The real world significance of it is that we have to remain humble. The current calculations of the size of the universe may be way off, as they are based on assumptions and not direct measurement. It is poetically ironic that those that try to claim that the word of God is allegory, myth or poetic rely only on their imaginations of what the data mean and not what direct observation tells us. Theistic evolutionists, by allowing the scientists falsely so called to claim the truth when what they say is not proven true, are playing double agents. Much like Judas played the double agent by presenting Christ to the High Priest.
I do not believe Judas thought Jesus would be beaten and executed, else why would he have remorse at the sight of Christ’s passion? He probably thought that he could force Christ’s hand by getting Him to talk with the High Priests, scribes and Pharisees, Jesus would show them He is God and get them to convert. We know that is not what happened and Judas went into perdition for his unbelief.
The delusion is strong as we are taught it from our youth up, so I don’t blame you for believing it; however, once it is shown to be delusion and imaginations of men, we cannot continue in the charade any longer. The world must be called to repent.
You don’t have to believe in a young Earth, stationary Earth and small universe, even though it is more consistent with the data, to say you believe in God, but you must point out the shortcomings and inconsistencies of modern science falsely so called and not allow it to be preach as eternal dogma. That, your immortal soul does depend on. Humility is the primary virtue of a Christian, and even the wisest of worldly men say the beginning of knowledge is to admit what we don’t know. Would you raise your hand to God, as Judas did? Think about it.
Just as you do not have to believe that the Earth is young and stationary, neither do I or ANY Christian need believe it is old and spinning, as that can’t be observed. It is your choice to humble yourself as did Job, when God asked, “were you there when I laid the foundations of the Earth, tell me if you have understanding” or you can rise up like Cain or play both sides as neither hot nor cold as did Judas.
The evidence for the modern scientific materialism is lacking and believing it is not required to make a decent living. I do alright in the top 1% of earners in the world. Evolution and cosmology has no effect on my income, but God would not look kindly on me if I did not admit the truth and just went along to get along. No, modern “science” is based on inference and the imaginations of men, not real data.
Thankfully physicists and biologist are waking up to this fact and recognize an intelligence in the universe. It is more difficult to talk with a theistic evolutionist than any of them. Go to Discovery institute for science and culture and see for yourself. They are starting to see that the narrative is false and reinvestigate the data, but theistic evolutionists would discourage them. Thankfully they see through the lie and we are on the precipice of a huge paradigm shift in science
