Honest Question for Christian Preppers

I look at prepping like this:

If I were to follow the Bible to the absolute letter, I could have buried my ex-wives up to their neck and thrown rocks at their heads until they died for their "crime" against me. I'm one of those "naughty" Christians who tends to think for myself without consulting God every time I want to blink my eyes.

I hear people all the time who seem to think that when it all falls apart we will just go back to life on The Waltons or Little House on the Praire....folks just a barterin and a tradin and a plantin,heck we might even have a barn raisin .....no connection with reality.

That'll happen here, because it is already that way here. I barter whenever I can, And I have been to something close to 10 barn raisings in my life, and probably hundreds of sheds and chicken coops. Folks jut help each other.

Like so many others on this thread, I am a prepper in the normal country sense. My fathers house, by way of my mother, always had years worth of canned goods laid up. We always had an elk or a cow in the freezer, along with a few white tails. Jerked meat, dried fish, smoked venison... all just part of living.

I just can't understand otherwise... I would think that folks that do not lay up stores for a rainy day are without a lick of sense. Hard times do come. Count on it.

Like I was raised, I too have plenty of food around.I tore up my knee a while back, and was laid up for over 6 months, and couldn't really walk for better than a year. I lived on nearly nothing for a year and a half, buying only fresh veggies and junk food - The rest was already in the house, or ongoing from our ranch.

Since then, with a bumper harvest from our gardens, most of that food is right back in place. My stores are probably 3/4 full. and that's with a fairly hard winter going on. The wood pile is back up over 4 cord (needs 6), and there's two turkeys, several chinks and grouse, several chickens, two white tails, a quarter elk and half a cow in the freezers. Still way low on fish, but that's because I haven't been able to go.

Yeah, I can. Not everyone can, but I surely can. The mountains start a quarter mile from my house, and hillbilly country is half a day's walk. Been trading with those folks all my life, and money never ever changes hands.

I have electricity, but I don't need it. tallow lamps and candles have provided me light plenty of times. I have gas heat, but hardly use it, preferring the wood stove. I have a truck, but horses will do. I grow my own food, I hunt and fish, so while the grocery is convenient, it isn't necessary.
If SHTF I could get by. Not in style yet, like those hillbillies (who wouldn't even notice), but definitely doable.

Or perhaps one should ask you what you think is so insurmountable?

So if soldiers showed up and declared your property and resources to now be property of the government you just tell them to go pound sand,there is no such place as no where anymore,every square inch of America is under satellite surveilence,no place to run and no place to hide

Shoot, I'd be looong gone long before the soldier ever showed up. And they'll have plenty more to worry about than a few old trappers so far back in the sticks as to be no imminent threat. They'd play hell just taking down the Appalachians (I don't think they can), just to run into the swamps, and then the deserts... I'll see them coming a long, long time before they ever get to the Rockies.

And then, well, the Rockies. Huge land mass, all on end. I have thousands, maybe millions of square miles of international forest to hide in... High Mountain Tiaga forest, that is... No where near the same as knocking a few ill equipped ragheads out of barren desert hills.

Did mention there are more guns per square foot right here than anywhere in the world? Operated by folks that have been using them their whole life long?

Nah. They gotta come do it, no matter what they can see. And me and mine would be dug in like a tick on a coon dog. You can bet money on that. There'd be hell to pay, for little in return. It's the cities that are the easy money, and that's where they'll be.

Well, I don't know the America you live in - My whole life has been about falling down and getting back up. That is the American thing... the getting back up.

p.s. we have a couple of months of tinned foods with long expiry dates along with dried foods and water. You never know what the future may hold.

Its good that you can be independent instead of hoping the help from others in difficult times, spare some for me.
