  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Ya know, I just tried to watch the latest episode of Supernatural, because I wanted to see if it would take on a Christian ethos, but my "spiritual alarm bells" went beserk

I really, really believe bad stuff attaches itself to shows like that.
many spiritual warfare folks would agree with that.

Yep, and I do too. I don't judge people for watching it, but I just see so much evil in it that I can't even imagine it being good (or even benign) for anyone. I still have a very hard time with the fact that my little nephew had a part in one of the episodes. It's hard for me because I like to see him in his acting roles. But that show, and that episode... it's just so evil. I hate that he was involved with that. I've only read the description of the episode and I can't imagine wanting to ever see that. Really demonic stuff. He had fun shooting it, but fortunately he's far too young to understand what was going on. I'm glad it was just one part and that he's not likely going to ever be on it again. And I'm glad that he doesn't care to see himself in the final product after it's completed. I can't imagine parents letting their kids watch that stuff!

I've never heard of or watched Supernatural and I know absolutely nothing about it. (a first for me where horror is involved) heh.

But from the sounds of you guys I'm glad I don't watch it.
There's a move that I LOVED that I won't tape called Stay Alive.
Scary flick based on an underground computer game where the evil character is actually alive in the spirit realms & she kills all the people playing the game in real life.
Freaky.
Very well done & plotted... but it's got too much demonic in it so I'm not comfy watching alot of it & I turn it on & off. I wish I didn't love that stuff - my entire family has no draw to it, but I always have.

I wonder why that is?

I think I remember seeing ads for that movie. It did sound interesting, but just not something I could go for.

You know I love a good mystery thriller type of movie (prolly part of why I love sci-fi :)). Something that keeps you on the edge of your seat and feels like a roller coaster ride. I think that might be the draw sometimes. The excitement. Throw some good writing into the mix, and you've got some fantastic entertainment. That brings the movie "The Sixth Sense" to mind. I really enjoyed that, believe it or not. Theologically it was pretty off base. But it was a great story. None the less it did delve into some questionable things. That's about as far into the horror genre I can delve, personally. And I recognize that some can go farther and still be quite comfortable.

Bottom line though, I think it's good to know where to draw those lines, and to be willing to re-draw them as we are convicted to do so, regardless of whether it makes us look like "fuddy-duddies" or not.

That scene creeped me out in the PREVIEWS! I can't watch slash 'em movies like that.

I got the willies already and it's not even 8am yet!!

The cool thing about that movie is that it wasn't your typical slasher horror movie. The premise was pretty original. Take a group of kids, stick 'em in the woods and give 'em a flesh eating virus to deal with. There was nothing demonic or other-worldly in this horror movie like there was in the Halloween or Friday the 13th or Hellraiser movies.

Okay, but that movie is based upon an actual person. Countess Elizabeth Bathory who lived, I believe in the 1300's. She is said to have killed hundreds, if not thousands of young girls, because she believed that bathing in their blood would keep her forever young. Another movie that uses elements from real life in its plot line is Turbulence 3: Heavy Metal. The basic plot line of that movie is that death metal artist Slade Craven is going to give his final concert aboard an airplane for his fans, but the plane is hijacked by Satanists who want to crash it into a church in Stull, Kansas that is supposedly built over one of the gateways to hell. The church is a real place and has burned down a few times. Hometown Tales did an episode on this legend, which is how I first heard about it. When I saw the tale appear in a movie, I sent them a copy of both the movie and a copy of a book I no longer needed. The Satanic Bible by Anton LaVey.

I had no idea Stay Alive was about a real Countess! I thought that was made up for the movie.
WOW.
I haven't heard of the other 2 movies - unless Heavy Metal is that cartoon movie? (thought that was a musical?)

Well then you need to listen to the Hometown Tales podcast and be informed. www.hometowntales.com

There is a movie called Heavy Metal that is an animated movie, that was inspired by Heavy Metal magazine. There was a sequel to this too in the 90's. This Heavy Metal movie though is the second sequel to the Ray Liotta movie Turbulence. Although at this point in time Ray Liotta has been replaced by Rutger Hauer. LOL

Here's a video podcast they did about the lion "Leo" from MGM fame.

Here's the video podcast about Stull, Kansas.
