  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Long have the time of Hindu's being gullable watching the hollow statue of Christ float in water and convert. This is one example of tactics Christians use to convert Hindu's in India.[/IMG]

How is this diffrent than the tricks hindu gurus pull?
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dt3US50patw

Besides, I've never heard of anything like that before. So I doubt it exists. There seems to be a complete lack of reliable sources when it comes to the accusations against missionaries.

And anyway, my view is that no matter how rediculous the claim is, if the people claiming it believe it too, then it's not trickery.

The Christian missionary mindset is generally depicted as that of simple religious folk with a pure desire to peacefully spread their gospel and message of love. In reality, their methods of propagation are often anything but peaceful and usually leave behind a native population stripped of their culture and often decimated.

The face of Christian terrorists.

The band wagon you are joining Evange is anything but noble. Don't expect any hospitality from the average Indian.

again, reliable evidence. Someone alledged that teh missionaries did this or did that. But no one investigated it. I dont believe it.

Perhaps those people who were denied aid were refused ebcause they didnt need it? or because there wasnt enough to go arround? But to me it sounds that those recieving the aid just didnt like that christian literature or a message was included in the aid packages, and interpreted that as bribery/forced conversion. Or perhaps it's complete nonsense.

Christians forcefully taking over an Indian town.

I've seen that video before, and I think it is BS. For starters it's just some joe's claim. Its factuality cannot be verified. Also, the complaint seems to be about land/housing, and teh scapegoat is just teh christians. Of all the squaters in india, the only time anyone make san issue out of it is when they;re christian.

And while we're posting videos why dont you look at this:

This is done through a valid news network. I doubt it's fake.
Anyways here are the legal documents: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u5v0IGoa10k

As you should very well know, since you are going to India to proselytize. You need a license to distribute literature on the streets.
That is why I tried to warn you before... You do not own India. You do not have the privilege to spread and propagate your religion while ridiculing others. This applies for Hindu's also.

A surge of attacks on Christians in India
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2JHx3_4Dddg
Do you know there are Christian groups in India demanding separation of state and hold normal Indian citizens at gunpoint? The entire region of tripura is controlled by Christian Rebels funded by the Southern Baptist Church. Do you think this is BS also?

I think the video evidence for this is quite a bit more damning.
India suffered 200 years of colonialism. I doubt a mob pushing the person back and forth is equivalent to enslaving 300 million Indians because they were heathens and needed to be civilized...

Do you know that the cross is the only religious symbol to be ever on Indian currency? Don't complain about Christians being persecuted in India... Sonia Gandhi the head of the Congress Government is a Christian... The cheif ministers of Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, and many other states are also Christian... Please... I am tired of this hypocrisy. You turn a blight eye to Christian terrorism in Tripura, but you advocate that a [bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse]ed off mob roughing up a man illegally passing around literature without license.

Results of Christian terrorism...

For the 45,012 time, your BELIEF is NOT FACT! Who are you to say who is going to hell? Who says Indians are in the dark? LOL!

As much as no one can know for sure if my belief is a fact, no one can know for sure if it is not a fact. Who are you to say that hindus aren't going to hell? Again, all evangelism is is a spread of information. At least give people the ability to choose what they find true.

If you knew me, you would know the last thing I am is racialist. Dont pull that card on me. Doesn't work. I never said other cultures are stupid; dont project that onto me. I said you should RESPECT other cultures, Evange. Other ideas, me [wash my mouth][wash my mouth][wash my mouth][wash my mouth]; you wish to sell your religion to new potential customers.

No. You should never tolerate something that is deficient. Would you tolerate hunger, poverty, illiteracy or tyrany? You do your best to change things. Ignoring these things because they're far away or a part of another culture *IS* racist.

I repeat, you should not go to India or any other place with this attitude! You must think Indians are stupid if you think they wont pick up on your attitude. You should look in the mirror and really take a look at yourself and your motives.

You're right, the best attitude for a missionary to have is that all other belief systems are equally valid.

I'm beginning to think you posted this to get a rise out of some people. I sincerely hope you're not this arrogant and unaware of things. For your own sake, I truly hope not, because if you are you're heading for a rude awakening. Dont say you weren't warned.

Yeah, I've tried sugar coating before. It's a waste of time. I'd rather be honest.

Sonia Gandhi an Italian Citizen who has the freedoms to achieve the leader of Congress has the opacity to put the Christian Cross on Indian currency, yet you don't see mobs going after her....???

2805sun2.jpg

Please see the Cross on the above coin on the left. There are four dots in all in the above coin, two on either side of the vertical line of the Cross. During the days of the Crusades and the Byzantine Empire, they were known as Besant or Besants. The four small dots (later small crosses) are symbolic of the four Gospels proclaimed to the four corners of the earth, beginning in Jerusalem; the large cross symbolizes the person of Christ. (http://christianity.about.com/cs/artgallery/p/jerusalemcross.htm) Four canonical gospels are attributed to the Four Evangelists: (Gospel of Matthew, Gospel of Mark, Gospel of Luke and Gospel of John). 'Go into the whole world and proclaim the Gospel to every creature. He who believes and is baptised will be saved; he who does not believe will be condemned' (Mk 16:15-16). The Gospel of Mark is cited as the doctrine for Dominus Jesus initiated by Ratzinger, the present Pope in the Vatican.

Anyways Evange India represent Secularism to it's core. Don't go and ruin that for us...

k7528.gif

Hinduism and Secularism
Hinduism the religion of the majority in India is a faith which on the whole is favourable to the development of the secular state in India. The Hindu view of history is that ultimately it is pre-ordained, thus a Hindu is generally fatalistlc. Secondly, the material reality is also looked upon as sn illusion. Jagat Mithyaa Brahmam Satya which roughly means ("The world is an Illusion, The Ultimate Truth lies beyond it")sums up the orthodox Hindu attitude towards the real world. This kind of a fatalistic attitude towards history and the material reality made the appearance of an aggressive theocratic tendency very difficult.
Hinduism also has a strong tradition of freedom of conscience and tolerance of religious diversity. Religious liberty for the Hindu is not based on political expediency but on the conviction of the ultimate oneness of the religious quest, howsoever varied the numerous paths which might be followed towards salvation.
Further, Hinduism also lacks ecclesiastical organisation and centralised authority which would be essential for any kind of theocratic challenge to a secular or for that matter a hostile theocratic state supporting some other religion. This explains the absence of a unified challenge of the Hindu community when it was tyrannized for nearly 750 years by the various Mohammedan dynasties whose administration was run on theocratic Islamic lines except in the reigns of Akbar and to an extent Jehangir.

Conversion Tactics
Deception, Lies & Deceit
tactics_deception_missionary.jpg

Missionaries often use devious tactics to decieve
innocent villagers in order to convert them.
Christian Missionaries on one hand preach high moral values, yet at the same time, they follow the lowest most despicable ones in order to convert people to their religion. Missionaries especially prey on the poorest, most rural folk under the guise of helping them out of poverty when in fact they have chosen to convert them because they are the most uneducated and therefore most likely to fall for their deception.
1. Fake Medicines – One common tactic employed by Missionaries is to give a sick villager fake medicines which have no medicinal value and ask them to worship in the name of their faith for wellness. After several days, the missionary gives the villager an identical dose of the medicine, but this time it is the real medicine. Then the missionary will instruct the villager to now pray to Jesus. Soon after, due to the medicine and not due to Jesus, the villager will be cured. The uneducated and gullible villager, however, will attribute his cure to Jesus and convert to Christianity.
2. Floating Idols – In rural villages in India, Missionaries and place a stone or metal idol of a Hindu Deity in bring a bucket of water. The statue will sink in the bucket. Next the Missionary bring a wax-coated idol of Jesus or Virgin Mary (though Christianity prohibits idols) and places that in the bucket. Due the wax-coat, the Christian idol will float. The Missionary will then conclude that because the Christian idol floated, it is “higher” and, therefore, better than the Hindu one. The uneducated villager, not knowing anything about buoyancy or density, falls for the Missionary’s ridiculous explanation and converts to Christianity.
3. Fraudulent Saints – Often Missionaries will disguise themselves as religious leaders of the local religion and subtly attempt to convert the locals.

The classic example was that of Robert de Nobili, a Jesuit from France, who came to India in the early 17th century. He adopted the saffron robe, started to live in a hut, squatted on the floor for conducting his discourses, became a vegetarian and gave up liquor, projected that he was a Brahmin saint from Rome and that the Bible was one of the lost Vedas (Hindu holy scriptures), and generally tried to pass himself as another Hindu sanyasi (saint). He was successful, and many Hindus came to him for spiritual reasons of which many he converted.
Though Nobili used this tactic centuries ago, this deceitful and treacherous method is still in use by Missionaries even today.
4. Blasphemy & Impurity – Another tactic used my Christian is to somehow make the victim impure to their religion in some way. Then the Missionary will convince the victim that they can no longer practice their old faith due to their blasphemy, and therefore they must accept Christianity.

The most infamous incident is known as the “Sepoy Rebellion”. In 1857, British General Lord Canning gave orders for the British to mix crushed cow and pig bones into the salt, butter and sugar rations of his Indian troops. In addition the British greased Enfield rifle cartridges with cow and pig fat. After some time, it was discovered by the troops that the rations they had consumed and the mouth-loaded cartridges had been contaminated with animal fats. This led many devout Hindu and Muslim to believe they were no longer pious members of their respective religions and so many were forced to convert. This outrage led to a massive war-like rebellion by the Hindu and Muslim troops which was eventually quelled by British.
By making one impure to their religion, shows the paramount of hatred and disrespect that Christian Missionaries have for all other religions.

5. Guilt & Accusations – In 1975, Christian Missionaries were unsuccessful in converting the Panare Native Americans of the Colorado Valley. The missionaries had converted the Bible to their native language, but the peaceful and simple tribe could not understand the concepts of sin, guilt, war and plagues. So instead, the missionaries changed the Bible so that instead of the Romans and others, the Panare were responsible for the death of Jesus. One excerpt read:
”The Panare killed Jesus Christ, because they were wicked. Let's kill Jesus Christ, said the Panare. The Panare seized Jesus Christ. The Panare killed in this way. The laid a cross on the ground. They fastened his hands and his feet against the wooden beams, with nails. They raised him straight up, nailed. The man died like that, nailed. Thus the Panare killed Jesus Christ…

God will burn you all, burn all the animals, burn also the earth, the heavens, absolutely everything. He will burn also the Panare themselves. God will exterminate the Panare by throwing them on the fire. It is a huge fire. I am going to hurl the Panare into the fire, said God.”
And the simplistic Panare tribe immediately claimed they loved Jesus, fearing they would be burnt by God. Missionaries seem to go to any extent to convert others, even if it requires gross deception and misrepresentation of their own holy book, the Bible will for the benefit of “winning souls”.

6. False Identities – To convert a more educated and pious individual, a Missionary will pretend that he/she has a religious background that is the same as yours.
For example, a Missionary who is targeting a Hindu may tell the Hindu that he (or a Christian friend or acquaintance) was once an orthodox Hindu, or that he had a solid Hindu education, a traditional Hindu family life, etc. This is almost always an outright lie so that you will open up to him. The hidden message that he is attempting to convey is that he came to believe in Jesus after knowing and overcoming all of the Hindu objections, and therefore, the Hindu he is targeting should also try to follow the same path, (which he never really took).

Usually, all that is necessary to expose this type of hoax is to ask him about various small details of Hindu life that any observant Hindu child would know, and see how he responds. In almost all cases, he will begin to hedge about the extent of his "background" and "Hindu knowledge". Unfortunately, most Hindu or targets of other religions are themselves not knowledgeable enough to be able to expose this type of deception and quite often Missionaries are successful.
7. Secret Baptism – Another tactic that is deceptively employed by Missionaries is to “baptize” a victim without their knowledge. Then to reveal that they had been baptized and they must convert to Christianity. Though well-documented, it is little known that the most famous perpetrator was Mother Teresa and her sisters.

“For Mother (Teresa), it was the spiritual well-being of the poor that mattered most. Material aid was a means of reaching their souls, of showing the poor that God loved them. In the homes for the dying, Mother taught the sisters how to secretly baptize those who were dying. Sisters were to ask each person in danger of death if he wanted a ‘ticket to heaven’. An affirmative reply was to mean consent to baptism. The sister was then to pretend she was just cooling the person’s forehead with a wet cloth, while in fact she was baptizing him, saying quietly the necessary words. Secrecy was important so that it would not come to be known that Mother Teresa’s sisters were baptizing Hindus and Moslems.”
7. Miracles – One of the most despicable ways of deception is how Missionaries pray on young rural school children. The school bus will stop suddenly. Young kids are told that they must pray 'Krishna' to try and restart it, but it fails to do so. Then they try 'Rama', then 'Guru Nanak', then 'Allah' etc. Finally, after exhausting the common names in India for spiritual authority, they are asked to say 'Jesus' all together, and at that time the bus suddenly starts. Everyone applauds the demonstration of Jesus' love and power.
8. Miracle Boxes – Missionaries will place "Miracle boxes" are put in local churches: The gullible villager writes out a request - a loan, a pucca house, fees for the son's schooling. A few weeks later, the miracle happens, paid for by Western Christian donations. And the whole family converts believing it is a miracle of Jesus, making others in the village follow suit.

The Telegraph, Calcutta, Agartala, May 16, 2005[/FONT]
[FONT=Arial, Helvetica][Though we do not collect these reports like listed below, this shows that such killings still continue on a regular basis.]
A local tribal CPM leader was clubbed to death in Tripura’s Sadar (north) by militants belonging to the Biswamohan faction of the National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT) yesterday. Police said Kishore Debbarma, secretary of a CPM local committee had gone to attend a party program at Shanitola yesterday.
After the meeting, Debbarma, accompanied by a few other tribal cadre of the CPM, was having tea at a stall in a market around 5 pm when he was dragged away at gunpoint by a group of NLFT militants. The party leaders and workers were unable to resist the rebels but immediately informed Sidhai police. Within a short while the police and TSR jawans reached Shanitala and launched combing operations.
Around 11pm, Debbarma’s body with multiple head injuries was found at a roadside ditch in the Katabon area. The police said he had been clubbed to death by the militants. Senior CPM leader and the party’s secretariat member, Gautam Das, condemned the killing and held the INPT-NLFT combine responsible for the incident. “The NLFT carried out the killing but it had acted at the behest of the INPT,” Das said. http://www.telegraphindia.com/1050517/asp/northeast/story_4747409.asp

This is done through a valid news network. I doubt it's fake.

It's not the network that makes an interview valid or not, it's the interviewee.

Besides, even reuters, the biggest news agency in teh world, has fallen victim to fake news.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2006_Israel-Lebanon_conflict_photographs_controversies

Yup, and then the protestors beat up the hindu priest.

As you should very well know, since you are going to India to prostelyze. You need a license to distribute literature on the streets.

So no licence = getting beat down by a mob?

That is why I tried to warn you before... You do not own India. You do not have the privilege to spread and propagate your religion while ridiculing other's. This applies for Hindu's also.

And you dont own india either. Nor do the 80% hindus. India belongs to all indians. So therefore, this indian preacher should have a right to free thought, and a right to expect fair punishment for his aledged crime.

Do you know there are Christian groups in India demanding separation of state and hold normal Indian citizens at gunpoint? The entire region of tripura is controlled by Christian Rebels funded by the Southern Baptist Church. Do you think this is BS also?

tripura was not historically part of india, it was its own independant country. I'd be willing to bet that even if that area was hindu, they'd still want independance.

Just a thought, but perhaps christianity is so popular in teh north east because the people tehre feel disenfranchised by the hindu-majority india?

And funded by teh baptists. Give me a break. Just because the people tehre are baptist does not mean that the church is paying teh rebels.

India suffered 200 years of colonialism. I doubt a mob pushing the person back and forth is equivalent to enslaving 300 million Indians because they were heathens and needed to be civilized...

What does colonialism have to do with anything? The preacher getting pushed arround there is indian.

Do you know that the cross is the only religious symbol to be ever on Indian currency? Don't complain about Christians... Please... I am tired of this hypocrisy. You turn a blight eye to Christian terrorism in Tripura, but you advocate that a [bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse][bless and do not curse]ed off mob roughing up a man illegally passing around literature without license.

Actually, I have heard about teh coin thing, but I dont know the history or reason behind that symbol being chosen. But I'll agree, fine there should not be a cross on the coins. But shouldent you take that up with teh indian government, not with christians? Afterall, I'm pretty sure most christians in india (a) do not wield enough political power to get their symbol on a coin and then block all other religions from doing teh same, and (b) dont care.

That preacher getting beat up is completely unrelated to rebels in Tripura, and thus cannot be justified. Besides, two wrongs dont make a right.

He does have a right to free though and he did get a fair trial. It's his fault that he picked the wrong spot to commit his crime. Would you stop a guy stealing a lady's purse? This is the same deal. They stopped him and called the cops. You can see he was taken into custody at the end of the video.

You are right. Texas also wasn't part of the USA. Infact anything west of the Louisiana purchase wasn't. So does that give me the right to start a terrorist organization and ban Hindu festivals at gunpoint?

Atleast I know you are dumb enough to support terrorism if it's in the name of "Christ". You are no different from the jihadi extremists.

Just a thought, but perhaps christianity is so popular in teh north east because the people tehre feel disenfranchised by the hindu-majority india?
Perhaps you should have a thought. You said yourself India belongs to ALL INDIANS. Why double standards when Christians are in the majority?
And funded by teh baptists. Give me a break. Just because the people tehre are baptist does not mean that the church is paying teh rebels.
The churches are directly funded by the Southern Baptist churches and many preachers have been arrested for handing out NLFT pamphlets and storing arms.

What does colonialism have to do with anything? The preacher getting pushed arround there is indian.

Most churches in India were founded during Colonial times on violence and forced conversion. They still follow the cheap tactics today.

You are wrong again. The leader of the Congress Party is Sonia Gandhi and she is a Christian. Infact she isn't even a Indian citizen. She is Italian... She was voted in as Prime Minister but chose to give the seat to Manmohan Singh. There are 6 Cheif Ministers (same thing as a Governer in the US) who control 6 out of 24 Indian states.

That preacher getting beat up is completely unrelated to rebels in Tripura, and thus cannot be justified. Besides, two wrongs dont make a right.

If I drive into a neighborhood somewhere in the deep southern states of the USA and start preaching your religion is false and mine is true. And handing out Hindu pamphlets, I would get shot. At least this guy is still alive, so he can break the law again.

Armed conflict in Tripura has been a problem since the end of the 1970s as an aftermath of 1971 Indo-Pak war. Mass migration of Bengalis from Bangladesh during this time has resulted in wide-spread insurgency and militancy in the state with groups such as the Tripura National Volunteers, the National Liberation Front of Tripura and the All Tripura Tiger Force aiming to drive away the Bengali people.

The Baptist Church of Tripura was initially set up by missionaries from New Zealand in the 1940s. Until the 1980s, only a few thousand people in Tripura had converted to Christianity. In the aftermath of ethnic riots in the 1980s, the number of conversions grew

It's not a religious conflict, it's an ethnic one.

I rest my case.

If they were ethnic. Why would they ban Hindu festivals? Use your common sense here. You just can't accept the fact that there are Christian terrorists.

Formed on March 12 1989[1], the National Liberation Front of Tripura (NLFT)is an Indian militant group demanding in order to create an independent state of Tripura.
It has conducted a violent campaign, and was declared an illegal organization under the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act in 1997. Five years later, it was declared a terrorist organisation under the newly-coined Prevention of Terrorism Act.[2]

History, funding, and church support

The Baptist Church of Tripura was initially set up by missionaries from New Zealand in the 1940s. Until the 1980s, only a few thousand people in Tripura had converted to Christianity. In the aftermath of ethnic riots in the 1980s, the number of conversions grew[3].
The NLFT was born in 1989, allegedly with the help of the Baptist Church. Since then, the NLFT has been advancing its cause through armed rebellion.
In April 2000, then Chief Minister Manik Sarkar of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) was reported as saying that state police had evidence that the Baptist Church was involved in backing separatist rebels, and had uncovered details of the alleged link after questioning a senior church leader, who had been arrested with a large quantity of explosives.[4]

The Tripura Baptist Christian Union is the largest protestant church body in the Indian state of Tripura. It has its head office in Agartala, the state capital.

The Government of Tripura uncovered evidence asserting that the Baptist Church in Tripura has been helping the Tripuri militants, such as the NLFT in the state. The NLFT militants, who are fighting to regain the independence of Tripura, have been reported to be forcing some local tribals to convert to Christianity at gunpoint and turning them against the Bengali Hindus in the state [4].

The Left-Front Government have accused the Baptist Church of Tripura of supporting this violent campaign of NLFT by providing funding and arms for the group after an incident in April of 2000,when Nagmanlal Halam, secretary of the Noapara Baptist Church in Tripura, was caught with 50 gelatine sticks, 5 kilograms of potassium and 2 kilograms of sulphur and other ingredients for making explosives to the group. Halam later confessed to buying and supplying explosives to the NLFT for the past two years.
In another incident in August 2003, police arrested the secretary of a Baptist Christian Missionary church in North Tripura District who was in possession of five kg of potassium, one kg sulphur, few gelatin sticks and 45 gm of high explosive materials [5].

k, so next time you're double parked, I'm gonna tourch your car.

Getting beat up in the street is not a fair trial. Handing out fliers does not imediatly threaten anyone. If you see an old ladies purse getting stolen do you shoot the robber?

It's not a proportionate response. Something like handing out a flier without a licence is a civil matter, not a criminal one. Therefore there wasnt really even a need to arrest him, a citation should have sufficed.

You are right. Texas also wasn't part of the USA. Infact anything west of the Louisiana purchase wasn't. So does that give me the right to start a terrorist organization and ban Hindu festivals at gunpoint?

If you're a native american, yes.

Atleast I know you are dumb enough to support terrorism if it's in the name of "Christ". You are no different from the jihadi extremists.

It's not in the name of christ. It's not in teh name of any religion. It has nothing to do with religion, any religion. It's an ethnic conflict, and most of the christain conversions in the region came after the violence, because they were feeling disenfranchised.

Perhaps you should have a thought. You said yourself India belongs to ALL INDIANS. Why double standards when Christians are in the majority?

yeah, again, remember what I said about credible evidence? And alegation is not proof.

you may find this hard to believe, but church leaders dont have secret meetings on how to take over the world. Any baptist I know would be very upset to learn that their money was misused in such a way.

Most churches in India were founded during Colonial times on violence and forced conversion. They still follow the cheap tactics today.

This is laughable! There is no such thing as a forced conversion in christainity. And there is no proof that it is hapening today.

She was voted in as Prime Minister but chose to give the seat to Manmohan Singh. There are 6 Cheif Ministers (same thing as a Governer in the US) who control 6 out of 24 Indian states.

And how long ago was the coin brought in? If it's a new thing, perhaps tehre are more religious coins to come? if it's an old thing, then she is not responsible.

If you dont like her politics, dont vote for her.

He did not get beat up... He was not leaving the bus stop... The police were trying to take him into custody the whole time.

Looks to me litke he's getting the beat down

They are yelling go away. We don't want you here. This is public property. Infact I perfectly understand what they are saying, since I am telugu also.

They are yelling Hail India! Hail Secularism! Protect Privacy of religion!

Yeah, protect religion when it is my religion, but who gives a [wash my mouth][wash my mouth][wash my mouth][wash my mouth] about others?

I am regretting my politeness in my first post, as it obviously was not deserved.

If this is the voice of Christianity, then I would not be surprised at any hostility they may encounter. This is the very reason I left Christianity (and organized religion, but that's a different matter). Are these truly people enlightened by God? These are the words of someone who has a relationship with God?

I think you need to take a moment alone, and contemplate what you have said. It sounds childish, but it is the proper reaction to such a choice of words.

Perhaps start with the thought of whether you truly have a spiritual presence in your life if it incites these thoughts within you. Is it truly satisfying to live with hatred towards anyone who chooses a belief other than your own?

I feel almost sad saying this, but I can almost picture the stories of the evangelicals going to Africa then murdering the tribes who wouldn't convert. They probably had this exact same attitude. "I wish to convert them. Otherwise I despise them and have only contempt for them".

Needless to say, I regret reading this post early in the morning, as the unpleasant thoughts I have received here will probably stick with me throughout the day.

EDIT: I have one more thing to say, a general statement to make towards anyone of any religion who considers a need to "save these pour souls". You are no more superior than anyone else on this planet. There is absolutely nothing which elevates you above anyone else, no matter how much you wish it so. Whatever deluded sense of self-importance you have is nothing more than the equivalent of what the racists used to consider themselves superior, or what the sexists used to elevate themselves above women.

wow, people really go bazerk when they hear the word hell. I think you over reacted a bit, and what I intended was more like "the path to hell is paved with good intentions"

Yes, I believe my belief system to be better than all others. And I dont think there is anything wrong with that. What would be wrong would be if I believed my belief to be supirior, yet did not make it avalible to all people.

As much as I cant prove that christianity is the one true religion, you cant prove that it isnt. It's a matter of faith. All missionaries do is give people a choice of what they want to believe.
