The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.
If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.
If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

They use to tell us in A.A. to wait a couple of years on the cigarettes. Of course, that was 30yrs. ago and I still smoke. Good luck. And I agree: come to one or the other- smoke!!!I'm just about to have my last cigarette. And I mean my last. Hubby and I are quitting smoking and we have two cigs left...one a piece. I have a feeling this is going to be as hard as quitting drinking. Oy. I chose tonight to quit because tomorrow I'm having a procedure (harmless, just checking something) where they will put me under anesthesia for a couple of hours. I'm hoping that will help with the nicotine withdrawals.
I'll say this, though. If it comes down to drinking again or smoking again, I'll buy a pack of cigs.
Oy. I'm nervous and babbling.

Hey all. I had my last cigaret the Friday before Christmas (22 Dec?). figured I had 4 days off ove Christmas to not smoke, then 3 days at work to avoid smoking, then 4 days off again this new Year weekend (ends tonight) and back to work tomorrow for 3 days till the weekend.
So, as of right now I have 12 days with no smoking and am doin ok, so far... (kock on wood - well, knock on laminate sittin here at my computer desk).
if I can go the rest the week with no smoking then this coming weekend, I think I got it kicked.
Good to see all that have posted so far. It makes me happy.
Thanks for the encouragement, all. Just to let you know, the procedure went fine yesterday and my tummy has a clean bill of health.
So far so good with the smoking.![]()
Heyas all, happy you all made it through the holidays in one piece.
Good luck to those of you trying to quit smoking, better you than me. My backyard is too small to hide all the dead bodies that would be the result of me trying to quit.
I've been attending a whack of meetings over the last few weeks. We have had a glut of newcomers around here lately so been kept pretty busy working with some them. Also was praying for my computer time to be minimized and it appears that was answered.
Just about bedtime, so gnite people.

Computer time to be minimized?
The bubble bath sounds nicer anyway
Can someone help explain the 9th step to me? My mom tried to explain her view of it to me (without actually doing it) and it doesn't really jive with what I understand it to be.
Yeppers. The time I spend on it could be spent more fruitfully elsewhere. Not that I am looking for total abstinence but some balance. I had been neglecting meetings because I was more interested in surfing the net. The net thing doesnt do a lot for me spiritually whereas the meeting thing does.,
