• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL

I rang in the New Year at 9 p.m. with my husband. I was sound asleep by 9:30 p.m. Quite the exciting New Year Eve, eh???

I find I've been slipping back into old patterns. I'm a lil concerned.

Have a head cold and sinus infection...so my new year is starting out just 'peachy'

I'm just about to have my last cigarette. And I mean my last. Hubby and I are quitting smoking and we have two cigs left...one a piece. I have a feeling this is going to be as hard as quitting drinking. Oy. I chose tonight to quit because tomorrow I'm having a procedure (harmless, just checking something) where they will put me under anesthesia for a couple of hours. I'm hoping that will help with the nicotine withdrawals.

I'll say this, though. If it comes down to drinking again or smoking again, I'll buy a pack of cigs.

Oy. I'm nervous and babbling.

They use to tell us in A.A. to wait a couple of years on the cigarettes. Of course, that was 30yrs. ago and I still smoke. Good luck. And I agree: come to one or the other- smoke!!!

Hey all. I had my last cigaret the Friday before Christmas (22 Dec?). figured I had 4 days off ove Christmas to not smoke, then 3 days at work to avoid smoking, then 4 days off again this new Year weekend (ends tonight) and back to work tomorrow for 3 days till the weekend.

So, as of right now I have 12 days with no smoking and am doin ok, so far... (kock on wood - well, knock on laminate sittin here at my computer desk).

if I can go the rest the week with no smoking then this coming weekend, I think I got it kicked.

Good to see all that have posted so far. It makes me happy.

Thanks for the encouragement, all. Just to let you know, the procedure went fine yesterday and my tummy has a clean bill of health.

So far so good with the smoking. :)

 Hey Garnet...

Glad to hear it went/is going well on both accounts!

I should stop smoking...due to the fact that this cold/virus I have...makes me feel like I'm going to hack up a lung

Congrats all of you on the quitting smoking efforts, I hope they continue to go well. You'll be amazed at how much better food tastes once it's all out of your system. And you'll smell better too :p

Heyas all, happy you all made it through the holidays in one piece.
Good luck to those of you trying to quit smoking, better you than me. My backyard is too small to hide all the dead bodies that would be the result of me trying to quit.;)

I've been attending a whack of meetings over the last few weeks. We have had a glut of newcomers around here lately so been kept pretty busy working with some them. Also was praying for my computer time to be minimized and it appears that was answered.:)

Just about bedtime, so gnite people.

Yeppers. The time I spend on it could be spent more fruitfully elsewhere. Not that I am looking for total abstinence but some balance. I had been neglecting meetings because I was more interested in surfing the net. The net thing doesnt do a lot for me spiritually whereas the meeting thing does.:preach:,;)

The bubble bath sounds nicer anyway :p

Can someone help explain the 9th step to me? My mom tried to explain her view of it to me (without actually doing it) and it doesn't really jive with what I understand it to be.

Made direct amends to such people, except when to do so would injure them or others.

It's not complicated, just hard to face. Most of us would rather it were complicated. It requires that I not only admit the wrong, but actually "do something" to right the wrong, i.e., pay the money or whatever.

There is a great story in the A.A. lit. about a fellow who took money from a business associate and then spread the word that the man had cheated him out of the money. The man was discredited in the business world.

When it came time to make amends, the fellow went to the local Church and stood up and told the truth about what he had done.

Kind of separates the men from the boys, doesn't it?:amen:

I tend to listen better when things come from a :preach: . ;)

Balance...hmmmm One of the hundreds of things I must work on.
