• The General Mental Health Forum is now a Read Only Forum. As we had two large areas making it difficult for many to find, we decided to combine the Mental Health & the Recovery sections of the forum into Mental Health & Recovery as a whole. Physical Health still remains as it's own area within the entire Recovery area.

If you are having struggles, need support in a particular area that you aren't finding a specific recovery area forum, you may find the General Struggles forum a great place to post. Any any that is related to emotions, self-esteem, insomnia, anger, relationship dynamics due to mental health and recovery and other issues that don't fit better in another forum would be examples of topics that might go there.

If you have spiritual issues related to a mental health and recovery issue, please use the Recovery Related Spiritual Advice forum. This forum is designed to be like Christian Advice, only for recovery type of issues. Recovery being like a family in many ways, allows us to support one another together. May you be blessed today and each day.

I WANT a cigarette and I WANT a beer. NOW!!!!

Ok...now that little tantrum is over with....

Howdies. Instead of having a cig and a beer, I'm going to go take a hot bubble bath and go to bed.

Night y'all.

So did the bubble bath do the trick?

Do these cravings come often?

How is your hubby doing? You find going thru this together supportive or frustrating?

Bubble bath worked like a charm. I find that since I quit smoking that I crave alcohol more. Seems that every time I think about a smoke, I think about a beer. And I'm wanting a cig several times a day. But it's only been a few days. The cravings have lessened though.

Hubby has been awesome even though he quit smoking the same day and is dealing with his own cravings. I think it helps that both of us are going through similar things. I suspect that if I was doing this on my own, I would have started smoking again by now...but I don't want to disappoint him or be the one that fails.

Do you associate smoking with many things you do? Sometimes I feel like if there was a water proof cig, I would smoke in the shower too  I seem to smoke more now than when I was drinking

I commend both of you, Garnet! My husband doesn't smoke...and yet I just haven't taken that step. Nor do I want to at this time. Cut down, yes...although I seem to be an ALL or NOTHING kind of gal.

Well, I didn't start smoking until I started drinking in college. For the longest time, I only smoked when I drank. But over the years, my smoking increased to about a pack and a half a day. When I quit drinking, my smoking increased as well....to two packs a day. That's when I realized it was time to quit. There are so many things I associate with smoking...so many triggers...like finishing a meal, doing a chore, breaks at work, driving my car...

But, it IS getting easier although my rant didn't really sound like it. I found substituting things to work well with drinking, so I'm doing the same thing with smoking. I'm chewing quite a bit of gum and doing other things like bubble baths and walks when the craving gets strong. But, blast it, I can see that I'm starting to gain weight. I'm already heavy so I'm trying NOT to substitute food but I have noticed that hubby and I are both eating larger quantities and more often. Hopefully, this will diminish. If not, my next big bugaboo will be a diet. :swoon:

Thanks. :) I think the bottom line for me with smoking was the realization that I was (and am) a complete addict. It took a looooonnnnggg time for me to get myself to the point of quitting and to be honest, I'm still not sure if I'm going to make it. My biggest fear right now is this increased craving for alcohol. I'd been doing so well in that department that the unexpected return of cravings for beer has definitely thrown me off stride.

On the other hand, there are already some benefits. Hubby and I were spending around $150 a week on cigs. That's quite a chunk of change that I didn't spend this past weekend when I would normally buy smokes on Saturday. I'm not coughing as much. I smell better. My house is starting to smell better...though I've been doing a lot of cleaning...I didn't realize how many places the smell of cig smoke is caught...blech. My blood pressure is back in the normal range. My senses of taste and smell are improving.

Ah well, babbling again!!! LOL. But I hear ya, Prairie Gurl...I'm an all or nothing kinda person too.

My thought when clicking the icon was that I was preaching at myself but later realized later that you might take it that I was preaching at you. Sorry, wasn't the intention.:holy:

Howdy back Norm. Would of been nice if you would of stayed for a coffee :D

From someone else who has just been 'stoppin' by

PS
How is the non-smoking going with you?

Well, its been 18 days now without a smoke. doin ok I guess - the pile of daily bodies aint as high as the in first week :p ......

I think i got it kicked. at work where others do smoke, it can be tempting but I can handle it now I think.

My son's pre-trial hearing abnout his prison sentence is this Thurs, 11 Jan. please keep him in mind. My ex (#3 in a series, AKA my favorite ex), the one thats a christian, goes in for final kidney stone surgery stuff (outpatient) on the 11th also. Please keep Gigi in mind.

I do hope and trust that all here is doin ok, gettin thru the day if thats what it takes. You all are on my mind every day. I aint nobody - nothjing special but I do think of everyone here as someone special to me. I may not always be the friendliest sweetest kindest opennest type around but I really am compared to how I use to be. only a few years ago I could have cared less if you had a drinking problem. or drugs or anything actually. I may not say hi to everyone everyday here but it dont mean I aint got y'all's on my thought process.
