Hi everybody!

I was born Jew and at the past year I had started to find interest in Christianity. So I listened to some sermons and at the end I decided to join to Church. I joined to church 2 months ago. At some point my pastor leaded me to say the salvation prayer because I asked him and I have read the gospel of John and Matthew and gotten to Romans 9.

My questions are:

1. What is to born again?
2. Am I Christian now?

Thanks ya'll.

One is "born again" by the Holy Spirit only when they have received God's "...great salvation" in His beloved Son, and then they are "sealed" by the indwelling Spirit forever as a "child of God" (note John 14:23, and read the whole chapter to better understand). This all speaks of possessing the Lord Jesus --the Christ of God, into one's heart with devotion to Him. Church attendance, prayers, baptism, works, etc. is not salvation; but Christ is!
Look up always, and write me at PM anytime!

The so-called "salvation prayer" is just to make people think they are saved, when it actually takes more than that, such as love and obedience to Christ plus remorse and repentance from sins. Check out this link for actual truth on how to get saved.. remnantofgod.org/salvation.htm

I would strongly suggest to get an easy to read New Testament and sticking to that as you start to walk on your own.

Otherwise, you may make yourself available to many hucksters out there and traditions that are not rooted in the Truth (even while loudly claiming to be exactly just that in so many different ways).

Those answers are all there on this in the NT.

Yeah I read it with an easy to read version and English standard version.

May I call myself a Christian now?

What? I am not judging whether you are a Christian or not, simply pointing out you are bringing up stuff it sounds like someone is telling you and it is causing you confusion.

I think that is very clear... why are you acting as if I am doing otherwise?

Because it is not stuff one gets from reading the Bible.

It is interpretations, theories, add ons.

Depending on where you were raised, you may have picked some of this up in that culture.

John, you can call yourself Christian, believer, etc., but we are trying to tell you that true Christianity is in knowing and trusting the Lord Jesus as your personal Savior and lord of your life. If you are in communion with Him in thanksgiving for what He has done for you on the Cross, then you are Christian. Make the Lord Jesus your best Friend and Lord and be happy in walking with Him.

Keep reading and praying --again I say: read John 14 as a starter and have daily readings of all the New Testament. One can also read the Old Testament to understand God's ways and grace and covenant with Israel, which will help one see how that all pointed forward to His true sacrifice and blessings in Christ (the fulfillment of hope for Israel).

John, sometimes help means not to give a person a fish, but to teach them to fish.

I will ask again: how do you read salvation in the NT?

Hi. I quite don't understand your question . can u please ask it in a different way? Thanks.

How do you find the apostles and Jesus say is the way to be saved?

As you have read the New Testament... what is your take on what it is you must do?

I will help out here, do not get me wrong, but I want to know what **you** think.

Or what the Lord shows you about this...

Hi.

If you believe in Jesus Christ, this is the beginning of your journey & you may call yourself a Christian.

Your next step is baptism. Baptism is where you identify with Christ's death, burial, & resurrection - where you are marked as Christ's own forever. This is in a sense how we truly become Christians, as it marks our entry into the Christian community, the Church.

Some consider certain feelings or professions to be what it means to be "born again," but traditionally Christianity has taught that it is in our baptism that we are "born again." It helps to think of baptism as something God does for us.

Depending on which church you choose to attend, you may be required to go through classes of some sort before becoming a candidate for baptism.

Until then, worshipping & fellowshipping in a local church is a start for becoming familiar with Christian teaching & practice.

I attend a church that belongs to the Anglican Communion & there is a diocese in Israel that also belongs to the Communion, if you're interested: The Episcopal Diocese of Jerusalem

Hi John, the born again experience is receiving the Spirit, as detailed in the new testament - see Acts 2:4, 33; 10:44-46, compare with John 3:8, Galatians 4:6.
That is becoming a Christian - Romans 8:8-9.

The sinners prayer is a confession, teh apostles waited for God's independent witness of speaking in tongues a confession comes from your heart, well meaning but bearing witness of yourself. God says our hearts are deceitful above all things! (Jer. 17:9)
Jesus warns that many will come to him at the last day calling Him "Lord, Lord" but will be told "I never knew you". God wants relationship not religion. Relationship is 2 people ... you need to desire & expect God to do his thing!

The only time believers made confession was with getting baptised, but that doesn't mean you have received the Spirit - Acts 8:12-16, 19:1-6.

In Acts 19 note that even after being baptised unto Jesus Paul still knew they had not received the Spirit, that's why he prayed with them. So, making a confession / praying a prayer & getting baptised do not mean you have received the Spirit.

Hi! I don't think it's for me, because I like more the Baptist denomination.

I believe what I have read in the NT how to be saved, by trusting Jesus Christ as lord and also I believe he came to pay for our sins so we could live in the presence of God

That is good, John, so stay in communion with your Savior. There are no rituals or ceremonies to salvation, but true belief only. One is "born again" in God's own time when one receives the Savior (the Jew's Messiah) --the Lord Jesus. That new birth makes one a "new creation" in Christ, as God says; so live that new life in fellowship with the Lord.

Praying is important and is simply talking to God and His Son in a reverent and humble way with devotion. Baptism is not salvation, but an act in obedience to show one is standing for Christ against the unbelieving world. Look up always and rejoice in the Lord.

You are saved/born again and are a Christian.

Next you should read Romans chapter 5 and 6. It will show you who you are now positionally in being born again. It's a very important concept to get right, right away. Do not wait!
