Maybe it is the way that his powers react to Sylar's power? Or, he doesn't fully use her powers, for one reason or another?

I just started watching Heroes online today (nbc archives them. sweeeeet) and i'm hooked! i keep noticing things and i just love that feeling of foreshadowing. i can't wait to catch up
i probably won't drop in again for a while since there are WAY too many spoilers unprotected in here.... but i've now joined the club!

As you watch online, don't forget to read the Online Novels as well. They are short (6 or 8 pages) comics that add additional insight into the story, without giving anything away.

Oh my gosh.. yes! Some think that they give spoilers, but it's more like they are a continuance of the story line offscreen. And JAS4, take a look at this preview, if you haven't already seen it. It will blow your mind if you are keeping up with the novels...

Not sure about the other solider being Petrelli. After reading part 4 of war buddies, it doesn't seem likely. I do think, though, that he might be the one who winds up being behind (starting?) HRG's secret organization. Or, at the least, the guy HRG reports to.

If you look at the artwork in part 4.. Austin looks exactly like a young Malcolm McDowell, and Dallas looks just like Nathan (which obviously it can't be, cuz he is too young). Anyway, it seems to be the consensus of most people on the boards that it is Nathan's dad. If not.. it's ok.. just knowing the other part is cool! LOL Do you think that Dad Patrelli is really dead? I have my doubts.. he died too quick.. almost like he went into hiding or something. Just an idea....

I don't think we know how quickly he died. He was dead prior to the pilot episode, and had only been mentioned in passing. Unless I'm forgetting something (which is entirely possible).
If it is Petrelli Sr, it could also be that he is the one behind the organization HRG is involved with. In the comic, it seems like the two were going to wind up at odds. It could wind up that they were friends who are on opposite sides, sort of like Professor X and Magneto from X-Men.

Petrelli, Sr. is said to have killed himself. It is also said that he had been depressed, at least on and off, for years. It makes sense to me that the depression came, at least in part, from being stuck in the organization while being unhappy with the way it is run and the direction things were going. It also might raise the question if Petrelli, Sr. was killed for working against the organization and either made to look like a suicide or, Mrs. Petrelli thinking her husband was being stupid and as such killing him, either because he did something knowing they would kill him if they found out, or even intentionally getting the organization to kill him.
Also, if Petrelli, Sr. was a founder, did he get Nathan involved as well? We know that he did have some type of relationship with Linderman prior to running for Congress. OTOH, it's doubtful that HRG would have sent Claire to Mrs. Petrelli if Nathan was still a part of the organization and, in some ways, casts doubt on Petrelli, Sr. being a part of it. It does, however, explain Linderman's wanting Nathan in the White House.
We are also left with the question of what part Hiro's father plays in the organization and how he became involved. It seems, in some ways from what we know, odd that HRG was given Claire by Hiro's father rather than Linderman (if only because of geography). This seems even more odd from the episode in which Hiro's father let Hiro keep trying to save the world rather than force Hiro to come back to his company.
