  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

:help: I have a problem. My husband and I diagree on a few things, but one major thing is the t.v. He would gladly throw the t.v. out the door and shut off our satillite. I on the other hand enjoy watching t.v. and our daughter loves some of the shows on Disney and Nickelodeon. I don't allow her to watch questionable shows and I due monitor how much time she spends in front of the t.v. Does anyone else have this situtation? Any suggestions? (We go to a pentacostal church and our pastor and his wife do not have t.v. in their house, so to discuss this with them, I know were they stand)

He says that the only thing on most of the t.v. is trash. I guess to a point there is a lot of garbage on there, but there is a lot of good stuff to. It doesn't have anything to with the pastor. Another christian couple, friends of ours, also does not have a t.v. I think that is where this idea came about. I'm not saying I couldn't survive without the t.v., but it is merely entertainment.

There is nothing wrong with television (or any other object) unless you turn it into a god.

If you spend all day in front of the television and don't interact with your family then there is a problem.

There are lots of good things on tv. Also, television gives you images you would otherwise miss. Even though I heard on the radio at work that the twin towers had collapsed, I couldn't picture it in my mind until I got home and saw the news footage.

We quit watching tv cause we couldn't afford cable. No cable means a fuzzy public access channel if you're lucky. After a few years, when we go to friend's houses and watch TV we almost can't stand it. The same stuff we used to watch is awful. It's shocking that we were desensitized to all that stuff. The channels I like anymore, liek discovery, are so full of spam these days it's not even worth watching anymore.
So we can't stand television, but it's not because anyone made us feel that way. We couldn't afford it, and now we're glad we couldn't.

I agree to an extent that t.v. could be trash.. But then again, its only trash if you choose to watch the trash?
This might sound horrible or like I'm a horrible mom, but I'm thankful for our tv and our vcr. My little girls love watching their veggietales, or disney movies.. and my 4 year old loves Nick Jr. Granted there are some shows/cartoons on even that channel I wouldnt let her watch, but thats why your the parent and you have control of the remote and you can choose what to watch and what not to watch.

I like educational channels, but those have all turned into infomercial spam channels. I guess while everyone else is watching Friends, they have to find some way to fund the programming. I jsut have no use for television anymore. Kinda like the radio too. Kids love videos though.
But since I have no kids right now, I don't know. I may eat everything I have been typing here someday.
