Is there a food or a treat that when you start eating it you can't stop?

For me it's a block of chocolate and chips. Yummo.

I have tried to buy blocks of chocolate when their on special, but as soon as I get home. I just eat them all. I have no self control with chocolate and chips. The other item is shelled peanuts.

I have a fairly strong control over food and exercise in my life. But not with chocolate and chips. Why is that?

Take a break and drink water. Dehydration is often misunderstood as a craving for more food.

That's because a day without chocolate is like a day without sunshine. :yum:

Because sugar and the mixture of salt and saturated fats are similar to cocaine or heroin, in brain. When you taste it, you "need" more and more.

The only way to stop overeating with sugar (chocolate) and generally with junk food is to stop buying it. You will have a week or two of withdrawal symptoms and then you will be free.

To make it easier, you can substitute chocolate with a high quality organic cocoa powder mixed just with milk (without any added sugar) and eat more nuts. In this way you will get the good parts of the chocolate without the bad parts.

Excellent reply. Me go score some organic cocoa powder and get this monkey off my back.

Do you have any type of food that when you eat it you can't stop?

No, not really. In the past, similar to you - chocolate, chips, sweetened drinks, fast food...

Then I changed my diet to keto-mediterranean, combined with intermittent fasting and I have never felt better before.

I might check out the keto-Mediterranean.

What is intermittent fasting?

Do you have the super foods in your diet and antioxidants?

Shortly, it means no processed food, a lot of dairy/cheese, a lot of vegetables, sometimes eggs and a lot of healthy fats with omega-3. Keeping sacharides as low as possible.
And I do not eat red meat, I do not drink alcohol.

What is intermittent fasting?
Its limiting the time in which you allow yourself to eat. For example, you eat only between 3pm and 8pm and the rest is fasting. But there are many forms (eating every other day, fasting on weekends, OMAD etc).

Do you have the super foods in your diet and antioxidants?
Green tea, organic cocoa, nuts and anti-aging supplements.

I knew this, but not well enough to articulate it.

Large teams of biochemists and other specialists in big companies are experimenting, testing and developing these products to make them as addictive as possible, so customers will buy them again and again.

I have raw organic cacoa with cream, not milk so much as milk also has lots of sugar in the from of lactose. It is good to ween yourself off of sugar or at the least take breaks away from it.

Peace be to all those in the Body of Christ.

Yes, milk has lactose (you can buy lactose-free milk, though), so if somebody does not want even milk, he can use some plant alternatives or cream.

I personally do not have a problem with a normal full-fat bio milk, however. But its true it probably kicks me out of keto for a while because of the lactose.

Two things come to mind: reward and comfort.
I know people who have been taught from infancy to use food as a source of comfort. Whenever they feel bad or hurt psychologically, they resort to standing in front of the refrigerator, and piling in the food as a source of comfort.
That behavior usually starts in infancy, and is tied in with the parents using pacifier's to calm a tired, cranky child.
And so the link is formed in the child's young mind that filling the mouth gives them comfort.
One way to break that habit is to post a sign on where your favorite food is located, saying "NO".
The sign is there to:
1. Get your attention.
2. Stop the automatic response to reach for comfort in food.
If you can form a new way of handling whatever triggers that automatic response of reaching out for food, it will give your brain a chance to realize what you are doing, and give you a chance to control your automatic response.
Best wishes!

I'm trying to get back to intermittent fasting for my diabetes. When I was doing it on a regular basis, I had a couple cups of coffee and a protein shake in the morning. At least this way, I felt like I had something. My first real meal was lunch at noon and then dinner at 6. I'd have a light dessert at 7-8pm to finish the day.

In IF you should have at least 16 hours of continuous fasting.

Yeah, but fainting at the chanting stand or at work on a medical floor isn't fun, so I do have a little something.
