  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Help! Did I commit unpardonable sin?

I don't remember what happened I just remember I had thought that. Nobody else except me in my own mind heard that. Basically my whole concern was as someone who does believe in Christ for his salvation and wants to follow Him, I thought that what happened yesterday was the unpardonable sin so my trusting Jesus or following Him would be meaningless. But someone who committed the unpardonable sin would never have those desires right?

No, I don't think anyone who was trusting in Messiah would ever want to blaspheme the Holy Spirit. Obviously those particular Pharisees were no way trusting in Him! In fact, they were out to kill Him. Again, the Bible verses talk about what was spoken, not about some random thought that passes through the mind, quite possibly from the adversary.

Take a deep breath. Smile. You haven't blashphemed already.

The unpardonable sin was when the Pharisees saw the miracle that Jesus had just done and said it was the work of an unclean spirit (in Mark chapter 3). Something you thought or mumbled neurotically without malicious intent I do not think is considered the unpardonable sin. In regards to a person who committed this sin desiring salvation, Spurgeon said this: "Whatever the unpardonable sin may be, and perhaps it is different in every person - perhaps it is a point of sin in each one, a filling up of his measure, beyond which there is no more hope of mercy - whatever it is, there is one thing that is sure, that no man who feels his need of Christ, and sincerely desires to be saved, can have committed that sin at all."

Just look to Jesus and walk with Him. If you believe on Him and desire Him then I seriously doubt you have committed it.

1Jn 2:2 KJV
(2) And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.

ALL ' wrong thoughts and actions ('sins) have been paid for by Jesus. not believing ('sin') that Truth is the unforgivable sin; because you can't receive forgiveness if you don't believe it's already available.

change your focus from what you do to what He HAS done and you won't give your enemy the devil a chance to condemn you for wrong thoughts and actions :)

The pharisees did it willingly and had no regret at all and meant it.
It's not the unpardonable sin. The thought wasn't even from you, just an Arrow from the devil. I even spoke it to the Holy Spirit when I was just saved, but He forgave me anyway and He set me free from that and those thoughts I didn't want to think,.

I am surprised at the number of hits this thread got. Thank you all for your replies. I really do want to follow Jesus Christ because I do believe He died for me and I asked God to forgive me for what happened yesterday and asked to reveal to me if I had committed this sin or not almost 20 times today repeatedly. I am still nervous about it trying to remember how it happened but I want to put this behind me.

that's where faith comes in, and faith is a two step process:

2Co 10:3-6 KJV
(3) For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh:
(4) (For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)
(5) Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;
(6) And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled.

step 1 is to decide to stop thinking on condemning thoughts ('Casting down imaginations')

step 2 is to start thinking on God's promises to you in His word that counter those condemning thoughts ('bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ')

many people get stuck at step 1; they are constantly trying to stop thinking about something; but since they don't move on to step 2, they end up thinking ONLY about what they are trying to NOT think on. you can't stop thinking, so you must choose what you think on.

I know it is only through the work of the Holy Spirit that someone can come to Christ and turn from their sins and I have asked God to forgive me for what I thought tons of time yesterday and the day before. I did not say anything maliciously rejecting the Spirit or turning my back on God, as I only trust Christ for my salvation and I want to live for him but I am still worried and I feel good when I read the bible and about the salvation from sin Jesus provides but then when I get a bad thought I get frustrated and like I have to ask God to forgive me again and again.

Why would god punish you for merely thinking a thought? Especially a thought that doesn't represent all of who you are, it was just an idea... it wasn't even a purpose or desire and intention. The bible says god judges us by our acts, saying something is an act... a random thought is not and it would be very cruel to hurt a person just because a thought entered their head.

If you are having trouble thinking good things then this probably represents some conflicting desires inside you, maybe part of you wants and loves Jesus and part of you doesn't, you like part of it and part of it you don't like... if your having a war in your mind then you're having a war in your heart about what to do and it merely get's displayed in the mind, in your thoughts. If you solve the war in your heart, fix whatever need isn't being fullfilled that is hurting you... the mind will find rest.

Can I ask you this? Before this thoughts came, how was your prayer life and your relationship with Jesus? Did you feel that you were backsliding a little before this happened??

Well I would read the bible and pray a lot about a year ago and I felt I had some victory over sin and then I started having issues at home and questioning my faith and I began to backslide a little and it was up and down. Some days I would listen to the bible and other times I wouldn't. Why does that mean I really did commit it then?

We all have ups and downs and periods of backsliding in our faith walk. Look at the Word. What is Matthew 12 saying? Does it say that bad thoughts are unpardonable? Believe what you see.

Maybe because of backsliding you are more vulnerable to such attacks from the devil. So, our Heavenly Father is merciful and I strongly suspect will use this fright you have had to turn you into a more obedient follower.
