Jesus saved us from the wrath of God, a

That makes no sense.

Why would God sending part of himself to occupy a human carcass for a couple of decades save us from his wrath?

He's God, why didn't he just change the rules, which was his intention anyways?

Choosing one race over others seems kind of racist, don't you think?

Shouldn't a loving God not pick favourites and love all his children equally?

What about those people who aren't His children?

In your view, who are not god's children?

Why "in my view"? Why not "According to the Bible, who are not God's children"?

Scripture is our standard, not subjective opinion.

I'm sure this has been posted about a lot. I'm an agnostic, leaning towards atheist. But recently I realized how sick the concept of Hell actually is. I was raised a Christian. We are taught about it in Sunday school, and think almost nothing of it. We are desensitized to it.

Anyway, how do you guys get around the thought of your coworkers, friends, etc., burning in Hell for all eternity in endless agony?

Blind post.

I don't. The God I believe in doesn't punish people eternally for the sins in a limited lifetime. That is to say - I do not believe in a sort of regenerative death where souls are "alive" enough to "feel torment" for endless eons...

I don't think this interpretation can be made from the bible either - not without strict interpretation of certain words/phrases in certain areas with a disregard for how those strict interpretations cannot be used elsewhere and be understood differently.

That text refers to the end times when everyone basically would be as bad as they get.
People today are not as bad as they can get.

Religious people as well as atheist both worship idols if they choose to do so. Worshiping money (things like that).

If you die (and I wish you long and healthy life) as you are, you would go into the Underworld.
It is not a nice place. You would reside in a neighborhood that is reflective of the sins you have committed.
Also, if you had it easy here, you would not have that easy there.
This hell is kind of a Great Equalizer.

The place has cities, levels, the gospel is also "preachable" there ... it means it would have types of churches ... but sin would be lot more obvious than here.
Sad place. Law abiding Jews of the OT were going there hopping to get the "top" level and join their "fathers".
Asians know a lot more on that as well.
That's where 'ancestral worship" came from - being afraid of own parents. Another story.

I talk too much ... :)

I read that the underworld (hell) is the center of the earth, which makes sense to me.

You can't be hidden and obvious at the same time.

Good question.

But according to the Christian Bible, "without the shedding of blood there is no remission of sin." Jesus became the eternal sacrifice for all who believe. Before Jesus, they sacrificed animals to redeem themselves. If there was no punishment of sin, God would not be holy. And the punishment of sin is death.

God will not and can not change. People say nothing's impossible with God; but according to the Christian Bible it is impossible for God to lie or change. But all this will not make sense to an athiest or an agnostic. Paul writes that the message Christ's death is foolishness to the unbelievers. So yes, it's not going to make sense anyone unless God himself opens their hearts and minds. No human being can make an unbeliever understand unless God works through them.

We do NOT think of such things.......in regards to believing in others being sent there. We are to pray in LOVE that they will obtain mercy and reflect on our own faults rather first and foremost. We are also to preach and warn others of the reality of that place that we should not desire nor want upon others only that other people be saved.

1 Timothy 2:1-5 King James Version (KJV)

2 I exhort therefore, that, first of all, supplications, prayers, intercessions, and giving of thanks, be made for all men;

2 For kings, and for all that are in authority; that we may lead a quiet and peaceable life in all godliness and honesty.

3 For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour;

4 Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth.

5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;

and....

2 Peter 3:5-10 King James Version (KJV)

5 For this they willingly are ignorant of, that by the word of God the heavens were of old, and the earth standing out of the water and in the water:

6 Whereby the world that then was, being overflowed with water, perished:

7 But the heavens and the earth, which are now, by the same word are kept in store, reserved unto fire against the day of judgment and perdition of ungodly men.

8 But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.

9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.

Praise be to GOD the father in heaven and his son LORD JESUS CHRIST forever>>>>>>>>>>>>>>

I unfortunately was subjected to a "Christian" who told me all the nice people I know who are not Christians will burn in hell.

We were in a moving vehicle and I became a 'captive' audience.

As soon as I can, I changed the topic. Tune out. Ignored the person.

I personally do not believe that God will put people in hell just because they are from a different group / different from others. This is discrimination.

Discrimination is man made. That is my view.

Personally, I feel that God loves us. And, only He can judge us.

I cannot go and say so-and-so will go to hell because ... of Matthew 7:2

Matthew 7:2 Do Not Judge
1"Do not judge so that you will not be judged. 2"For in the way you judge, you will be judged; and by your standard of measure, it will be measured to you. 3"Why do you look at the speck that is in your brother's eye, but do not notice the log that is in your own eye?…

Personally, I feel that people who think and say that certain others will go to hell are pretty foolish and are testing God's patience.

It seems like the majority of apologetics on this forum claim that hell is either a misinterpretation of the bible or that people are sent there because they choose to go there by not following jesus.

for the first group, read the parable of the rich man and lazarus. If you still feel that hell isn't whats being implied here, please give me an alternative argument for what Jesus could have been talking about.
For the second, do you really think atheists, agnostics and other religious people believe Christianity to be true? Its not like they know Jesus was the son of God and choose not to follow him anyway.

These arguments are so irritating to hear because they honestly feel like a waste of time to refute. People who think this way clearly haven't given any thought to their religion, and just blindly follow it. Which is understandable, especially if you were brought up in a Christian home like most Christians are.

Some say that hell is the complete absence of God. Imagine the kind of place that would be.

The 'absence of God' is a bit of a misleading statement, as God is everywhere and all-knowing.
The complete absence is really one forsaken- God actually punishes, it's not simply Him leaving evil to it's own device.

People tend to subdue that reality because it's hard to swallow, but that is is simply part of God's righteousness- the wicked are condemned to Hellfire, not an underworld anarchy.
