Isn't it rather interesting that the place where people met under a roof and therefore "covered," (hell) and the place where people are "six feet under" and therefore "unseen," come from the same word.

There are many to need the threat of eternal torment to remain "good." Is it, therefore, wise to try to remove it?

We are already in hell. Some like it here (the food, the rules, the sky, the politics, the sports, etc.) Hell is separation from the Most High; clearly we are separated from Him by our incredible ignorance and iniquity.

The whole walk of the Redeemer was to show us how to get out of hell. If we follow in His footsteps, we don't have to remain dead - I think humans who believe in the Most High forget we are actually dead; we are trying to get Life.

It all changes after the Great White Thrown Judgement found in Revelation 20 anyway.

It all depends on whether you believe the Bible's description of hell or not.

I've contemplated the similarities between the words "hell" and "jail"...

*And the biblical descriptions could be speaking of today's penal institutions.

"Hell" is simply the grave. It's usage has changed to mean eternal separation from God, which is not the same thing. I'm guilty of misusing the word myself.

Death is the consequence of sin. It was spiritual death first and physical death followed. Death will be defeated and the grave will be redundant! Death and hell will be cast into the lake of fire, which is probably why people assume that hell is the place of judgement.

The concept of hell where there are dungeons, demons and fire is a fantasy created by Dante. The Catholic church liked it because they could use the fear of that kind of hell to control the people. The lake of fire is not physical. Our God is a consuming fire. The vast majority of references to fire in the Bible are to do with judgement.

HADES means "unseen" - a Greek word for SEE with a negating alpha in front

Gehenna might be a valley where refuse was burned

Tartarus / Torments is a place of punishment

Sheol is hole in the ground / realm of the dead

    All these are HELL

Dante' s imagination went off the charts in his writings about hell, and, as said above, captured imaginations

I believe and confess - so

I am new to this site but it is utterly disturbing at how many of you are taking hell so lightly. It’s not a hyperbole or illusion. It’s not a mindset or annihilation. God made us in His image and part of that was that we would become eternal upon entrance into the world. If you even think hell will be any less than conscious, real and vivid torment, then you neglect to understand God’s holiness and the weight of His wrath. Christ suffered immensely because of the severity of God’s cup of wrath we have filled by our sin. I assure you, the sufferings of the
Almighty will be translated into an eternal torture for those that endure the second death.

    Hello,

I'm not sure if you have ever felt a weight of guilt while being innocent..
It is a burden typically used as a tool to use the strength of others to their own benefit.

Hmmm a world full of people running away from something, landing in the same spot as God...think they are looking forward to what God has in store for them?.. Chances are they have no idea who God really is, nor what His Universe is truly like. I don't think they would be happy in heaven. They have sins that they never got rid of, and are still very much attached to.

On the other hand those who are looking heavenward, not because they are under the threat of eternal torment, but long to be with God whom they have come to know and love and are looking forward to spending eternity with, will rest in Him that day.

If you have no part in it, you have nothing to fear from it. It is a final cleansing process that needs to be done and when it is finished, sin will never rear its ugly head in the mind, heart, or have any remnants in the eternal life with God.

Perception clouds the mind and visual understand of what is the truth. While teachers today teach one thing mangling the Biblical word, the authors of scripture were clear on what is the truth.

I think that the Bible is quite clear in its description of hell. We are eternal beings, and when we leave our physical bodies and go out into eternity, we will either be with Christ or apart from Him. So we will go to one place or another. One place will be full of joy in the presence of the Lord; the other place will be one of outer darkness where people will wail and gnash their teeth.

Jesus said, "I am the way, the truth, and the life, and no one comes to the Father except by Me." That means that only those who receive Jesus Christ as Saviour, Son of God, and Lord, will enter into the place of the joy of the Lord. Those who reject Christ will end up in the outer darkness separate from the Father and the Son.

The Bible cannot be more clear than that about where the two groups of people will spend eternity.

    True,
there is an outer darkness of grinding teeth with wailing discord till silence no more.
And they will speak no more along with the ash of their serpent covering..

Without water, bitter or sweet, there is no sound..
