You evaded the question
How did I evade it? Which statement are you talking about that disproves that God's word is God? The Bible was breathed out by God, it is God.

Caphi, what is deity? Again, you'll offend me by insulting my Father. You cannot do that. It isn't right. What good is it doing you to insult me. In the past, I rolled over like a dog because of circumstances in the past where I let my dad walk over me. No more!!!! My evidence is eternal, the truth, and you will know one day by God Himself. Faith is my evidence. I believe for that is what the Bible tells me and I believe every single morsle of it. The Bible is a Christian's evidence and if you don't believe it because you are too blind to see, then I can't help that.
I don't mind if you use the Bible as evidence...

IF (pay attention to the if) you can provide INDEPENDENT evidence that it is in fact valid evidence. Put simply, the Bible, just like EVERY OTHER BOOK, is not valid evidence until demonstrated otherwise, whereas you want it the other way around.

And I'm sorry if you had a rough childhood, but what does that have to do with the debate? I'm not talking about your father, whatever his less engaging characteristics might be, I'm talking about the being which is described in the Bible, who is by all reasonable accounts a selfish, jealous and vindictive brat.

The point is this: The Bible, interpreted, as you acknowledge, through the mind of man, is not the undiluted, inspired word of God. Worshiping God does not require worshiping the Bible—*on the contrary, being as the Bible is a work of man, it is inherently less than God and worshiping it is in fact a form of idolatry.

And this has to do with evolution... Somehow :p

And there you have it, folks.

With this mindset, all bets are off for rational and logical discussion. Any and all evidence to the contrary, is useless. Hard and tangible evidence has no chance when it comes to this kind of treatment of ancient writings.

I don't worship the Bible. I listen to it and obey it. I obey the word of God, God Himself, I worship God Himself.

And isn't faith evidence? ...
No, not even close. Faith is believing in something without supporting evidence and to me that's a bad thing. I'm sure the people from Heaven's Gate and the Branch Davidians had all kinds of faith.

Show me evidence of that. Where do you see God is any less then good in God's word?

And isn't faith evidence? It perfectly makes sense to me.
For one thing, he executed a massive campaign of genocide against almost all the species in the world by means of painful drowning and repeated water pressure. Sounds cruel as (ironically) Hell to me.

That was our fault. We are sinners, stupid, stray, lost, blind... He wanted to start over but He had grace on us and changed His mind. Maybe He should have wiped out existence...

To me it is strong evidence...
Then you must believe lots of different Gods exist because each one is believed through faith of thier followers.

When you have faith, you are putting yourself in the hands of someone's word. You can't really say it God's word because it's man that's telling you it's God's word so you have to put faith in those men.

To me, having faith is a gamble and I'm not a gambling man. Jonestown, Heaven's Gate, and the Branch Davidians lost their gamble. They had faith that their leaders spoke for God and it got them killed.

That would be all fine and dandy, IF we(humans) were the only ones affected, and IF all humanity at the time of the flood myth knew about god.

The reality is, that if the Noahic flood occured as the Bible said, and was a truely global flood, then millions of peole living outside the Mid-East who ahd never been exposed to Christianity died for no reason. And that all the animal and plant life on the planet died for no reason.

Any being that would perpetrate such vicious actions is not a good and benevolent entity.

Fortunately, we know today that no such flood ever took place. There is zero evidence that such a flood tok place, and a mountain of evidence that it did not.

The reality is, that the story of Noah is a parable, possibly based on a nugget of truth. A localized flood of the region is entirely possible,a nd actually quite likely considering the river systems of the Tigris, Euphrates, etc. These rivers flood regularly even today.

There is another story from the Mesopotamian region that tells of a merchant who managed to save most of his goods and livestock on a boat during a major flood. Can't recall his name atm.

The bible is filled with miraculous tales such as Noahs flood, and not a single one of them has any evidence for them except for the Bible. They are myth and parable. They are stories meant to teach, not to be taken as literal history. When the Bible is used as a philosphical/spiritual guide book, it can a valid source of guidance. But when you try to use it as a history or science book, it falls flat on its face.

Faith is belief without evidence. If you want to indulge in such thinking, then you are welcome to. I respect your right to do such. But I do not have to respect your faith itself, or anything actually related to your religion, nor do I. Expeicially when faith is used as an excuse for intellectual laziness and pushed around as real science.

(not saying you do this, you may or may not, but it is what drew me to these forums)
