That was our fault.

We are sinners, stupid, stray, lost, blind... He wanted to start over but He had grace on us and changed His mind.

Maybe He should have wiped out existence...
That would be all fine and dandy, IF we(humans) were the only ones affected, and IF all humanity at the time of the flood myth knew about god.
The reality is, that if the Noahic flood occured as the Bible said, and was a truely global flood, then millions of peole living outside the Mid-East who ahd never been exposed to Christianity died for no reason. And that all the animal and plant life on the planet died for no reason.
Any being that would perpetrate such vicious actions is not a good and benevolent entity.
Fortunately, we know today that no such flood ever took place. There is zero evidence that such a flood tok place, and a mountain of evidence that it did not.
The reality is, that the story of Noah is a parable, possibly based on a nugget of truth. A localized flood of the region is entirely possible,a nd actually quite likely considering the river systems of the Tigris, Euphrates, etc. These rivers flood regularly even today.
There is another story from the Mesopotamian region that tells of a merchant who managed to save most of his goods and livestock on a boat during a major flood. Can't recall his name atm.
The bible is filled with miraculous tales such as Noahs flood, and not a single one of them has any evidence for them except for the Bible. They are myth and parable. They are stories meant to teach, not to be taken as literal history. When the Bible is used as a philosphical/spiritual guide book, it can a valid source of guidance. But when you try to use it as a history or science book, it falls flat on its face.
Faith is belief without evidence. If you want to indulge in such thinking, then you are welcome to. I respect your right to do such. But I do not have to respect your faith itself, or anything actually related to your religion, nor do I. Expeicially when faith is used as an excuse for intellectual laziness and pushed around as real science.
(not saying you do this, you may or may not, but it is what drew me to these forums)
