  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Is it wrong that I hate someone?

When I say hate, I mean hate, HATE....

There's this person I work with, who I see 5 days out of 7, and I really really despise this person to the point I have to actively avoid him, sometimes trying to pre-empt his whereabouts to avoid bumping into him.

And, what makes it worse... is that he's a nice guy, has never done me any harm and is well liked by all of my workmates.

hmm..I would say it can't be healthy for you. Any time you and me allow another to get us upset or hate, that person has control over us. I would say to forgive the situation/the person/the thot that is causing you to hate and move on.

Hope that helps you
Have a good one

Thanks for the on topic replies..

And Zaac, I may be an Atheist, and you may think that because I don't believe in God that means I hate him. Quiet the opposite in fact. I would like God to be real.. I admire Jesus' teachings... for a man to express those views in that time and place is truly wonderful and as an Ideology I would consider myself "Christian".

I don't want to go to Hell, as I'm sure you believe I will. I would much rather spend eternity in peace and happiness and in love.

The problem is I just don't think any of that stuff, Heaven and Hell, God or the Devil, the Garden of Eden or Creationism is true...

I haven't reached this conclusion because of hate but through logic, reason and understanding nature.

Christianity would be much more successful if the teachings of Jesus were its core values.. and the people followed these values. It seems many Christians have forgotten the teachings that great man.

Back to my OP...

Maybe hate is too strong a word... I don't wish this man any ill or injury. I'm not a psychopath!

I just can't stand to be around him, and when I am forced into contact with him my stomach turns and I find myself trying to calm myself down.

As I said, it's not a personally thing... I hardly know the guy, and he seems nice enough, and everyone else likes him.

It's just something about him... a look, his voice, the way he carries himself, everything that makes him a flesh and blood human being annoys me.

Also, I think the fact that everyone else doesn't see him the way I see him makes me dislike him even more...

Maybe I am just a little nuts..

Thanks for the comments anyway:thumbsup:

Well, the appearance of others when it displeases our senses (sometimes arbitrarily) can trigger feelings of indifference or even hostility in some, but we must realize that its not something wrong with them, its something wrong with us.

We shouldn't dislike people bc they smell bad, or have an annoying voice; although generally its not a bad idea to implant the subconscious suggestion that showering is good. heh.

So, how do you manage to generate those negative emotions towards him?

Hatred is a natural human emotion that we can overcome if we try to be as objective as possible and remember the Commandments of our Lord.

If anything, we should have sympathy for those whom we dislike because they are obviously doing something that is quite agitating -- perhaps they do not understand their faults, or perhaps it is even we who are at fault because of emotional and chemical imbalances.

I promise you: you do not want to be around me before I have chewed my tobacco for 20 minutes in the morning.

To say I generate these emotions implies, to me at least, that there's some concious effort on my part, to feel negatively about him.

I didn´t mean to imply there was a conscious effort on your part.

Rather, I was trying to offer a starting point for getting aware of unaware/subconscious processes, with the purpose of gaining control where you currently feel controlled.

I was, however, making the assumption that you were not exactly happy with being controlled by your negative emotions.

Again Tower , I speak of Jesus because Jesus should always be at the center of the discussion on this board.

Nobody wants you to go to hell. I'm sure we would all rather see you in heaven.

But you have made the CHOICE to be an atheist. That means you have CHOSEN to reject Jesus. And if you don't love Him, you hate Him and the result of you accepting Him as anything less than He is will be Hell.

I don't mean for it to sound so gloom and doom, but you got a lot of folks flat out telling you lies. They are telling you the same thing that Muslims teach and that will lead you straight to hell.

You don't have the indwelling of the one who is love. If you did, you could love your fellow man in spite of what he has done to you.

The teachings of Jesus ARE the core values of Christianity. And those core values say that if you ain't for Him, you're against Him. And that means the lake of Fire for all eternity.

I know you don't think the stuff you mentioned is true. That's why you chose the atheist label. But just as surely as you deny God and His truth, it evidences that you hate Him, and the end result of that rejection will be the Lake of Fire.

Don't let these false teachers convince you that your denial of God is anything less than a hate for Him.

18"If the world hates you, keep in mind that it hated me first. 19If you belonged to the world, it would love you as its own. As it is, you do not belong to the world, but I have chosen you out of the world. That is why the world hates you. 20Remember the words I spoke to you: 'No servant is greater than his master.' If they persecuted me, they will persecute you also. If they obeyed my teaching, they will obey yours also. 21They will treat you this way because of my name, for they do not know the One who sent me.

22If I had not come and spoken to them, they would not be guilty of sin. Now, however, they have no excuse for their sin. 23He who hates me hates my Father as well. 24If I had not done among them what no one else did, they would not be guilty of sin. But now they have seen these miracles, and yet they have hated both me and my Father. 25But this is to fulfill what is written in their Law: 'They hated me without reason.'
John 15:18-25

Confess and repent of your sins while trusting in Jesus Christ as Lord and Savior and you will see just how easy it is to love those you once hated because His love for you overflows into your love for others.:)

Sometimes we can make a person feel uncomfortable without saying a word.

How so? I've never met a person and instantly knew what faith they were simply by their presence, without some sort of outward sign. I mean, if I meet a person with a cross necklace, they are usually Christian, if I meet a person with a kippah, I assume they are Jewish. Other than those kinds of things, I've never felt a "Christian vibe" or anything like that.

Zaac, you are right, I have chosen to be an atheist but I haven't chosen to reject Jesus. I honestly admire the man and his teachings. Obviously I don't love him, just like I don't love other historical figures but similarly I don't hate him.

What reason would I have for hating Jesus?

a lot of folks flat out telling you lies

That may be true but how do you know you're not the one being told lies?

The teachings of Jesus ARE the core values of Christianity

They may be the core values of "Christianity" but the followers of Christ, at least the more vocal ones, and the laws and rules the Church has erected hardly seem Christ-like. That's my point.

There are many on this forum (not naming names) who act more like the Devil than Christ.

Is this guy a Christian?

I have no religious beliefs.

Tower Crane Driver,

Try to figure out why you hate him. Since you say you don't know the guy and he is nice, it's probably one of two things - either he reminds you very strongly of someone else or he has a trait that you hate in yourself.

If it were me, I'd be curious to find out the reason. When you know why, you may be better able to deal with it.

It's not so much wrong to hate a guy you barely know (providing you don't try to harm him) as it is unhealthy for you.
