  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

And I did discuss the topic from a Biblical perspective. As an atheist, he doesn't love his neighbor unconditionally because he rejects Christ. SO while yall skirt the real issue, I'm gonna deal with what his real problem is: the rejection of Jesus Christ.

I love my neighbor because the book of Leviticus says I'm supposed to and it's part of the ethical teachings of the faith I am converting to. How can you say I am unable to do this? I already do.

I do cope with it and I have learnt to work with him.

My age marker is correct and I don't make my problem with the man in question known. I don't behave like a spoilt child around him. When I have to work with him, i do, and I do it respectfully and treat him the same way I treat all others.

I avoid him and try and pre-empt his movements to avoid him, to stop myself getting annoyed by him.

Maybe we could get back to discussing the rights and wrongs of liking or disliking someone arbitrarily?

Have you already stated just why you hate this individual?

If they can deny the existence of God, then can say they hate Jesus.

I deny the existence of YOUR God, but I DON'T hate Jesus.

he doesn't love his neighbor unconditionally because he rejects Christ

What about the neighbours that I do love unconditionally?

the rejection of Jesus.

It's only the supernatural aspect of Jesus that I reject as being a human creation. I don't reject his teachings or his wisdom.

^_^ Gaea ain't my Lord and Savior.

Well, *you* don't believe she is, anyway. You're an atheist, as far as Gaea is concerned, I'm guessing? So, you've rejected Gaea as the source of love and inspiration in your life, therefore you hate her. And if you reject the source of love, how can you love anybody?

I deny the existence of YOUR God, but I DON'T hate Jesus.

Jesus is MY God. If you deny the existence of Him, then you might as well say that you hate Him cause that denial will place you in the Lake of Fire.

What about the neighbours that I do love unconditionally?

You can't LOVE without the One Who is Love.

It's only the supernatural aspect of Jesus that I reject as being a human creation. I don't reject his teachings or his wisdom.

So you reject His deity. You ain't done anything but reinforce that your rejection of Jesus as GOD is the same as hate for Jesus.

Jesus is MY God

I thought GOD was your God?

If you deny the existence of Him

I don't deny the existence of Jesus; I deny that Jesus the man has any supernatural powers or is in anyway supernatural in origin.

then you might as well say that you hate Him

But I DON'T hate him.

Not believing that he is supernatural does not therefore mean that I hate him.

that denial will place you in the Lake of Fire.

If the price I pay for being sceptical is eternal damnation then so be it.

You can't LOVE without the One Who is Love.

Clearly that isn't true. I love my parents, my wife and my children.

So you reject His deity

YES!

rejection of Jesus as GOD is the same as hate for Jesus.

That is your misunderstanding, not mine.

I thought GOD was your God?

See you're as off about that as you are about the existence of God. Jesus is God.;)

I don't deny the existence of Jesus; I deny that Jesus the man has any supernatural powers or is in anyway supernatural in origin.

Then you deny Jesus as who He says He is. Like I said before, your problem, like all atheists is that you hate Jesus because He is God.

And if you hate Jesus, no one should be surprised that you hate someone else.

But I DON'T hate him.

If you deny Him as Lord and Savior, you hate him.

Not believing that he is supernatural does not therefore mean that I hate him.

Sure it does. It means you don't believe He is Who He says He is. And that hatred of God will place you in the eternal Lake of Fire unless a confession and repentance of your sin and placing of your faith in Jesus Christ takes place.

If the price I pay for being sceptical is eternal damnation then so be it.

And this is why your rejection of Him amounts to hatred for Him. And this is why He says no man has an excuse.

Clearly that isn't true. I love my parents, my wife and my children.

If you say so. Your measure of Love ain't the same as God's.:)

That's why it's obvious that you DO hate Jesus.

That is your misunderstanding, not mine.

My understanding is fine. You claim to respect the teachings and wisdom of Jesus that are given in the same Holy Scriptures that say He is God. And then say you don't think He had any supernatural abilities.

(SMH)

Just more proof that atheists hate God and know that He is God.

Please stop telling me what to stop telling people. It is insulting and just rude.

I'm not claiming you have emotions you do not claim to have. I do not hate Jesus, I also do not think Jesus is who Christians claim he is. It has nothing to do with hate. You cannot know my true feelings, so you cannot tell me what I must feel.

Ah yes, the Trinity.

Then you deny Jesus as who He says He is

If Jesus claims to be God then yes I deny that because I don't believe any such beings exist.

you hate Jesus because He is God.

I don't hate him! Besides, I don't think he is God. I don't think anyone who claims to be God is a God because I don't believe Gods exist.

It is a belief about reality, it is separate from emotion.

And if you hate Jesus, no one should be surprised that you hate someone else.

I don't hate Jesus.

If you deny Him as Lord and Savior, you hate him.

Nonsense.

It means you don't believe He is Who He says He is.

Does Jesus actually say he is God?

I'm not claiming you have emotions you do not claim to have.

And neither did I for you.

I do not hate Jesus,

You're not the OP. I didn't say that you did.:)

I also do not think Jesus is who Christians claim he is.

Jesus is who HE says He is. What you THINK is irrelevant.

It has nothing to do with hate. You cannot know my true feelings, so you cannot tell me what I must feel.

Sure I can. If you reject Him as Lord and Savior, it's because you hate Him.

He makes the claim and if you don't believe it, it shouldn't really bother ya that I make it known that you hate Jesus.

Reality says you hate your neighbor because you hate God.

I don't hate Jesus.

You reject Him as God. So you hate Him.

Nonsense.

Perfectly Biblical sense.

Does Jesus actually say he is God?

You, who are such a fan of his teachings and wisdom should know what He says.

Is it wrong that I hate someone?

When I say hate, I mean hate, HATE....

There's this person I work with, who I see 5 days out of 7, and I really really despise this person to the point I have to actively avoid him, sometimes trying to pre-empt his whereabouts to avoid bumping into him.

And, what makes it worse... is that he's a nice guy, has never done me any harm and is well liked by all of my workmates.

Well I would say that there is something wrong with it, but I'm not sure you are describing hate. I am curious though can you not think of any reason to dislike the person? It is unusual to dislike someone for no reason although sometimes these reasons are more subconscious than conscious such as the person reminds you of someone you truly dislike and you are transferring those feelings.

What I have found is that there is something in them that is also in you that you do not like in yourself.

Thanks Aisy,

There isn't one clear thing or trigger. It's his mannerisms, they way he speaks, what he speaks about... basically his entire personality.
That's the what, not the why.

I would say that sometimes people just rub us the wrong way, but you're reacting in an extreme way.

But, out of curiosity, what are the mannerisms? What does he speak about? Just trying to get a sense of the situation...

To say I generate these emotions
implies, to me at least, that there's some conscious effort on my part, to feel negatively about him.
The fact that you say your "stomach turns" in his presence,
says sub-consciously you feel negatively about him, yes.

How much healthier for your sake, to heal  who knows,
given other co-workers feel comfortable... you could end-up maybe friends! :)

Why is it that every single board around here has some fundie on a mission to make themselves to center of every thread?

Interesting....

I have noticed that for each fundamentalist we have making themselves the center of every thread, there is always that one atheist who tries to capture a little of the thunder. ;)
