Has the Holy Spirit explicitly led you to keep the Sabbath?

I do not believe we should try and base our faith on arguments or bets that are not supported by the scriptures. There is no scripture that teaches that God's 4th commandments which is one of God's 10 commandments that give us the knowledge of what sin is when broken has been abolished and we are now commanded to keep Sunday as a Holy day. Keep in mind also that in times of ignorance God winks at but as we grow in his grace and he gives us a knowledge of his truth calls all men everywhere to believe and follow his Word.

Consider the following thought experiment: If the Holy Spirit falls upon someone (like Cornelius and his household in Acts 10) who was not a Sabbath keeper, would you expect that the Holy Spirit will lead that person to keep the Sabbath very quickly? If so, how do you explain that in so many revivals over the course of the Church History we don't see that happening?

According to the scriptures and as posted earlier God's does not give his Spirit to those who do not believe and follow his Word if they have been given a knowledge of the truth of God's Word and reject it *HEBREWS 10:26-31; In times of ignorance when we do not know any better God does not hold us accountable to sin until he gives us a knowledge of the truth of his Word and reject it *JAMES 4:17. When God gives us a knowledge of his truth however according to the scriptures he expects us to believe and follow his Word * ACTS OF THE APOSTLES 17:30-31. You do not know if Cornelius had a knowledge of the truth of God's Word or not the same as you so not know if Cornelius was a Sabbath keeper or not. All we are told was that he loved and wanted to follow God.

2 Cor 3:

7Now if the ministry of death, which was engraved in letters on stone, came with such glory that the Israelites could not gaze at the face of Moses because of its fleeting glory, 8will not the ministry of the Spirit be even more glorious? 9For if the ministry of condemnation was glorious, how much more glorious is the ministry of righteousness! 10Indeed, what was once glorious has no glory now in comparison to the glory that surpasses it. 11For if what was fading away came with glory, how much greater is the glory of that which endures!12Therefore, since we have such a hope, we are very bold. 13We are not like Moses, who would put a veil over his face to keep the Israelites from gazing at the end of what was fading away.14But their minds were closed. For to this day the same veil remains at the reading of the old covenant. It has not been lifted, because only in Christ can it be removed. 15And even to this day when Moses is read, a veil covers their hearts. 16But whenever anyone turns to the Lord, the veil is taken away.17Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. 18And we, who with unveiled faces all reflect the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into His image with intensifying glory, which comes from the Lord, who is the Spirit.

We are still hearing the ministry of condemnation...

1Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus. 2For in Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set you free from the law of sin and death. 3For what the law was powerless to do in that it was weakened by the flesh, God did by sending His own Son in the likeness of sinful man, as an offering for sin.

Who else can lead you to keep God's Commandments? The question for you is, do you know what is the Holy Spirit?

Sin is the transgression of God's law *1 JOHN 3:4. If we break anyone of God's 10 commandments according to the scriptures we stand guilty before God of sin *JAMES 2:10-11. It is God's law that gives us the knowledge of what sin is *ROMANS 3:20; ROMANS 7:7. There is no condemnation to those who have received God's forgiveness and are now free to walk in God's Spirit (new covenant) *ROMANS 8:1-4; GALATIANS 5:16. There is only condemnation to those who are still in their sins and knowingly practicing them *1 JOHN 3:6-9. Those who practice sin once they have been given a knowledge of the truth of God's Word and reject it, according to the scriptures, have not seen God or know him *1 JOHN 2:3-4 and are still in their sins according to the scriptures *HEBREWS 10:26-31. It is only those who believe and follow God's Word that are his sheep. God's Sheep hear his voice (the Word) and follow him according to the scriptures in John 10:26-27.

You are great at copy and paste but what is going on behind that armour?

May you discover the real sabbath rest in what He has done.

I did not copy and paste anything to you. I simply posted the scriptures for what was shared with you. Thank you dear friend. May you discover the real Sabbath rest in what he has done as well.

So my question is: have you ever been explicitly led by the Holy Spirit to keep the Sabbath?

Shalom again @TruthSeek3r

By an audible voice? No. By a sign or wonder? No. By conviction? Yes.

Keep in mind, I have had no sign or wonder to lead me to not sin in other ways. All leading initially starts as a deep conviction and bigger signs can follow if you continue to resist.

But observing the Sabbath should be a joy and happy time rather than burden and heavy. If it will feel like the latter to you, then perhaps the Sabbath isn't for you. If it would feel like the former, then rejoice and jump in on Friday night!

However, I don't think we should wait for explicit supernatural signs to follow His Word. As His Word is a significant and sufficient sign in of itself.

Now, if one was reading the Word on a desert island - free from the teachings of men and church traditions - what do you suppose their conclusion would be on the Sabbath? Would they feel it was annulled in Colossians 2:16 with a just an off-the-cuff remark compared to all Yahweh the Creator of it had to say?

I'm not saying Paul was writing against Yahweh's command. Far from it. Rather, the teachings of Paul have been distorted in the hands of men and biased traditions to "colour" his message.

But anyway, no. I have had no explicit sign other than the deep conviction that I cannot describe. It wasn't always there, but when it came (I suppose when I was ready) I was guided to keep the Sabbath. We are all on different paths leading to that Narrow Path. The speed in which we get there and when we get there is all very individual.

Although it sounds like you may be getting closer (just my opinion though).

May Yahweh guide you on your search for truth.
Love & Shalom

1) If the Holy Spirit falls upon someone who was not a Sabbath keeper, would you expect that person to be led by the Holy Spirit to keep the Sabbath very quickly? Yes, no?

2) If your answer to 1) was Yes: then how do you explain that in so many revivals (where the Holy Spirit is claimed to have moved) we don't see that happening? Say, after a few months into the revival, why wasn't everyone keeping the Sabbath? Wouldn't the Holy Spirit very quickly lead them into keeping it?

Yes, I have. I was raised SDA, believed in the sabbath, but went away from church for many years. I never worked on the sabbath, but was not keeping it the way God asked or intended. Every time I went to Home Depot or some other store on Saturday I would feel guilty, but pushed those feelings aside. This went on for years. I look back now and can't believe how far I fell.

Years later, I decided to open a retail/cafe type establishment. I initially kept our main (manufacturing) location closed on the weekends, so I could "keep sabbath" even though I wasn't really keeping it. When I opened the second location the lease required to be open 7 days. I signed the lease with a lot of guilt. I did have a blast designing/decorating the space to the nines but as soon as we opened the doors to the public, I knew I made the biggest mistake in my life. Even though I was not keeping sabbath previously, working on sabbath created an unrest in my soul like no other experience. I was stressed, unhappy and wanted nothing to do with my business which was funded by retirement funds. I prayed to God and asked Him for His guidance. Told God I wanted to obey His will and worship Him on His holy sabbath. I asked for forgiveness and a way out. Shortly after, I listed my business for sale and than COVID hit. The good thing with COVID I could limit the hours we were open so closed on Saturdays (and went back to church). I didn't think I would find a buyer during this time. It is difficult to sell your restaurant/type business without COVID, almost impossible when all the restaurants were forced to be closed or with severe restrictions. Shortly after though my broker called and said someone wanted to meet me. We set up a meeting, talked about an hour and than a few days later offered me close to my asking price, which we accepted. We had a very difficult landlord who would not reassign the lease for no reason, but with prayers overcame that obstacle and was able to successfully close the sale. My broker was stunned because no one was buying at that time, he couldn't believe it, but I could because I knew God answered my prayers. I have been keeping Sabbath ever since. I think that experience saved my life. For the first time I actually really understood why the Sabbath is so important. It's not just about going to church. It's about making that special day entirely about God and getting to know Him through church, prayer, studying and fellowship. God gives us such a blessing on sabbath.

Thanks @imge for sharing your testimony. Two questions:

1) What about people who benefit from "church, prayer, studying and fellowship" on other days of the week?

2) It's not clear to me how the Holy Spirit was leading you in all this. Have you received the baptism in the Holy Spirit?

2) It's not clear to me how the Holy Spirit was leading you in all this. Have you received the baptism in the Holy Spirit?

1.) I don't think there is anything wrong with worshipping, studying, and fellowship on other days of the week. I actually think its important to have devotion, prayer and studying Gods word everyday. But, we must also keep the Sabbath holy as the commandment and scripture requires.

God says 1 John 2:4 Whoever says “I know him” but does not keep his commandments is a liar, and the truth is not in him, One way we get to know God is through the 4th Commandment.
Exodus 20:8-11
8 “Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. 9 Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 10 but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord your God. In it you shall do no work: you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates. 11 For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it.

This is Gods special day that He blessed. We get to put away all the stresses from every day life and build and strengthen our relationship with Him.

2.) It was clear to me the Holy Sprit was leading me away from my sin. My soul is at peace now that I am keeping Gods law and sabbath. It was not before. God gives us the strength to do so. When we fall, get back up and pray for forgiveness and strength. What we can not do on our own we can do with Him when we seek Him with all our hearts. I was baptized at 12, but I fell for so long I think its important for me to be re-baptized. I have a much greater understanding now about the love of God, His grace and His commandments.

The Holy Spirit has also led me away from most of TV watching. It's hard to watch a movie these days even PG13 that does not break the 3rd commandment. “You shall not take the name of the LORD your God in vain, for the LORD will not hold him guiltless who takes His name in vain.

A year ago, if someone told me I would barley watch TV, I would not have believed it. Not that I watched a ton of TV but could not fall asleep without it on the background. Now I read the Bible before going to bed. I don't feel like I'm missing anything. When we really seek God He gives us the power for a real transformation.

Do you mean John's baptism or Holy Spirit baptism? See Acts 19 to understand what I'm talking about:

Acts 19:1-7
While Apollos was at Corinth, Paul took the road through the interior and arrived at Ephesus. There he found some disciples 2 and asked them, “Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?” They answered, “No, we have not even heard that there is a Holy Spirit.” 3 So Paul asked, “Then what baptism did you receive?” “John’s baptism,” they replied. 4 Paul said, “John’s baptism was a baptism of repentance. He told the people to believe in the one coming after him, that is, in Jesus.” 5 On hearing this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus. 6 When Paul placed his hands on them, the Holy Spirit came on them, and they spoke in tongues and prophesied. 7 There were about twelve men in all.

Who else can lead you to keep God's Commandments?
You can certainly obey the letter of the Law in Pharisaic fashion, and you don't need the Holy Spirit for that (unless you believe the pharisees were filled with the Holy Spirit -- which would be utterly nonsensical given the level of antagonism the pharisees presented against the ministry of Jesus).

The question for you is, do you know what is the Holy Spirit?

Acts 1:1-8
1 In my former book, Theophilus, I wrote about all that Jesus began to do and to teach 2 until the day he was taken up to heaven, after giving instructions through the Holy Spirit to the apostles he had chosen. 3 After his suffering, he presented himself to them and gave many convincing proofs that he was alive. He appeared to them over a period of forty days and spoke about the kingdom of God. 4 On one occasion, while he was eating with them, he gave them this command: “Do not leave Jerusalem, but wait for the gift my Father promised, which you have heard me speak about. 5 For John baptized with water, but in a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.” 6 Then they gathered around him and asked him, “Lord, are you at this time going to restore the kingdom to Israel?” 7 He said to them: “It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority. 8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

Acts 2:1-4
When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. 2 Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. 3 They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. 4 All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them

Acts 10:17-23
17 Now while Peter was inwardly perplexed as to what the vision that he had seen might mean, behold, the men who were sent by Cornelius, having made inquiry for Simon's house, stood at the gate 18 and called out to ask whether Simon who was called Peter was lodging there. 19 And while Peter was pondering the vision, the Spirit said to him, “Behold, three men are looking for you. 20 Rise and go down and accompany them without hesitation, for I have sent them.” 21 And Peter went down to the men and said, “I am the one you are looking for. What is the reason for your coming?” 22 And they said, “Cornelius, a centurion, an upright and God-fearing man, who is well spoken of by the whole Jewish nation, was directed by a holy angel to send for you to come to his house and to hear what you have to say.” 23 So he invited them in to be his guests.

Yes .... have been gently convicted by the Holy Spirit since my teen years about the 4th commandment .... ignored the conviction for many many MANY years .... decided about 4 years ago to really buckle down and study His word for myself .... learned about the 7th day Sabbath ... found nowhere where it has been abolished, ... Jesus kept it ... the apostles kept it ... prayed about it .... started keeping it .... conviction is gone and am truly blessed by it.

I believe people are being gently convicted about it .... and that's why the question about it keeps coming up all the time. Also, no getting by it's right smack in the middle of the 10 commandments.

So people do question themselves .... I keep .... or do endeavor to keep the other 9 commandments ... so why not that one? Good question people! Listen to the still small voice. ;o)

May the Lord lead. Amen.
