CBS correspondent Bill Whitaker asked: “But there was an historic flood of undocumented immigrants coming across the border the first three years of your administration. As a matter of fact, arrivals quadrupled from the last year of President Trump. Was it a mistake to loosen the immigration policies as much as you did?”​

“It’s a longstanding problem. And solutions are at hand. And from day one, literally, we have been offering solutions,” Harris said.​

Pressed on the record number of crossings and whether more action should’ve been taken sooner, Harris refused to answer, focusing instead on recent action that has resulted in a drastic drop in crossings and putting the onus on Congress to act.​

The vice president avoided answering whether she would support the effort to expand the North Atlantic Treaty Organization, or NATO, to include Ukraine, saying she would “deal with if and when it arrives at that point.”​

He acknowledged making false claims about his military record and about being in Hong Kong during Tiananmen Square unrest. But he said those moments were “expressing emotion, telling a story, getting a date wrong,” as opposed to being “a pathological liar like Donald Trump.”​

Border crossings surged because 1) so many had been detained at the Mexican border for years and 2) the pandemic had devastated the northern Triangle economically. Harris set up procedures allowing people to stay home and apply for asylum at the embassy. What they are doing now is working and would work better had Republicans passed the bipartisan bill.

Admitting the Ukraine to NATO would mean NATO nations could send troops. I think NATO and the U.S. want to hold the line. Russia has lost hundreds of thousands of soldiers (I've read) and huge resources. Hopefully that will thwart Putin's empire building. Putin is an enemy of the free world.

We can be grateful NATO is strong again after being threatened in the past.

Re: Walz. Enough of the swiftboating. A few partisan hacks in the Minnesota Guard can't besmirch 24 years of service. Their claims have been disproven.

Walz and China. Is that the worst scandal you can come up.with? Really? Then his thousands of devoted students and the remarkable success of his leadership on Minnesota must really have you stymied.

Good for 60 minutes for pressing for an answer.

IMO, VP Harris will not anser that question as it may reflect poorly on President Biden. She has been careful not to criticize her current boss while stating what she would do.

Utlimately, the Congress will need pass legislation to update our Asylum laws. Biden's current policy could be overturned by a court....

Walz was on Kimmel last night. Will wonders never cease? As the lunch monitor, he once had to do the Heimlich on a student turning blue who lay choking on the floor.
I listened to Howard Stern Sirius 100 while driving...for the first time ever. He focused a lot on her experience as a DA and a prosecutor, representing families of murder victims and victims of other heinous crimes. Her work with gangs, living with threats to her life. "I decided not to live in fear." In both shows she was genuine, warm, likeable, inspiring confidence.
