  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Hanging out?

Hi, good morn'n, evn'n, whatever, this is an experiment in hanging out. Not the most elegant of expressions but we know what we mean.
As my ancient C.O.D. has it;
hang from window, clothes-line, etc., (cause to) protrude downwards, (sl.) reside or be often present; let it all ~ out, (sl.) be uninhibited; ~-out n., (sl.) place of residence.
Mmm, think there must be a better, more modern definition for what happens here.
Anyway time to make some supper. This experiment will last for about two hours.

Hi; Afisha; how cold does it get there in France this time of year? We here in the great Northwest foothills of the Cascades are getting below freezing and snow on the mountains/hills. By the way; I thought I was the only "oldbie" here at CF but seeings as you got here first I guess your the original one.:D

Whooa! People! Lots of people. Well three. A few more and we'll qualify as a throng.
@ Mnorian - we're in the mid western part of France, less than 2hrs drive from the sea but many hours from any mountains or foot hills. Here we rarely get much snow, mostly a few days rather than weeks. At the moment temperatures are around 8°c night 14 day (45/57°f). I'm not sure I could take a real winter anymore :snowman:.
There certainly are other oldbies around it's just that they are pretending to be Golden Eagles:anguished::smile: I hope they're carrying parachutes.
Will think about something for your "inspirational" thread.

@ miche - Any chance of kiwi photos, maybe some tinsel around their neck? I actually have a kiwi in front of me on my desk. My daughter spent time over there a few years ago and bought back this little wooden feathered friend.

@ look4hope - Hello, good to see you. What are your geographical perspectives? The thread has gone from dead to, things being said. I'm wondering now why I didn't just start hanging out in the coffee shop. Time zones are not conducive to conversational flow are they. There's a mini topic, What's the difference between debate, discussion, conversation and small talk?

Ok enough of this hanging out, better go and look as though I'm doing something. Maybe later.

Translated for the anglais haut-parleurs::D

"I can not believe another French! You are then in Brittany or Normandy! Well, not really my area but I have good memories of (for the little I've seen!). In all cases it is really fun to meet compatriots."

Feel free to do another translation mnorian :thumbsup: Je vois tu connais bien cette langue. A demain.

Quote Afishamongmany:
"I see you know well that language. Until tomorrow."

Wish I could take credit for the translation; but it's part of the browser I use "Slimjet" A Chromium derivative; it is better then some on-line translators.

On your comment of the time difference; its 2pm here and 11pm in France so you must be getting ready to hit the hay; as they used to say; God bless and see you tomorrow; thanks for your poem on my thread.

"Hi dear thehehe, but I'm desolated britanique. We are in the Poitou Charente and you? I see The Little Prince, a gem is not it. Ah ok I saw your profile - Nancy. I hope we can make the time to talk then. But can do in English? Anyway I'm done for tonight. God blessed you with many hehe."

Evening (here) Mnorian, How's life? I'm presuming your retired like me? What did you used to do?
Was impressed by "Slimjet" to start with but I'm certainly not a desolated britanique (well maybe occasionally:swoon:). Should be, "Sorry but I'm British."
Ok I'm hitting the hay early tonight.
Go well

Sorry about the sorry translation, sometimes it gets it and some times not. Yup, I'm retired or is it retarded. Was trained in Microwave communication by the army; but then went into tv repair and cable tv construction after a couple of years in college; should of went into computers, but in the seventies they didn't look like that big a deal; hind sight is 20/20. What was your major preoccupation? Are you in the part of France that speaks mostly English? Peace in Jesus.

Yo Mnorian, happy Friday to you,
No "retarded" is a word that should be struck from the english language. We are the retired, in the waiting room, in the battle, in peace, impatient, the battery is low but still on we glow.

You sound like a useful man to know. My current project is bringing electricity from the house to an outside shed. I've put an underground cable through and I've put another length of tubing in the same trench thinking that later I may run through an ethernet cable. Some say parallel power and communication cables can give problems. Any thoughts?

I was one those 60's dropouts. Work was easy to get in those days, mainly manual, labouring, bit of desk tapping. After coming to The Lord, aged 27, I got myself a diploma in horticulture. So since then I've done a lot of gardening. Raised chicken for a few years. All a bit this and that. As you say, hind sight ah!
Nowhere in France speaks mostly English but there are now a lot of Brits in this region. Probably every other village has at least one specimen.
ok good to talk
go well
