I don't buy that poverty has to create crime. It might if people were starving or in desperate need for things like medicine or clothing etc. But that's not typically what happens. America's poor are not really poor. There are enough services to provide for food and shelter and clothing.

Poverty does not create bad character. Not here at least and I doubt it does in most of the western world.

Those on the left love to think that the poverty in general are like medieval days or the ancient world. In some countries like Mexico or in Africa there is real poverty. No jobs and and no help.

The West has a lot of jobs and spends a lot of money to help the poor. Poor people have cell phones, big screen tvs etc.

Being poor does not create bad character.

I don't normally do this @rjs330 but I wanted to say I genuinely appreciate your civility here. I know we end up agreeing on many things...but not always and certainly not always for the same reasons. We disagree entirely on some issues....partially on others like in post #162.

I don't have to sugar coat my opinions or beliefs just to avoid some string of personal attacks on my character. I know you're not going to do that. All I decide to consider is the possible tone that can be read from my post...because I don't want you to think I'm talking down to you. Agree or disagree, you seem willing to at least consider someone who is trying to communicate an idea clearly.

I just wanted to say that even though that's a pretty rare quality on here, it's not unnoticed. Thank you.

I wasn't thinking that far back. Prior to WWII, American imperialism was alot more crass and blatant. After WWII, the imperialism had to be masked behind loftier ideologies than fighting for agribusiness.

If you want to discuss US imperialism, you have to go that far back. That's the closest the US came to imperialism. Remember learning about Manifest Destiny? By the Philippine Uprising that was already getting old.

Now, I may be reading your post wrong, but the way it's phrased you seem to be arguing that all US wars were imperialist. Perhaps I've made a mistake here. If you're calling US wars after WWII imperialist, then ask yourself why.

Today, companies can gather thousands of data points on a given internet user. Surely you know this.... Smith & Wesson and Daniel Defense can easily target audiences, including teenagers with an interest in the military, guns, etc...

Ok...to be clear then, you're suggesting that these gun manufacturers spent money on social media data to figure out where to advertise so young men, including teenagers, would see those advertisements?


Serious question. I completely missed or misunderstood this point the first time you made it. I don't want to do it again. If that isn't basically the point you were making, please correct me where I'm wrong.
