We have laws to make society possible. The laws should however accomplish their intended purpose.
If they do not, they are stupid laws.
Sure. But what makes you think gun regulations won't accomplish their intended purpose less than any other law does?

In America, there is the 2nd amendment which guarantees individual rights to own firearms. This has been upheld by the SCOTUS. In this sense, any laws that are made are not just impacting criminals, but the law abiding citizens as well. You are oversimplifying a very complicated issue.
If your constitution is broken, change it. It's not holy writ.

Cigarettes are completely legal. No legal case for keeping them low in cost has made it to any court that I know of.

Agreed, but access to cigarettes are not Constitutionaly guaranteed. The 2nd amendment makes firearms ownership a unique right, and the Supreme Court has affirmed it to be an individual right in DC vs. Heller. To introduce technology that forces price increases to an extent that the common man can no longer afford a firearm could be argued to be an unreasonable burden on the private citizens ability to excessive their constitutional right. It would be like limiting the right to free speech to only those who can afford to purchase a venue to speak in.

You are assuming that there is a supermajority of politicians willing to repeal the 2nd amendment and that there is an equal majority of Americans who would support such a thing. To date, neither of those things are true. Since neither are true at this time, the 2nd amendment is still the law of the land in America and there are millions of Americans who do not see it as broken.

And millions who do.

Irrelevant at this point. They are on the opposite side of the current law. This may change someday, but in the near future it is highly unlikely.

Still, though, I agree with JayW. Evil and sin are the real problems here.

I propose that we require all guns be manufactured with
various piezoelectric radio transmitters. This would
be a variety of "nuggets" formed into the barrel and
stock that will emit radio frequency bursts resulting
from shock, vibration, or impact.
This should be required within 5 years. The requirement
would result in development of the needed technology.
What a complicated way to keep track on guns and shooters. Get rid of the guns, make it mandatory to keep guns in a gun safe and bullets in a different location with the gun's firing mechanism separated from the body of the gun and stop selling guns to people who do not have a justifiable reason for having one - hunting and access to hunting lands, professional target shooter and such.

If we criminalize the illegal use of guns, that will help.
Same for knives if you wish.

the CBP (customs border patrol) already tried to rewrite the definition of a folding knife that used gravity inertia to deploy the blade ( thumb stud) as a switch blade to make it illegal suddenly in half the US. knife rights.org fought a huge legal battle to overrule that. the problem is not with the weapon of choice, but the mentality of the people perpetrating the crime.

No. People killing people with guns is the real problem here.

You prefer people killing people with bombs, trucks, knives and airplanes, then? How about scaring and disfiguring people with acid? The problem here is the heart of man. You can take away every possible weapon you can think of, and people will still die violent deaths at the hands of evil people.

Guns have always been a part of American culture, yet “mass shootings” are a recent phenomenon. This is not a technology issue either, as semi automatic weapons have been around for over 100 years. Their are fewer households with guns now then there was then. Kids used to actually bring guns to school so they could hunt on their way home. Mass shootings were almost unheard of. So, what has changed?

Society gets more and more secular and violent everyday. Children are raised with violence as entertainment in video games and movies. They are taught that life is nothing more than a series of random processes and they are no better than animals. They learn that life only has meaning when it is convenient. God and objective morality is something to be mocked, not revered. Is it any wonder that we se such horrible acts of evil today?

Clinging to guns as the source of the problem is naive.

Rather than be disingenuous, let's focus on the tool that is easily available, explicitly for the purpose of killing, and easy to use, shall we?

Don't take my word for it. Go look up "history of mass shootings". I don't think it's a recent as all that.

Further, if the things you blame are, in fact, to blame, how come regular mass shootings only seems to be a problem in the US?

You realize that criminals would just modify their guns to not have this, right?

The transponders are formed into the gun parts.
And most who kill innocent people are real stupid.
Sorry, if you are one reading this.

i heard someone say that you cant legislate murder, which is true, even if something as draconian as seizing all guns were to happen, which is impossible, there will be knives, (lets not even begin to wonder how taking all those away will be feasible);
and even still, if no knives, then, sticks and stones. point is, murder is murder, it has nothing to do with what is being used, it has everything to do with whats in your heart ---
Matthew 5:21-26 " murder begins in the heart"

Yes but the issue being discussed is, although it may start in the heart, it far too frequently finishes with a bullet. Look if the people of the usa dont even believe they have a problem, then Las Vegas will happen again which is why.... in the last 72 hrs.... another 80 have been shot dead and 218 injured.... not hit with sticks or stones.... shot! What you do about it is your country's business but dont sell those looking from the outside that guns arent the issue.

Absolutely, positively true. What happened in Las Vegas was horrible, and while I would never seek to diminish the loss of 58 lives, that is far less than the number of babies murdered in the womb on average every hour of every day here in the United States...and our government has labeled that a right. We don't have a gun problem, we have a sin problem.
