No, you cant. Its subconsious. Thats the power of it and of commercials.

If they were easily ignorable, then nobody would pay for such commercials or songs.

Our brain is not made to ignore sounds that carry a message that rhymes, thats why they do it.
When you hum to yourself, concentrate on your task at hand it’s quite easy. Personally, I’m not worried about elevator music or ‘Girls Just Wanna Have Fun’ playing in the background at the grocery store. I won’t debate here as it is not allowed here. Stuff some cotton balls in your ears if it’s a huge concern.

I have a question....I know that wordly music is unpleasing to the Lord, so how should one shop when almost all stores play worldly music in them? Should we still shop in these stores?
You didn't request the music, Jennifer, and I doubt that you pay much attention to the music as you go about your shopping, so no, you aren't offending.

Of course you would feel better about the whole thing if you shopped in a comparable store that didn't play music, but that's probably not something that's readily available.

So? Just don't keep thinking about it after you heard it. As Paul already said, "we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ" (2 Cor 10:5). Control your thoughts and don't let them control you.
I do not want to wage psychological wars when I want to buy a milk. Thats the point of this thread, I suppose.

The point is not "how to beat it".

Edit: did not notice this is "advice" forum section, so I am the one who is wrong.

Everyone needs to seek out their own salvation with fear and trembling. If worldly music is bothersome to you while you're shopping then wear earbuds; do grocery pick-up; order online; only shop at quiet stores; ask friends or family who are unbothered by the music to go into stores for you.

I tune grocery store music out as much as I can, because I don't like it.

Do you hear lyrics that legitimately make you struggle when you go to the store?

Ignore the music, you need to learn to not be upset by lousy music. I had to work a job once where they were playing explicit music and while it was irritating I just ignored it sometimes I play music I like in my head instead.

valid points but I'm more focus on the lost inside then the lost songs.

John Lennon's 'Imagine' is satanic to the core, especially this bit-
"Imagine there's no heaven
It's easy if you try
No hell below us
Above us, only sky"

You ARE kidding, I hope...

Nope..:)
Anybody who says there's no heaven or hell is being used as a mouthpiece by satan.
Lennon was also lead vocal on 'I'm a Loser' which is very apt.
George Harrison was another bad example, he rejected Jesus and went with that 'Harry Krishna' stuff, and when he died his ashes were slung in the "sacred" river Ganges, he's a real Nowhere Man now.

Where I live the music either isn't played loudly or I'm too focused on shopping to notice it. At any rate, I wouldn't overthink it. Songs that get played in grocery stores are rarely that terrible.

Oh- come on. How is this even serious? If this is real- then it is scrupulosity. Go grocery shopping. You aren't hearing any music there that will send you to hell. When you sin it's when you act on temptations. Being confronted by potential temptations is not a sin.

No..just seeking advice..
Then there's no problem. Hearing music in passing that non-Christians make, even that anti-Christians make, isn't going to harm you if you're not hearing lyrics that take you to a bad place in your mind.

The song doesn't say "...there's no heaven or hell." The song says, "IMAGINE...".

The whole point of the song is about ridding the world of things that people fight over so there can be peace. People fight over heaven and hell...religion...possessions...hunger... greed...

That's all Lennon was trying to do.
