Surely you jest. "The Proximal Origin of SARS-CoV-2", published early in the pandemic, guided by Dr. Fauci and referred to repeatedly throughout the pandemic, said this in its conclusion:

However, since we observed all notable SARS-CoV-2 features, including the optimized RBD and polybasic cleavage site, in related coronaviruses in nature, we do not believe that any type of laboratory-based scenario is plausible.
Of course there were good reasons to suspect natural / wet market origins. They didnt just make all that up.

What I objected to was how strongly they dismissed the competing hypothesis, even if at the time it looked a bit weaker.

I don't want to take this thread off-topic, but that's just not true. If you're interested, the receipts are all here.

In early 2020, top scientists told Anthony Fauci they were concerned that SARS-CoV-2 appeared potentially “engineered.” Here’s a look at what happened next.
...
On the question of whether the virus had a natural origin or came from some sort of accidental lab release, Farrar reported that Farzan was “70:30” or “60:40” in favor of an “accidental-release” explanation and that “Bob”—an apparent reference to Robert Garry—was also surprised by the presence of a furin cleavage site in this virus. Farrar quoted Bob saying: “I just can’t figure out how this gets accomplished in nature…. t’s stunning.”

They don't seem to have done a very good job with you.

It's time for the Berniecrats to take over. Conservatives have gotten away with lying about what socialism is, what capitalism is, for too long and the Democrats have to let them because they are neolibs, too, just like the Republicans.
Yep. Go for it.

Yes, people were canceled and Chinese scientists went missing for merely suggesting that the virus came from the Huhan Lab. "That is a MAGA right wing conspiracy" they said. "Follow the science" they said. Hunter's laptop is Russian misinformation" they said. "Joe's worst day is better than Donald's best day" they said. "The vaccines will stop transmission" they said. "Epstine hung himself" they said.

I think it is really funny how these washed up octigarian rock stars who made millions writing songs about not trusting the government are now their biggest mouthpiece and advocates.

Were you saying that in 2020?
I was saying it about lab leak as soon as I was aware of 2 possible origins. Dismissing the lab leak out of hand seemed political and frankly idiotic.

Re Joe, probably not. He did fine in debates and similar settings during the 2020 run. I really resented him breaking his 1 term promise later on tho. What a fiasco.

In all fairness, you did have one of the more reasonable positions about the topic at the time.

Thanks. Im surprised you remember.
Well, truthfully I forgot. It wasn't until I went back into the ancient archives in the basement of 2020 that I found our previous conversations on the topic. You were one of the extremely few liberals who were at least open to the possibility of a Wuhan lab leak when "the science was settled" about contaminated bats in the wet market.

Seems like forever ago.
