Do you believe the Trinity (Godhead) to be three distinct persons in unity only (kind of like a family unit)?
Or do you believe the Trinity (Godhead) to be defined as “He exists as three distinct persons and yet He is one God in substance (Meaning that He literally is one God, mathematically speaking)”?

I believe just as the Nicene Creed states regarding the nature and relationship between the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.

Nicene Creed of 381 AD (From: Creeds of Christendom Vol 1, Sec. 8, P. 29)

We believe in one God, the Father Almighty, Maker of heaven and earth, and of all things visible and invisible.

And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, begotten of the Father before all ages (æons), Light of Light, very God of very God, begotten, not made, being of one substance with the Father; by whom all things were made; who for us men, and for our salvation, came down from heaven, and was incarnate by the Holy Ghost of the Virgin Mary, and was made man; he was crucified for us under Pontius Pilate, and suffered, and was buried, and the third day he rose again, according to the Scriptures, and ascended into heaven, and sitteth on the right hand of the Father; from thence he shall come again, with glory, to judge the quick and the dead; whose kingdom shall have no end.

And in the Holy Ghost, the Lord and Giver of life, who proceedeth from the Father, who with the Father and the Son together is worshiped and glorified, who spake by the prophets.

In one holy catholic and apostolic Church; we acknowledge one baptism for the remission of sins; we look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.”

John 4:22 (WEB) You worship that which you don’t know. We worship that which we know; for salvation is from the Jews.
Christians will be worshipped (Revelation 3:9)
Thank you for Revelation 3:9. You really helped me in my study of the word “worship.”
Other translations say, "Bow down." So in this instance in Scripture, this would be obeisance (homage) to man and not reverence and adoration of God.

This means that the word “worship” (like the word “repent”) has multiple definitions or meanings, and it is the context that determines its definition or use. In Revelation 3:9, Christians are not worshiped as the true God or regarded as divine beings. They are merely being reverenced or honored. However, this brings up a great contrasting point at another place in Revelation on the topic of worship.

John said,

”I fell down to worship before the feet of the angel which shewed me these things.
Then saith he unto me, “See thou do it not: for I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren the prophets, and of them which keep the sayings of this book: worship God.” (See: Revelation 22:8-9).

So as we can see here, the angel does not accept worship, and the angel encourages John to worship God. So obviously, worship is being used differently here in Revelation 22:8-9 vs. Revelation 3:9. There is a form of worship that is not acceptable or a different kind of worship.

Therefore, I can make a case now that when Jesus said, “…we know what we worship…” and if we are to take this to possibly mean He is talking about how He also worships the Father, we can safely say (if such an interpretation is true) that Jesus worships or reverences the Father differently than His fellow Jews.

How so?

Well, because Jesus is God.

Jesus would revere God the Father as the head of the triune Godhead or Trinity.
Jesus is one with the Father.
Jesus is called the Lord from Heaven (See: 1 Corinthians 15:47).
But Jesus would not worship the Father exactly like us because our Lord is unlike us (Seeing He is God).
Jesus could not revere the Father as the Creator because Jesus is the Creator.
Jesus could not revere the Father as the Savior because Jesus is the Savior.
Jesus could not revere the Father as the sole Ruler of all things because Jesus has power and authority of His own as God.

Those who worshipped Jesus, while he was on earth, did not express any belief that Jesus himself was Creator and God, and Lord Jesus had not yet revealed that to them who worshipped him. By their own words, they believed Jesus was either the prophet, or Messiah, so someone who was sent from God.
This was not always so.

”And Thomas answered and said unto him, My Lord and my God.” (John 20:28).

Even the demons did not address Lord Jesus as "God;" but rather as the "Holy One" of God.
In Matthew 8:29, they called Jesus the Son of God.
A Son is the same substance as the Father.
Therefore, they were saying Jesus is God.

John 17:3 (WEB) 3 This is eternal life, that they should know you, the only true God, and him whom you sent, Jesus Christ.
And Jesus also is called the true God, as well.

“…and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life.” (1 John 5:20).

So that does not help you.

1 Corinthians 8:6 (WEB) 5 For though there are things that are called “gods”, whether in the heavens or on earth; as there are many “gods” and many “lords”; 6 yet {{{to us}}} there is one God, the Father, of whom are all things, and we for him; and one Lord, Jesus Christ, through whom are all things, and we live through him.
Yes, there is only one God, the Father. There are not two of them. God the Father (head of the hierarchy of the Godhead or Trinity) is unique and beautiful. This does not negate the fact that Jesus is also God and the second person of the Godhead.

King David and others were worshipped. [See: 1 Samuel 24:8; 1 Samuel 25:23; 1 Samuel 25:41; 2 Samuel 1:2; 2 Samuel 9:6; 2 Samuel 14:22; 2 Samuel 14:33 2 Samuel 16:4; 2 Samuel 18:28; 2 Samuel 24:20; 1 kings 1:16, 1 Kings 1:23; 2 Kings 2:15; 1 Chronicles 21:21; Isaiah 60:14; Ruth 2:10.]
I am aware that kings were given obeisance.
This is not the same thing when a person worships God, though (As I am sure you would agree).

You are refuting yourself by bringing up John 10:34, and I am not sure why you keep bringing that up. Only the Father is the one God. The Word of God (the Logos) was made to be a man-servant of the only true God the Father.

Thank you. That is a good explanation to a certain extent. But Jesus does use John 10:34 as an excuse to escape from the hands of the Jews (after He stated a claim to "deity"). So Jesus is giving validity to the statement, "ye are gods."

The Father is Redeemer and Savior that he accomplishes through the Son. And that is why Lord Jesus is Savior of the world.

Lord Jesus was appointed, given, inherited the right to rule as man - the Son of David.
  • As a man, Lord Jesus inherits a better name (Hebrews 1:4; Philippians 2:9-11),
  • As a man, is made to be Christ and Lord over all (Acts 2:36),
  • As a man, he is given eternal life as the Son of David (Luke 1:30-35; John 5:26),
  • As a man, he is given, by the Father, rulership over all things on David’s throne forever as a man (Luke 1:30-35; Psalms 89:34-37; Acts 2:29-36; Isaiah 9:6-7; Psalms 132:11).
  • As a man-servant of God his Father, Lord Jesus depended on the Father for everything – the words he spoke (John 14:10), the miracles and works he did (John 5:36), the things he knew (John 8:28), are all from the Father to his man-servant and son Lord Jesus - as a man.
I every way, Lord Jesus is that obedient servant of God the Father - the only true God.

John 17:3 (WEB) 3 This is eternal life, that they should know you, the only true God, and him whom you sent, Jesus Christ.

In Summary: The incarnate Word, Lord Jesus, lived as a humble servant of God his Father. Lord Jesus by his obedient and submissive life to God his Father, he expressed the purist form of worship that any man could ever give God the Father.

To say that the pure devotion, obedient, and total submission Lord Jesus gave to his Father is not worship when he does it, but is only worship when we do it, is hypocritical.

Everything Lord Jesus said and did as a humble servant of God on earth was all from the Father.

Jesus was made Lord by the Father (Acts 2:36)

The Father gave Jesus to have life in himself:

John 5:26-27 (WEB) 26 For as the Father has life in himself, even so he gave to the Son also to have life in himself. 27 He also gave him authority to execute judgment, because he is a Son of Man.

All things that Lord Jesus said and did was from the Father.

John 5:36 (WEB) 36 But the testimony which I have is greater than that of John, for the works which the Father gave me to accomplish, the very works that I do, testify about me, that the Father has sent me.

John 8:26 (WEB) 26 I have many things to speak and to judge concerning you. However he who sent me is true; and the things which I heard from him, these I say to the world.”

John 12:49 (WEB) 49 For I spoke not from myself, but the Father who sent me, he gave me a commandment, what I should say, and what I should speak

John 8:28-29 (WEB) 28 Then said Jesus unto them, When ye have lifted up the Son of man, then shall ye know that I am he, and that I do nothing of myself; but as my Father hath taught me, I speak these things.
29 And he that sent me is with me: the Father hath not left me alone; for I do always those things that please him.

John 8:42 (WEB) 42 Therefore Jesus said to them, “If God were your father, you would love me, for I came out and have come from God. For I haven’t come of myself, but he sent me.

John 10:37 (WEB) 37 If I don’t do the works of my Father, don’t believe me. 38 But if I do them, though you don’t believe me, believe the works, so that you may know and believe that the Father is in me, and I in the Father.”

That is quite an admission from you, especially after saying that Lord Jesus had his own authority and powers that he demonstrated.

You did write as follows:

Do you believe Jesus had ZERO divine powers of His own during His earthly ministry?
Meaning, do you believe Jesus only did miracles by the Father and Spirit only and He was totally incapable of doing a miracle Himself?
Yes, if I understood you correctly, there was one verse I did not catch before that you appeared to be reading the wrong way (Which is John 5:26). You seem to be proposing that you believe that the Father gave Jesus life (eternal life) in the sense that Jesus did not have any life before. If that is what you are suggesting, that is not what that verse is saying. John 1:4 says that Jesus had "life" even in His eternal state as the Logos (or Word). Here is a translation that helps to clarify John 5:26 better.

John 5:26 (ERV)
"Life comes from the Father himself. So the Father has also allowed the Son to give life."

Confusion can arise if a person places their Modern understanding on the archaic word "given" as used in the KJB (Which was the bible used for hundreds of years and influenced later translations). The Greek word is "δίδωμι" (didōmi) which can also mean "grant."

John 5:26 (ESV) says,
"For as the Father has life in himself, so he has granted the Son also to have life in himself."

If you were to go to the Webster's 1913 Dictionary, it has the definition: "to allow" or "allowance," or "permission" listed in its third definition.

So God the Father allowed (or gave permission for) the Son to have life in Himself.
John 5:26 does not mean Jesus was receiving eternal life for the first time.
That would suggest He is not eternally God, and that is heretical.

Amen.”

[Philip Schaff: Creeds of Christendom, with a History and Critical notes. Volume I. The History of Creeds. - Christian Classics Ethereal Library]

Sorry, the creed does not address my questions.

Anyways, I take your reply here as an evasion of my questions, and this potentially means that you may not believe God is one in substance but that He is simply one in unity (Which is Tritheism). Is this true?

Do you believe in Tritheism or three gods who act in unity?

I'm not even disagreeing with you, I was just in agreement with you actually that Jesus did maintain power as God on Earth, but possibly not omniscience.
Grace and peace be unto you in the name of Jesus Christ.

I believe just as the Nicene Creed States. Read it, because it clearly and plainly answers your questions, even though you deny that it does.

I could not improve on the Nicene Creed if I tried, except to provide the Scriptures that show the Nicene Creed teaches correctly, even as to the nature and relationship of God as a Triune being. The simplicity, efficiency, and accuracy of the Nicene Creed amazes me. If you can read the Nicene Creed and walk away feeling that it teaches Tritheism, then you are not reading it, but rather, reinterpreting or ignoring what it plainly states in context, which is what you appear to be doing with the Scriptures as well.

Regarding the 160 quotes you referenced and commented on, you have to remember that almost all of those quotes have to do with the authority and power that God the Father gave to, and accomplished through, the Son of Man while on earth. Lord Jesus was God the Father's representative on earth as a man - the Son of Man. Therefore, most of those quotes provide no evidence, in itself, that Lord Jesus is "God." There are Scriptures that do teach that Lord Jesus is in very nature God, but you have not provided them in most of your 160 quote references.

Of the 160 quotes you referenced, the ones that clearly show that Lord Jesus is by nature God are as follows:

Philippians 2:6; Hebrews 1:2-3; Colossians 1:16-17; John 1:3; Colossians 2:9; 2 Corinthians 5:19; Micah 5:2; Hebrews 7:3

All the other quote references you provided, in and of themselves, can also be understood, grammatically and contextually, to mean that God is the Father who accomplishes these great things through His man-servant, Jesus, whom the Father made to be Lord, King, Judge, and Heir over all things in heaven and earth. Consider that God did mighty works through Moses as well, and God made Moses to be "God" before Pharaoh, and also to be that Savior of Israel as God's chosen vessel for that purpose.

Consider that Joseph was given all the authority, power, honor, and glory of Pharaoh himself, acting as Pharaoh before the people of Egypt, being also given the signet ring of Pharaoh. Yes, that did not make Joseph to be the actual "Pharaoh," but rather, to represent Pharaoh in every way before the people of Egypt. In this way, Joseph became savior of both Egypt and Israel at that time.

Considering both Moses and Joseph, is it any stretch of the imagination to think that Lord Jesus, as a man-servant of God the Father, cannot also receive authority, power, honor, and glory over all things, and which is actually what the Scriptures are teaching?

Therefore, most of the 160 quotes you referenced cannot be used to show Jesus is God by nature except for the ones I listed above. All the other quotes can mean, or be understood as, something else grammatically and contextually.
