You hear it all the time. People claim that God didnt ordain or allow this negative relationship or marriage or car accident or insert X problem and "negative" thing here. But the truth of the matter is? There are a LOT of "negative" things that God ordained and planned for in not just your life, but in the lives of EVERYONE who has ever walked this planet or ever will. Whether it's being in an abusive marriage to choosing to give to a charity God planned for and ordained ALL ot it and everything that comes to pass in all of our lives. Like it or not, God is completely in control of not even our lives but everything that happens and everything that is alive. Ever notice the four seasons usually come at just the right time every year? Even the weather obeys Gods perfect will. Or the planets happen to revolve around the sun perfectly? That didnt happen just out of nothing. Or how each and every cell and molecular thing move perfectly according to Gods sovereignty and will? Even Satan who rebelled and turned against God forever needs permission from God before he can do a single action.

If you believe God isn't sovereign or completely in control of all things than you're basically an athiest. Because without his sovereignty and power there can be no God and atheists finally have indisputable proof that God doesnt exist. Why? Well for one the Bible says that God is ALL powerful and his kingdom rules over ALL (Psalm 103:19), the Bible says that God is in control of ALL things (Psalm 135:6) that God controls the steps of man as well and that man does it (Proverbs 16:9), and that each and every day, step, and action of our lives were planned out by God (Psalm 115:3, & Psalm 139:16). If the Bible lies or is contradictory than God ddnt write it and they're just writings of plain old men.

For God to make a mistake or to not have control over the lives of everything that exists would completely remove his power and sovereignty and that would mean that not only does he not exist but that atheism is correct and there is no God. For God to exist he has to rule over ALL because hes the ruler and creator of ALL things. Why else is it mans natural instinct to worship something? Whether Its TV, Justin Beiber or the latest signing craze, Donald Trump, or *insert X Idol here*. ANYTHING can become an idol if you spend more time with it than God or love it more than God.

It is coded into our DNA to serve God. Like it or not, Christian's are given eternal life to serve and have a personal relationship with God. Do you honestly think that we can be given sinless bodies to never worship or serve God? No! Because not serving God is sin! The bible is chuc full of this from prophet to apostle. The reason we exist and the why of why we're here is to worship and serve God! We serve God to earn his praise in the next life and the next life will involve bowing down to to and doing everything that God commands us to do while having a personal relationship with him! But that doesnt excuse the fact that we will serve and worship the almighty and all powerful creator that created us from the beginning for the sole purpose to not only serve him and do his will but to also have an eternal relationship with him. Forever!

Idc what you say, God is control of EVERYTHING and he NEVER makes a mistake. If something "bad" is in your life it's because God put it there for a greater purpose of good. You may not see it now, but you will.

First: would your understanding of God’s power allow God the ability to grant to some humans some very limited autonomous free will choices?

If God does have this power to give and if there was a huge wonderful Loving reason for God to grant some very limited free will to a person is God’s Love great enough to allow God to allow others this freedom to choose?

How is it God’s mistake to allow other to make a choice that could help them, yet can be made to not help them?

If God is doing “everything” and it is all being done perfectly is anything being done wrong?

Did satan get God’s permission to rebel against God?

Did Adam and Eve get God’s permission to eat from the tree of knowledge?

The Bible says that God is almighty. Aside from interventions with individuals such as Paul it also portrays humans as making decisions and being responsible. With a couple of exceptions (maybe Isaiah 45:7, depending upon exegesis), it doesn't say that God makes evil happen.

It's hard to hold these things together, but I think we need to do so.

Couldn't it be that God allows some things to happen but doesn't necessarily cause them to happen?
On the GotQuestions website, it says:
"The fact that God is sovereign essentially means that He has the power, wisdom, and authority to do anything He chooses within His creation. Whether or not He actually exerts that level of control in any given circumstance is actually a completely different question." They go on to say "The cartoon version of sovereignty depicts a God who must do anything that He can do, or else He is not truly sovereign. Of course, such a cartoonish view of God’s sovereignty is logically false."

I agree because, for example, if God’s sovereignty was the cause of unbelievers rejecting Him and their refusal to repent then how could they be rightly judged and punished for all eternity? Another example would be if God caused satan and the demons to fall, again then how could He rightly punish them as well.

That's an attractive position, but there are some difficulties.

If God can forsee exactly what is going to happen, or if he is outside of time (in which case it's not exactly forseeing, but he can still see the long-term consequences of anything), then when he creates the world, and when he does things like being present with people, he knows exactly what will happen. In some sense that makes him responsible for all the results, since if he doesn't like the results, he has the ability to avoid them by doing something else.

Even if he chooses to allow us room to make choices on our own, I think you can show that this conflicts with the combination of total foreknowledge and middle knowledge. (Middle knowledge is knowing what the result would be of any decision.)

As a result I find it hard to come up with a concept of God that avoids having him responsible for evil actions, without limiting foreknowledge. The limit could be built into reality. Perhaps the future is inherently unpredictable (e.g. because of inherent randomness, as in quantum mechanics). Then it might not be a limit on God. But that would rule out God being outside time, which makes it hard to see how he could have created space-time.

In my opinion there are no real alternatives other than God being responsible for all choices including evil ones, or something like open theism.

I accept compatibilism, so I think God can be responsible for all actions, but that humans can be fully responsible for their own choices at the same time. I'm just not convinced that this is Biblical.

The other alternative, open theism, can't be discussed here. It would have to be dealt with in Controversial Christian Theology.

A couple of years ago someone pointed out that there is a third possibility. While God can't be entirely limited to our space-time, since he created it, it's possible that the space within which he exists has something like time. In that case the future might not have happened even for him, and it's possible that the future is inherently unpredictable even for him. I have concerns about how that works with general relativity, but it might provide a solution. It’s still not entirely orthodox though, since it denies full foreknowledge.

Greetings Neostarwcc,
I am sorry I disagree with you. God is not willing that any should perish, but that all would come to repentance.

Yes God wishes the repentance of all mankind. But that doesnt mean that all mankind will come to him and repent. God knew the actions of all mankind and THAT is what God is in control of and made plans for. Unless you're saying that God isn't all knowing?

Just because God desires all of mankind to repent and come to Christ doesnt mean that God knows who wont and who will. That's one possible theory that mankind has come up with. I personally think it's only partially true. It is a mystery that mankind will never fully understand. How God wants the salvation of all kind yet, not all of mankind will be saved.

Another example of this very topic is predestination. Nobody quite knows EXACTLY how predestination works each and every denomination has a different view of it but there are two things that are true and undeniable facts of scripture. One God hardens the hearts of the wicked (Romans 9:18, John 12:40 & Psalm 81:12) two nobody can (or will) come to God for salvation unless God the Father unhardens our hearts and gives us to the son and draws the person being saved (John 6:44). God at the same time also wants the salvation of all mankind. So you can say in essence all of mankind can be saved by Christs sacrifice.

Now God might harden the hearts of men for two reasons. One he knew from his foreknowledge that this particular individual will NEVER repent so it's a permanent hardening of their hearts. Or two he chose people for heaven and for hell despite at the same time wishing all would come to him in repentance. I think the first option is more likely but humanity will never know. Either option is completely 100% just and merciful.

Dont forget, its Gods right to do whatever he wishes with mankind. We are a wicked and evil race and ALL deserve punishment. Even if he only chose to save one person in all of humanity he still would be called a merciful God in the end. He could punish us all and not commit one sin. He could turn us all into gravy and still be just he could strike us all dead at this very moment and leave us dead for all eternity if he wishes. He created us and is our God so he can do whatever he wants with his creation.

The only thing that God cannot do is go against his word. Every promise in his word has been and will be fulfilled. There isn't one single lie or contradiction in his word because he is an all knowing and sovereign God who is in complete control of everything that exists in or ever will exist. He literally is the most powerful thing that exists (or will exist) and can do ANYTHING.

God COULD save all of mankind and still not sin. It is Gods choice not to save all. He wants the salvation of all but if all dont go through the "door" all of mankind cannot be saved. It is impossible because God has provided only one sacrifice for our sins and only one way for our sins to be forgiven. Whether he died for the elect or the whole world he promises eternal life for his followers. And he promises that no fall will EVER happen again. It's a mystery, but its truth.

Actually, I just had a second thought. Those who refused to listen to Noah and get on the arc were completely wiped out. It was a "preview" if you will of Gods future plan of salvation. Take Gods only way of salvation, or perish. Those people God called cursed and will go to the lake of fire. God called Judas "without hope". So it does make you think that God chose who would be saved and who wouldnt. Which sounds unfair to us in our sinful bodies but one day when we're made perfect we probably will see it as just. As even Isaiah prophesied that even the wicked who "perish" will call God just and worship him one new moon to the other.

Indeed. Peter makes the same connection:

"... because they formerly did not obey, when God's patience waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was being prepared, in which a few, that is, eight persons, were brought safely through water. Baptism, which corresponds to this, now saves you, not as a removal of dirt from the body but as an appeal to God for a good conscience, through the resurrection of Jesus Christ ..." (1 Peter 3:20-21).

Yea I understand what you saying, however if you Saint of God will pray and ask God to unharden someone's heart and ask God to save perhaps He will. Prayer and Supplication be made for all men even women.

Not sure if that one is supposed to be Molinism or Armnianism.

Oh no! To say that would make us robots. However God knows our actions and he places good and bad things into our lives based o mbv those actions. God planned each and every day of our lives based on those actions.

Like for example when we graduate college for the first time (or high school if you're like me and flunked out of college but that was all Gods plan) when we meet our spouses for the first time (dont care how abusive they get later on when we first meet them ALL of us are happy and filled with joy)

When we have our first child..etc. Those are all examples of good blessings that came from God. Everything about us including our talents and unique appearances and individuality (not to mention fingerprints and DNA) are all unique to us and are gifts from God. There isn't one human being that has ever walked or ever will walk exactly the same.

God loved to give all of us talents and enjoys the moments that hes allowed us to use them all. He cries with us, laughs with us and is literally present with us all the moments of our lives.

But God also places sometimes really negative things that makes us wonder if God really is in control. He is literally and it's exactly according to plan.

My many sins and my extremely evil actions before I came to Christ were all part of Gods plan. He didnt cause or tell me to sin but he KNEW the sins I would commit and used them as "ammo" if you will in my conversion.

He used my worst psychotic episode ever to prove to me that I couldnt just rely on him for medical treatment but that I did in fact have to take my medicines.

Just... so many unique experiences in all of our lives that God planned for.

I have grown in my understanding of what you are saying, but might go further in some areas. In the story of the rich man and Lazarus, God Loves both of them and this story fits a lot of what we see today.

Lazarus did not rebel, try to steal, and showed no contempt for the rich man so he did his “job” perfectly. God Loved the rich man so much that God provided the very best opportunity for the rich man to experience Godly type Love every day of his life by tripping over Lazarus. It would have been wonderful for both the rich man and Lazarus if the rich man had shown and experienced compassion for Lazarus, but he did not. It has to be hard on God who provides all these wonderful opportunities at the cost of hurting His children for a time and have children refuse to cease these opportunities.

Yes, like Lazarus we can be setup by God to help others, but it is still our choice.

We put lots of stock in our choice of a spouse, job, children, home and so on, when God is interested in how we handle wherever we find ourselves.

Bless you friend, correct me if I’m wrong here but are you advocating the doctrines of Calvin? Specifically the doctrines of total depravity and unconditional election? If so then I would politely disagree with these statements you made.

Do you believe that God is powerful enough to give us free will?

So, God ordains baby rape and it's for a "greater purpose of good?"
