-50... that's nothin ;)

I lived in Saskatchewan for 6 years... in a small town outside of Regina.. called Moose Jaw. One morning, it was -75 with the windchill. something like -42 without... bloody rediculous if you ask me.. and there was still school that day.. now I laugh at the people here in toronto who complain about -15 :D (my girlfriend being one of them.. she grew up in India and Egypt... poor girl...

I lived in Moose Jaw for a couple years (when I was like 2) and I have pics of me bundled up in a very bulky snowsuit with my eyelashes turned into icicles on the way to preschool! I'm glad I don't have to go through that anymore - But I wish we still lived in that house - a beautiful early-1900's house with stained glass in every room! I'm in TO now, and it's true - people complain about the silliest things sometimes (but not everyone does - there is some hardy stock out here - probably mostly transplants thought ;) ) Kudos to you for putting up with the prairie cold!

Ohhhhhh myyyyy goodness. I'm heading to Whisler this Saturday. I realize that's a different area, but all this Canada weather talk is scaring this Southern California girl!!

You will drive by my house on your way to Whistler. It was warm here today and sunny. This morning everything was covered in an ice capsule from the freezing rain yesterday, but it has melted now.

I'm north of Drumheller on a farm. In the middle of calving season right now, so instead of whining from inside my house ;) , I get to spend most of my time out in it. I work night shifts, and spend most of those long dark hours babysitting cows... . Count yer blessin's.

Been there, done that. However for the last few years we've made sure that our cattle don't start calving this early but in April and May instead. :)

Could you have some hot chocolate waiting as I drive by?

Note - I have a strong feeling your definition of "warm" and mine are very different. I feel abused if it gets below 50!

I should move back to Ontario... Actually I'm from North West Ontario, so it's no better there... Yup, prairies are fun! Nice windy, windy fields of nothingness.
Hey, were 'bouts in Northwestern Ontario ??

When i was a youngin' back in the 60's i lived in Kenora - it sure got cold there. Some nights SO cold we had to leave the tap running just a bit so the pipes wouldn't freeze and burst:eek:

Boy, those were the days....................

I've lived in Dryden(10 yrs.), Fort Frances(7 yrs.), Sioux Lookout(a few months for work), Atikokan(born in), and Marithon(a few months as a tottler). I'm very familiar with Kenora(I suppose I've sort of lived there...I was conceived there)! It's such a fun place. My mom is from Statton and went to High School in Rainy River. I'm extremly familiar with NWOntario.

A couple days ago when it was -52, I did a little *experiment* - if you throw a cup of cold water up into the air when it's this cold, it freezes before it hits the ground and kinda shatters in its own way. Try it, but, be careful... I tried it again today, but it wasn't quite as cold, and now there is a patch of ice in front of the back door from where it formed a puddle. It was a little stupid, heh heh...
p.s. - from winnipeg...

I just got back form my week in Whistler. It was absolutely beautiful! And that drive from Vancouver to Whistler is breathtaking. You live in a beautiful area. And guess what - I didn't freeze to death!! Amazing what enough layers will do. ;)

Hey the title to this topic is from a Sam Roberts song.....that guy rocks my socks! There must be something in the air, in the airrrr....yeah it's frozen water, whether from the clouds or all of us trying to see if our cup of cold water can turn into insta-ice the moment we chuck it !! Doesn't work here in Vancouver though... yeah right it wasn't just me who tried it!
was it? ( jus kid'n) :help:

....same with me in Northern Ontario. I'd never lived more then a few blocks from my school, until my 4th year of University. Snow days were always fun though, because the majority of the students wouldn't be there. I remember in my Jr. high, one of the guys used to bring his Sega Genesis into school and we'd have day long Evander Holyfield Boxing and NHL '93 tournaments. It was pretty fun.
