  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Well, just went to my first MW clinic today, and aside from DD acting like she was high on something (I am so embarrassed about her behaviour but I guess that is another story) after describing some of the problems I have been having with light headedness and feel faint and tired, the MW wants me to go straight to the glucose tolerance test, (the 3 hr one, not the standard one they send most preg women too).

So I'm freaking out. I've never had any form of diabetes, no one in my faimly has ever had any form of diabetes, I am not overweight, but I do eat a lot of junk and don't exercise....

I'm just worried. I don't have the test now until next week. But I'm freaking out about it.

There is a chance that I don't have it, but she doesn't want to waste time on the basic test...and put me through two tests if it is high.

So maybe I should think about my diet now? I just don't really know what to do.

I mean I really want to know if I have it, it isn't like I want to bury my head in the sand, I don't want to put my baby at risk....

And I spose it will give me the kick in the pants that I need to eat better.

Does anyone have it or has had it? Any advice??

When I went in for my glucose test, the doctor explained to me that if they only tested the people they would think were at high risk for it (over weight, family history, poor eating habits, etc.), they would fail to diagnose and treat about 50% of gestational diabetes early. I knew one gal who is a bicyclists and in perfect health. Once she got preggo, BAM diabetes. It seemed so strange that it would happen to her, but she did what the doctor said and turned out fine.

I had a good laugh about this, I've had trips to the doctors office like this too. :D I try to get a time slot that works best-- where they won't be tired leading to oversilliness. I pack a snack for each and on a good day just eating the snack gets through most of the appointment.

I think you should take the test just to see, but waiting for 3 hours will be difficult with a toddler (is she a toddler?) so perhaps you could get someone to watch her for this one?

Most GD symptoms can be managed entirely by changing your diet. The links Jan posted are all great!! Eliminate as much refined sugar and white starches as you can from your diet. Limit your fruit intake--choose non-starch-y veggies instead. White potatoes and corn act pretty much like sugar in your body. Absolutely make sure that you are getting at least 80g of protein each day. Drink milk and water and leave out juice and soda.
