  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

In the US, many Western films were produced, as in Italy. But hardly anyone knows that Germany had turned a while Western. Most recorded in former Yugoslavia. Stars of these films were the Frenchman Pierre Brice (last year passed away), and the Hollywood legends Lex Barker (Old Shatterhand) and Stewart Granger (Old Surehand). Here's a movie:

I'm a huge fan of spaghetti westerns, and while I'm aware that there were westerns made in Germany and the Soviet Union, they don't seem to strike the same chord with me. This trailer seems to be imitating the style of mid-century American western dramas, rather than having a unique cultural aesthetic all its own like the Italians did. Maybe it's a fine film, but I'll stick with the likes of Leone or Corbucci.

The big difference between West German and East German Western one hand, and US Western on the other hand, is that in Western and Eastern Germany, the Indians were the innocent victims and / or good, while the whites were often the evil ones. In addition, East German Western were historically accurate, and of the equipment (clothes, etc.) far more accurate because they were based on old pictures (Bodmer, Gatlin, etc.).
The films according to the books of Karl May and Louise Welskopf-Heinrich (The Sons of Great Bear) were about as successful because they called American imperialism, as it really was: genocide!
Here from East Germany a Western:

It was based on the style of American Western, because it was at that time very popular. And they want to tell stories. I understand that as a screenwriter.
