  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

Townhouses are evil (even though I live in one), but they ARE popping up EVERYWHERE.
Gwinnett Co is like a large ant farm, not longer a nice productive place.
I don't usually say this, but :amen:

I am always embarrassed to admit that I am one of the infamous Gwinnett "newcomers." We rent a house in one of the five-minute neighborhoods that was developed in the early 90's when Duluth was the backwoods, but it's now slap in the middle of a highly congested area.

We keep saying it's temporary -- we don't really live in Gwinnett, and I don't really love my job downtown, and we're going to move someplace saner and cleaner just any time now (or in the alternative, Athens, which is neither sane nor clean but all my oldest friends are there).

But it's going on four years and here we are. :sorry:

Its the convience of everything that is so addicting. I mean we have everything 'right' here, its hard to pass up.
I was driving to Athens this past weekend, and love that 'gap' in the middle of nowhere Winder. The house prices seem to be really decent, but I am sure where there are subdivions 'they' will come. :)

I consider Marietta .. Atlanta, but then half the time I use the term "atlanta' to describe everything from Marrietta, to Duluth, to Jonesboro.

Yes! I can't imagine life without Harry's and a good Thai restaurant within a mile of my house.

The subdivisions are spreading in that direction like a bad virus. But my husband and I got up at 4:00 a.m. one morning and drove out to Hog Mountain Road to watch the meteor shower. There was no way we could have seen it in the 'burbs, with all the lights.

There's Atlanta and there's Atlanta. Depends on the context. I generally say I live in Atlanta, and then if someone knows the area (and how casual the geographic labels are), they'll usually follow up with "What part of Atlanta?" If they don't know to ask that question, specifying "Duluth" won't mean anything to them.

"Hi all you Georgians. What's cook'n?"
Nothing here, though I just finished off some tuna helper. What about yourself?

"How many of yall know where Forsyth is?"
I dunno. Never bothered to count, but I know I do, so I guess that makes one so far.

"Can u tell me?"
Yes

"Interstate exit?"
Well, I'd say probably between 186 and 188. I always get off of the interstate at Forsyth when I go home at 188 (the Hwy 83 exit).

"Major landmark it is near?"
Erm...Not sure if there are ANY major landmarks out there...and it depends on what you consider major. I know that there's a waffle house at exit 188.

"I am waiting..."
Excellent. Patience is a virtue.

Nah, it's okay. I'll do virtually anything for a laugh, even if it includes being ridiculous on a message board. Forsyth is indeed off of I-75 and is indeed a little ways north of Macon. I actually don't know about any landmarks out there. All I know is that I drive by Forsyth on my way home from Valdosta. I usually only go home about once every few months or so. As for where I tend to exist on a day to day basis, just check some of the earlier threads I posted...I'm a VSU student, so that'll tell ya something.

Peace out, homes.

You guys wouldn't believe the damage down here in our part of the state. Tornadoes damaged over 200 homes. One fatality. Several seriously injured. There are areas that look like a war zone. I've got to go and see who I can help.

Probably middle-south GA or around there. That area's been pretty tornado-prone due to the piedmont flatlands. Even up here in the hills of NW GA there's been tornadoes.

There was an F5 twister that went through Georgia I think back in the early 1900s. Killed a great many people.

I remember one touched down a few years back...it was over Hall county and it came down right on top of Hall County Schools (High school, I think) right around 7 in the morning or so, just before school started. They canceled school that day, and it was a blessing that no one was injured very badly...it could have been so much worse.

But yeah, I didn't hear about any tornadoes either. Then again, I haven't kept up with the weather very much, though we did have a spell of nasty stuff come through on Thursday...and I had to drive out to practice in that junk, too. All the way to Quitman. But it cleared up right as I got across the Valdosta line (and then picked up again once I hit Quitman city limits! Imagine that!).

I am in Seminole County. The tornadoes started in Seminole County and crossed Miller County. They just announced that this was an F3 tornado, which means winds in excess of 200 mph. There are many homes that are totally destroyed and many more that have damage. Six families that are connected with our church have suffered damage, one a total loss. One of my co-workers has damage. This is a small close-knit community, so I know practically everyone who has suffered. It is a great testament to small community life to see dozens of neighbors at each affected home doing whatever can be done to help and comfort those in need. I don't know why you guys haven't seen this on the news. There are news vans and helicopters everywhere here.

Just thought I'd introduce myself. My name is Joy (Gozo is Spanish for joy). I'm originally from Tennessee, but moved down here 11 years ago. I went to college up in TN, and then taught ESL there for a couple years, then taught EFL in South America. I just recently made it back home to Georgia, and have settled in Suwanee. I prefer being up in the Clayton area though. I drive up there to stay for the weekend whenever I can spare the time. I love hikin', campin', and backpackin' with my Weimaraner, Titan. So if any of y'all know of good hikin' spots, let me know.

Hola, amiga! I'm in Duluth, just down the PIB from you. Bienvenida a casa! Will you continue teaching ESL? I imagine there' s a huge demand for it in these parts.
