People need to grow a sense of humour. We had a person in our church who didn't like jokes in the church bulletin because he said, "The work of God is so serious, we shouldn't take it lightly". My view is that life is so serious that we shouldn't take it seriously."
Good attitude. *
But I didnt like the vid.
Ya gotta better one?

*To the extent I could be said to have a sense
of humour, it is definitely on the dry side.

QV please:

The guidelines reveal the test's religious bias. If a person sees religious symbols, those responses will generally be scored as abnormal. The Rorschach Interpretation: Advanced Technique authors say:

Religion contents are virtually never present
in the records of normals. Their occurrence is
associated with profound concern about the
problems of good and evil, concern which,
almost always, is a screen for and displacement
of guilt induced by sexual preoccupation.

SOURCE
Fair enough. Fascinating that they use such a test for screening missionaries, then.

I don't know.

I've never been on deputation.

But it could be a requirement of the country they are going to.

It's a good question.

I was surprised by a few things in the video.

I enjoyed the bit about the raqia being a dome, and Adam being described as "the man" with notes about Cain fearing for his life and starting a city which was then populated by some unknown people's.

All of these I thought were interesting ideas in suggesting that Adam and Eve weren't the first people on earth or that the whole ANE position on scripture held more weight than the literalist position.

Then by video 6 they mentioned the sumerian kings list and that was pretty surprising to me, I hadn't heard of it before with it's list of kings of long ages.

And all this is called "Genesis for Normal People"???

Normal people don't need a concordance, list of kings from an empire that will be Satan's home base in the future, ten videos, and a description of how the sky was misinterpreted, in order to understand the Bible correctly in English.

Mark 12:37b And the common people heard him gladly.

Is southern mesopotamia Satan's future home base?

Revelation 18:2 And he cried mightily with a strong voice, saying, Babylon the great is fallen, is fallen, and is become the habitation of devils, and the hold of every foul spirit, and a cage of every unclean and hateful bird.

That's makes me wonder, if it's a a habitat of devil's, if that was pre-Noah times or if that's in the future, and if it were pre Noah times, would foul spirits cause the sumerian kings to live thousands of years old as their records suggest. Theologically.

In the pre Noah times, we see fallen angels marrying Earth women and having children ...

Genesis 6:1 And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them,
2 That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose.

After the Flood, these angels were locked up until Judgement Day, which is still to come.

2 Peter 2:4 For if God spared not the angels that sinned, but cast them down to hell, and delivered them into chains of darkness, to be reserved unto judgment;

The jillions of other fallen angels are still on the loose.

And some of them masqueraded as gods on the Earth, until their activity was placed in check when the Holy Spirit showed up at Pentecost and put them on restriction.

2 Thessalonians 2:7 For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way.

Following the Rapture though, when the Holy Spirit goes up as well,

2 Thessalonians 2:7 For the mystery of iniquity doth already work: only he who now letteth will let, until he be taken out of the way.

... all restrictions are going to end briefly, and Satan will have his "fifteen minutes of fame" here on the earth unchecked.

Then Jesus will return and lock Him up for a thousand years.

Oh ok.

Well, the book takes more of a "progressive" kind of approach to scripture. Ie, things like pointing out that the raqia was a dome, or that Cain didn't marry his sister. It looks more at the historical context in which Genesis was written I'd say.

It holds relation to the evolution and creation theme by taking a different approach to the topic of creation, different than the standard 6-day creation perspective.

“and He made from one man every nation of mankind to live on all the face of the earth, having determined their appointed times and the boundaries of their habitation,”
‭‭Acts‬ ‭17:26‬ ‭NASB1995‬‬

How does this relate to sumerian kings living thousands of years? Are you saying that they were angels?

My thought is that, because the sumerian kings list has kings that are said to have lived tens of thousands of years, it would make more sense that people didn't actually live this long and that these long ages instead represented some form of significance of the individual, rather than truly representing their age. Because I would guess that a human being never actually lived 60,000 years. The same perhaps applies to Genesis with it's long ages.

No king, Sumerian or otherwise, lived thousands of years.

The oldest man who ever lived was Methuselah, who lived 969 years.
Isaiah 41:10 said:
Are you saying that they were angels?
No.

They were men ... people ... human beings.
Isaiah 41:10 said:

I agree.

I disagree.

If there's a list of Sumerian kings that says they lived thousands of years, then that list is as bogus as the Challenger was GO with throttle-up, or Thalidomide was a prenatal wonder drug.

I quite like them. They are rather pretty, and they are said to be intelligent.
