I mean, they'd only be tangentially linked: someone doing a dumb and getting the Darwin award on the idea of having fun that's just for them is pretty different from someone being idiotic and bringing others into it for a communal purpose, like these parties that are as obnoxious as plenty of other celebrations that are superfluous. But at least the other ones, to my knowledge, don't involve stuff that is likely to start a fire (though some would, I live in the South, we use fireworks for any holiday sometimes)
