  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Gaming headphones?

I just got a set of Creative Sound Blaster Tactic 3D Alpha gaming headphones for about $50. The speakers on my Thinkpad T60 are a little underwhelming (read: inaudible), as is any pair of headphones I'd plug into the jack. Seems to be a recurring problem in the T-series. Anyway, these can be used in either the regular jack or USB, and there's a detachable noise-cancelling microphone for multiplayer gaming(which I don't do, but it's nice to have).
These are maybe the best headphones I've ever used. They're even better than a big set of Nova DJ headphones from the 80's I've got kicking around. I would've just used the Novas, but they need an amplifier to work right.

Does anybody here do a lot of online gaming? How much did you guys spend on headphones?

I've always found older IBM/Lenovo laptops useless for good sound levels but they are excellent otherwise :)

I use all Sennheiser headphones. I have yet to find anything with better sound quality. Spent between $80 - $200 per set depending on the model and what I'm using them for.

Used Sennheiser headphones years ago when I was heavily into HiFi (in the good old days) and found them first class.

While I don't do gaming (and if I did I wouldn't feel the need to use headphones), I usually go with the more economically-friendly Jensen models if I have the choice, since I don't have a lot to spend. I currently have a JHF300 pair that I got several years ago - they even make an iPod's output sound good, although it looks a bit ridiculous to have a full size pair of padded headphones hooked to an iPod Shuffle.

My last setup was AKG 511 headphones, plus the Asus Xonar DG sound card. A cheap blast. My ears were blasted.

AKG are Austrian but owned by Harman USA.

For gaming, you don’t need more.
If it’s for audio recording, you need thousands.

I have AKG's too. They are more expensive than Sennheisers.

I think there's a huge difference in quality between the aviation-grade Sennheiser vs the consumption-grade Sennheisers. I used to own Senns but the build quality and sound isn't as good as the AKG's.
