This thread is for games whether they be video games or board games. What's your pleasure?

I'm really considering getting one of these classic edition SNES consoles when they come out. They're supposed to be packed with multiple games already installed on the system. These titles alone would cost me hundreds of dollars if I bought them separate by the cartridges. My only question is will these games play and look right on big screen Smart TVs. I know if I were to plug in a regular SNES to my TV now it would look like garbage with huge pixels and whatnot. Perhaps they've remedies this with the classic edition. Also, (and I know this would just be an added bonus) but it would be awesome of they added a two player mode to the F-Zero game that's supposed to come already installed. Anyway, what do you guys think?

Slated for a launch on September 29th, the Super NES Classic Edition is a console kit similar to the original console that launched more than 20 years ago. Like the NES Classic edition that came before it, the new Super NES allows you to play retro Nintendo games in high-definition, over HDMI with two included wired controllers.

"Nintendo will pre-install the following 21 classic games:

  • Contra III: The Alien Wars™
  • Donkey Kong Country™
  • EarthBound™
  • Final Fantasy III
  • F-ZERO™
  • Kirby™ Super Star
  • Kirby’s Dream Course™
  • The Legend of Zelda™: A Link to the Past™
  • Mega Man® X
  • Secret of Mana
  • Star Fox™
  • Star Fox™ 2
  • Street Fighter® II Turbo: Hyper Fighting
  • Super Castlevania IV™
  • Super Ghouls ’n Ghosts®
  • Super Mario Kart™
  • Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars™
  • Super Mario World™
  • Super Metroid™
  • Super Punch-Out!! ™
  • Yoshi’s Island™
The Super NES Classic Edition launches on Sept. 29 at a retail price of $79.99, starting with direct availability from Nintendo, here."

Exciting about Sega releasing some of their old classics for free on Android (paid if you want the games to be ad-free). Already been playing Sonic 1 on there.

As far as games go, I really enjoyed The Last Of Us. Looking forward to the sequel. Besides that I do not really game much. Some classic PC games I enjoy are Deus Ex, the first few Delta Force games, and the Red Alert series.

The Grand Theft Auto games are fun too.

I mean...I don't mean to be disrespectful here but this is a recent realization of mine...but aren't games a waste of time?
It's a generalization. But since you asked, what kind of work do you do for a living?

I enjoy board games. I enjoy Hnefatafl which is an ancient board game. Some call it "Viking Chess" although that is not really accurate. It is an asymmetrical game with only one side having a 'king' that must escape a larger force trying to capture him.

For more modern board games I like a lot of GMT's games such as 'Here I Stand' which is a diplomatic/war game of the Protestant Reformation. I also enjoy their COIN (Counter Insurgency) series with my favorite being 'Fire in the Lake' about The US war in Vietnam and 'A Distant Plain' about the Coalition actions in Afghanistan.

Another is 'Twilight Struggle' about the Cold War. A simple yet engaging game showing the 45 year struggle between the US and USSR on Earth as well as in space.

Anything can be a waste of time unless it serves a need to sustain you. Watching movies, TV, listening to music, etc can all be considered a waste of time. If you're entertained by it, we all need a little entertainment. No harm, no foul. I used games as a way to clear my head. As someone who writes thousands of words per day, it requires a lot of concentration and thought, so I enjoy getting lost in a game and all of that.

Games are also used to train and teach people. Not everyone learns the same way, so games can be utilized to help in that regard.

Over the years I have spent many nights playing the various versions of Civilization that morphed from "Just one more turn" to "I really should be getting to bed soon" to "How much sleep do I actually need?". But I haven't played those for some time now, and these days the only games I play on my computer are games by Everett Kaser (some really good logic/puzzle games) and digital implementations of board games.

And board games are one of my big passions at the moment. I own a lot of them, although I currently only buy games that have a solo option as otherwise it becomes a bit of a waste of money buying a game that I'm not going to play all that often. Amongst my favourites games (not just solo) are Ticket to Ride, Pandemic, Paperback, Terraforming Mars, and Arkham Horror: The Card Game.

In many cases, yes.

I used to be a MMORPG, FPS, racing, and air and space simulation gamer. Although I do it for fun, it doesn't actually help me to unwind from the stresses of my job.

What really helps me to unwind from the stresses of the day is actually something meaningful like reading informative stuff in the internet like science and technology and doing useful DIY (Do-it-yourself) work like home improvement, working on my inventions, etc.

I used to be rated in chess. I like Go, and backgammon. Checkers are OK.

Uno, speed, spades, hearts, and poker for cards.

Consoles: Mario Bros., Bomberman, MK, MK2, MK3, UMK3, MK: Sub Zero Mythologies, MK: Deadly Alliance, MK: Deception, MK: Armageddon, MK: Shaolin Monks, Crash Bandicoot, Tomb Raider, Soul Egde, Tekken 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 and tag, Primal Rage (ollllld arcade game,) Sonic, Project Overkill, S.W.A.T., Dragonball Z Technai Budokai, DDR Max

PC: Starcraft: Brood War, Wings of Liberty, WoW, C&C: Tiberian Sun, C&C: Red Alert 2, Plants Vs. ZOMBIES, DDR emulator, Frogger, Edgeworld

Arcade: All MK, all Street Fighter, all Tekken, all Primal Rage, Pacman, Galaga, DDR

Probably some I am missing. I had to stop playing Playstation long ago, as well as most computer and arcade games. I still play Starcraft, WoW, and card games. Want to get back into chess on a "competitive" level. I have been a fighting game fan since Genesis, and Saturn.

The Nintendo 64, Gamecube and X-Box 360 were some of my favorite consoles, but lately I'm more into PC gaming. I enjoy games like The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion, Super Mario, Minecraft, Unturned, Halo 1-3, Star Fox, Age of Empires, and some building games. I used to be a pro at DDR as well, and really miss playing it.

I guess they can be considered as such, but I see them as a hobby or a form of story-telling - similar to reading a book, but a whole lot more interactive.

Whenever I start up a game, its almost like embarking on an adventure. You can become a space marine and save the galaxy; explore a nearly infinite, pixelated world with dungeons and monsters to defeat; be a tiny, Italian plumber who rescues the same princess over and over again, whatever you want.

I've loved playing video games since I was 4 years old! I do like playing some board games, card games, and computer games too.

The gaming systems I play games of are: SNES, N64, Gamecube, Wii, Game Boy, Game Boy Color, GBA, DS, and 3DS (also used to play the NES but it doesn't work anymore)
The video game series I enjoy playing are: Mario, Sonic, Pokemon, Kirby, Bomberman, Pac-Man, Super Smash Bros., Legend of Zelda, Metroid, Super Monkey Ball, Animal Crossing, and Art Academy

Also, that new Super NES system sounds pretty cool. :)

i don't really play video games much anymore. too expensive and time-consuming, for now. instead i watch gameplay of video games. watching gameplay is free, and I can other tasks while watching or listening to the gameplay.

there was a time when i stopped relating to video games. I think i spent a good few years not relating to them. but I grew up with video games, so I eventually started watching gameplay of them again.

I mean...I don't mean to be disrespectful here but this is a recent realization of mine...but aren't games a waste of time?

As a couple have already pointed out, they can be...but to some it's an outlet to relax or relieve stress. I personally find games as a relaxing, entertaining outlet...my little 'escape' from the real world. After a long, tiring work week, it's nice to jump into a game and just get lost for a while.

That being said, I'm a console, board, and occasional PC gamer. :)

Consoles I play and currently own: NES, PS1, PS2, New 3DS, Wii-U, and PS4. I've also played on Gamecube, XBox 360, XBox One, and SNES, but haven't owned any. I'm hoping to get the new SNES that's coming out.

Board games I play...well, there are so many that I can't list them all...I can literally play anything and have fun with it. :D

Among those mentioned, I also play Dungeons and Dragons, a tabletop RPG game. It's amazing if you have the right Dungeon Master telling the story. <3
Also a Magic the Gathering gamer. Friend of mine got me into that and now I have a small collection of cards (most of which were given to me as gifts from others when they heard I started playing).
