• CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Full Scale War between Isreal and Hamas has broken out in the Gaza Strip.

What can we do but pray?

We could send some nuclear warheads over to help negotiate peace keeping!

I bought a few in West Virginia for the 4th of July. I know, I know. Pennsylvania laws clearly state any fireworks that leave the ground are illegal to shoot off. Thats why we'll have to go to Ohio to shoot of the nukes. After all, where theres no humans, theres no war!

OR we could convert them to Christ. Where theres true belief in him theres no war either.

The blowing everything up option is a little more patriotic for the 4th though. Good thing I'm not a patriot. Or a parot.

Appeals for peace as Gaza ignites

Religious leaders and ordinary citizens are calling for dialogue and peace-building in the Holy Land, as the Israeli military intensifies its actions in Gaza and the humanitarian situation worsens.
Rachel Searle, director of the UK-based ecumenical Christian organisation Feed the Minds, has been visiting partners in the Middle East and was in Jerusalem when the Israeli Defence Force invaded Gaza on Wednesday 28 June.
Searle spoke with the Rt Rev Riah Abu El-Assal, Anglican Bishop of Jerusalem on the morning of the first attacks. Emphasising that these actions could have terrible consequences for fragile peace negotiations in the Holy Land, the Bishop commented: "Violence breeds violence. *** for tat will bring us not only greater grief but will bring us nowhere.
"It is time for people to sit down and negotiate, rather than to continue to confront each other on the battle ground.
"We need to join hands and pave the way for healing and reconciliation," added Bishop Riah.
Christian religious leaders, representing 12 different denominations, issued a joint statement in Jerusalem on 8 July, calling on the international community to intervene to resolve the conflict through negotiation. "The Israeli violence and aggression of this present moment is without proportion or justification," they said.
"An Israeli soldier was taken prisoner in combat. A Jewish settler was kidnapped and killed. As a response, Israeli forces destroy three bridges and a power station, causing millions of dollars in damage and leaving up to 750,000 people without electricity or water in Gaza."
Nearly a hundred people have been killed in Gaza since the attacks began, many of whom are civilians, including women and children. Hundreds more people have been injured and emergency medical services are struggling to cope...

Aid agencies report concerns that vaccinations and medicines, which require refrigeration, will expire. Chronically ill patients needing dialysis or treatment for diabetes and heart conditions are being turned away. There is a critical shortage of blood.
Although United Nations agencies such as the World Food Programme are now able to bring food, water and fuel supplies into Gaza, there is a desperate shortage of basic goods. The humanitarian impact of the crisis is escalating, with an increase in cases of diarrhoea and malnutrition, particularly among children and the elderly.
In spite of the escalating violence and sense of hopelessness, many individuals and faith-based groups are working steadily to break down barriers and build peaceful relations between communities in the Holy Land.
"We came here to meet with partners who are working for peace in the Holy Land, commented Searle. "We arrived just as the military actions in Gaza were beginning and we've seen first-hand the fear experienced by citizens as the violence gets worse.
"We have also witnessed the amazing commitment towards peace among people of all faiths at a grass roots level. In spite of the actions of governments and armies, ordinary people are working very hard to break down barriers and build solid relations in communities across the Holy Land."

I am praying about this but I am just curious, does Catholic Eschatology include any details about what will happen with Jerusalem or the Middle East or anything? When I was an Evangelical/Fundamentalist, a common topic was the end times and such. The whole issue is rather confusing to me.

Not really no, as Catholic and Orthodox Eschatology is is essentially preterist. We believe that most, if not all, of the OT Propechies were fullfiled by Christ or fulfilled during the time of the Early Church. All that awaits us now in the anti-christ, the Second coming, and the day of last judgement.

Amillenialism and Preterism have much in common. :)

Catholics can be Amillenial, Post Millenial, and Preterist as long as they are not full Preterists.

:crossrc:for all involved in this situation. We don't need a full blown war over there right now. We need peace. :(

Peace

The only real peace is the Peace of Christ in the Kingdom of Christ. Only when the Jews and the Muslims give up their false religions will their be peace in the Middle East. It is that simple.

Ah okay. I never really did understand what Preterist, Partial Preterist, and all that meant. I will try to look it up but thank you for this information. :)

all we can do is pray, and hope that not too many lives will be lost. i sound pesimistic when, i say this could be a harbinger of worse things, to come, however, i'm always pesimistic about the Isreal and Palestian Conflicts. Anywho, the best we can do is pray our hearts out. :crossrc::prayer::prayer::liturgy::crossrc:
