Police were looking for Murrietta-Golding’s older brother in connection with a shooting the day before. That shooting led to a fatal car crash.

After staking out a home, police stopped a car in which Murrietta-Golding and two other teenagers had been riding...

The article goes on to describe a whole bunch of lies the PD used to justify the shooting including how the officer thought the kid was reaching for a gun and how they thought he posed a danger to the day care even though it was a Saturday, the daycare was empty, and the officer fired towards one of the building's windows.

But hey, props for the headshot kill on a fleeing target with a pistol on the first try. That would make the PuBg highlights for sure.

He was pulling his pants up while running flat out. And that hand was on the opposite side of his body from the cop. There's no way the cops could have seen him going for a weapon.

That's great. Maybe once the city pays out a bunch of money and some higher level prosecutor re-examines the case and decides to press charges, the lessons will be that cops shouldn't fire on a suspect who hasn't made a threat towards anybody, that they should double-check what's behind their intended target, that they shouldn't lie about what happened, and that they shouldn't give cover for each other like this.

I think they should just rewrite the laws and give cops free reign to execute people as they see fit.

That would save the taxpayer boatloads of money.

And hey, it's not like you have anything to fear, right, lawfull citizen?

Hopefully, public outrage will force the State to investigate this shooting.

“Known to” != “is doing so”. “Known to carry” != “threatening to shoot”.

Either way, they hadn’t even verified that this was the guy they were looking for. He took off almost as soon as he got out of the car. And if shooting the day care center was such a concern, the cop wouldn’t have fired directly at the day care center.

You missed out the fact that it was a Saturday, so the center was closed.

like i said, if these idiots would obey the cops they'd stay alive. a cop's job is very very dangerous with little margin for error.

It’s not so dangerous as to justify shooting a fleeing suspect in the back before he’s so much as uttered a threat or before they’ve positively identified him. You’re basically advocating for lousy policing.

Yeah....while I understand that reaching to pull up his pants does look like reaching for a weapon, he never presented anything that looked like a weapon.

As you said earlier....being careful because someone might be armed isn't the same as having a reason to believe they are armed. I'm curious how quickly this shooting was cleared and if it would have gotten more scrutiny if the kid wasn't white.

Got to love how the cop shoots the guy in the head, then spends time cuffing him, because apparently people lying dying on the ground are such a threat.

When there are bullets in the back of an unarmed person, I have a hard time believing they are a threat. Should he have been running? That's irrelevant, unarmed people should not be shot while running away. If this were any other industry where people are dying when they shouldn't die, they would have implemented reforms and/or punished the police officers for such reckless actions. The way in which incompetence is accepted is ridiculous; we know the problem exists and still act as if nothing can be done about it.
