Why worry about that?
They make Wills though ..
skeptics never worry
about the afterlife
Sure .. but I'm not at all sure you understand what myself and others mean about this .. You appear to reject before you show understanding .. maybe because you find that understanding unsatisfying, (or perhaps, too empty/shallow)?
you know what I meant
but I'm not at all sure you understand what myself and others mean about this …
Ok .. I'm fascinated what you think might be the basis of disgreement there?well we disagree
Ok … I'm fascinated what you think might be the basis of disagreement there?
I'm willing to listen to your deeper thoughts.
Ok .. so, from that, it looks to me, that its left up to me to decide on what is the 'right' and, what is the 'wrong' view, yes?
right view leads… in the right direction
wrong view leads… in the wrong direction
What am I to do now?JohnEmmett said:right view is to accept the afterlife

Well I'm not surprised .. given that no-one seems to have a clue about which way is up and which is down there, no?similar to walking on a road
another traveler is coming from the opposite direction
you say… you should turn around, etc.
some people will turn around, others not
I'm enquiring from your knowledge of how it works .. but not as an attack .. just to understand.
I'm Buddhist… I don't come up with this
Well that's fine with me .. what each of us means by: 'truth', is dependent on how each of us is thinking in the moment, (I think )Buddhism is not the best term
I just consider it the truth
I'm enquiring from your knowledge of how it works … but not as an attack … just to understand.
So who's the person saying that then .. in this conversation?
well consider this
human life is extremely brief
but the afterlife is lasting
where's that coming from?
Once, monks, there was a teacher named Araka …
Now at that time, monks, the human life span was 60,000 years
Ok ... so the way they arrived at their cosmological conclusions (ie: the 'how') is all important there. What was the way?Buddhist cosmology
What was the way?
Also, living 60,000 year lifespans, a lasting afterlife wouldn't be worth a whole lot, surely?
Ok .. (I forgot that bit .. apologies )The afterlife is millions of years. Or more…
Ok .. I'm kind of sympathetic(?) - meaning I tend to 'warm' to the idea of wisdom and the awakening of the intellect.JohnEmmett said:The way this was known is the insight of enlightenment.
… the testimony of the Buddha.
