• Starting today August 7th, 2024, in order to post in the Married Couples, Courting Couples, or Singles forums, you will not be allowed to post if you have your Marital status designated as private. Announcements will be made in the respective forums as well but please note that if yours is currently listed as Private, you will need to submit a ticket in the Support Area to have yours changed.

  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.
  • We hope the site problems here are now solved, however, if you still have any issues, please start a ticket in Contact Us

You just insulted me, and then said I have to stop being a jerk. You have no shame, do you?

I don't wanna hear that crap. I listen to the radio every day about people 2, 3, 4 times my age doing the most stupid things with money, with their life, their friends, their family.

And even if that were true, there is nothing more rude, more disrespectful that for someone to write up a well though-out post, a rational arguement, just to have some twit say to em, "you're too immature, you don't know anything, you have no life experience, you don't know near as much about anything as I do, so just shut up there ya little kid and let the grown-ups do the talking."

At this point you are showing your sex and becoming [wash my mouth][wash my mouth][wash my mouth][wash my mouth][wash my mouth]y.

You seem to having trouble grasping the concept that making comments like: "To bad Scripture and reality don't coincide, huh?" in a Christian section does not score you any points. And where exactly is the well thought out, rational argument here?

Hey respect your elders....36 and 3 months thank you.

If I wasn't 36, I would have said something even more colorful back to him. Honestly, I did just start to laugh at it.

Yes maam! My mother always taught me to respect those who are older than I. :D

I didn't say there was one right here, we're talking about a series of posts earlier in the topic.

And I'm not trying to earn points. You don't earn points with me when you say that there are no good people in the world, but do care that you're not earning points?

Look, you joined here a week ago and have done noting but stir up trouble. It is not about earning points. The least you could have done was start off by respecting Christian beliefs and get to know some people. You are the exact reason why the changes on this site will eventually fail. The bottom line is the majority of the members here are devout Christians and you have come here with nothing more than wise cracks and ridiculous arguments.

So what you telling me is that the Christians here can be as horrible and disrespectful as they want, but when they get challenged in a tone that is anything above a groveling, pathetic, wimper, we're the problem. We're stirring up trouble. We're the reason the baby bird flew into a window and the crops fail.

Suuure.

rolling eyes....PLEASE

I can handle people disagreeing with me. I don't put up with the pompous attitude...looking straight at the post.

What pompous attitude? From me? From some other liberal here?

I can't discuss this with you until you define what it is you're complaining about.

The fact is that it has, since now it's Buddhism, secualrism, crazy forums. Christians get attacked in their own apologetics forum now.
If you can't handle the heat, get out of the kitchen.

No, I never said any such thing. In fact, I have said exactly the opposite.

What disgusts me about the forum - as it now is - is the mean-spirited and derogatory tone that has recently taken over several (perhaps most) of the sub-forums.

I have never gone over to an Atheist, or Buddhist, or Muslim discussion forum, and called them names, said they're stupid, and insulted them on their own forum.

It's too bad that most of the non-Christians who have recently "invaded" this forum are not capable of extending that same kind of civility and/or respect.
You have a point. There are non-Christians here that do have a chip on their shoulder - just as there are Christians who have a chip on their shoulder.

I agree with you on that. I just don't think that ALL non-believers should be punished for the bad attitude of a few. That's all.

Well for crying out loud - how many times does the simple truth have to be repeated before some people are able to understand it?

If you & I want to smart-off at each other about college football teams, that's cool. And if a whole bunch of other people want to join in smarting off about it, that's cool too.

But if you and I are trying to have a civil and in-depth discussion about doctrines of the Baptist General Conference, the LAST thing we need is to have some smart-mouthed atheist in here yelling, "Christians are dorks!"

It's NOT about thinking we're too good for anybody else.
It's NOT about being afraid of differing world views.
It's NOT about being exclusive.

It's about getting really, really sick of having every decent discussion derailed by some smart alec that just can't keep his mouth shut & leave people alone.

PS: I still prefer the name Dolt McCoy! ;)

Enough; I understand your point now.

I see what you mean now, and I'm not sure how that problem could be addressed. I'll think about that.

Are you kidding, there is no problem, such a topic would be made in the congregation area where debating by non-baptists isn't allowed, where non-baptists can be shut out of the topic completely.

It's a non-issue.

Couldn't prove what? That you joined a week ago or that you have just stirred up trouble. All one has to do is read your posts. Not everything is a debate. You are only proving the why the new rules here will eventually end. You came here out of boredom to start trouble. Not to fellowship, not discuss, not learn. There are many Christians on thees boards that at times will post things they should not, myself included. But the majority at least of a track record of being civil with each other and apologizing when they act like a buffoon.

But you actually do have to "date" someone in order to get people to actually debate they have to see it's worth at least answering your posts right? Isn't that the point of debate? You give your argument (with at least an attempt at proof) they counter with their arguments (hopefully again with some form of backing) and you go back and forth. Now if you just start posting things like "Everyone who is a Christian are just sheep!!" The first couple of times people will try and say "No, that's not exactly true and here's why." then you can carry on from there but if your only goal is "say something so I can make fun of you" then people will simply ignore you as just another troll. So if your goal is indeed debate you might want to back up and start again. (IMHO)
tulc(just a thought) :)

very mature... or relevant

You read and responded before I had a chance to retract that. I better understand the issue now.

It's a non-issue.

Actually, they do bring up a good point. Nobody wants to be interrupted in a good discussion by bomb-throwers who inject inanity into the conversation (an example being the "Christians are dorks" post).

Part of the problem may be that some non-Christians and Christians alike have a chip on their shoulders. If some Christians were a bit less sensitive (not that your point is not valid) and some atheists felt less like they had to constantly attack Christians, this problem could be minimized.

Yep. Exactly.

Unfortunately, while there are some really cool "non-Christians" who have come to this forum recently, there are also a whole lot of jerks that came too.

If by "civil discussion", you mean being insulted for my age, being called immature, and stupid, then you can keep it.

I haven't seen anyone here come down on Karrie or the others for what they said to Father'sDaughter, or their arrogant attitudes, but I get hounded to no end over a rabid sheep dog remark.

Don't you see this hypocracy just keeps proving my point, or you just not care?

And again, my question: Why the heck are you here?

If you want a civilized, intelligent discussion with Christians, then have one! If you want to be an impudent little boy, go away. That's all!
