  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

well...theology is just a theory. there's no proof that evolution is real. even historical records say that Jesus was real and that he really performed the miracles, especially his resurrection.
theology is umm, theology, its a form of philosophy. theory is a structured statement consisting of facts, no where close, sorry

of course theres no proof, science doesn't deal in proof, it deals in evidence and tentive conclutions

can you tell me what records say jesus existed?
all of the ones i've read are eather about christians and what they believe or made up
none of the historians cared about jesus when he was alive, they cared only after christians started to become a problem

Did you re-read this statement BEFORE you posted it? You stated that Evolution is a "fact" and that it is a "theory" in the same sentence!, IN FACT, it is a "Theory"! Evolution has NEVER been proven my friend!

With that, I leave you with another "Fact"; a verse from the only book that has withstood the testing of fools. 1 Corinthians 1:18-25

yes and you have no clue what a theory is and what people mean when they say evolution is a fact, evolution happens therefor evolution is a fact, thats what a fact is, something that is objectively true, namely you can find out its true independent of other people

a theory on the other hand namely the TOE is a statement of facts, the first one being evolution happens
try to differate between the two it makes it easier to debate honestly if we have our defintions straight

now as for corinthians, that isn't a fact, nor do you even undestand what paul is saying in context
paul is talking to former pagans who think what paul's followers say is absurd, and paul says of course it doesn't make sense to you what god does, god doesn't make sense to people who try to reason, only through god can you understand it
god confounds people who don't trust god to know what he's doing

basicly calling people fools now is wrong since paul had a different meaning for fools than we do

The theory of evolution is the best supported theory in the history of scientific observation. If you consider Newtonian gravity theory to be fact, it is certainly fair to consider evolutionary theory "fact"

It IS possible that someone may come along and find some amazing evidence which proves that the entire fossil record and genetic comparison records actually DON'T demonstrate clear and progressive evolution... but until that time, its as near to fact as anyone could want.

The thing about science is that its man made and run. It could be wrong just as any man can be wrong. So I say to science, "are you sure?"

Sure, many things can be proven, but remember, Gravity is still under experimentation, they still cant explain it, but we all know its there. Science cant explain why there are Oak trees, but they are there. Science cant explain why you or I exist, but yet, we are here.

Science is not infallible, only God is infallible

And the thing about religion is that it, for all appearances, is man made and run. It could be wrong just as any man can be wrong. So I say to religion "are you sure?"

For the most part I agree, which is why I try to find out things on my own.

evolution is just a theory. noone has ever actually proved evolution was real.

aww... they pretty much have actually. Its only dedication to the scientific method that stops real scientist saying its fact.

Itc closer to fact than gravity is anyway.

historical records even tell of Jesus's miracles and his resurrection from the cross.

Which historical records?

Evolution seems to be the best working theory that we have at the moment. I believe that man kind was not created for some altuistic purpose, but evolved into what we are today. It was during that development that we started getting a sence of a greater consicousness. We then went and tried to put names on it and killed for it for no apparent reason. I think that our evolutionary progress will no longer be physical, but mental and spirtual. The closer we come to understanding that higher power, the closer we come to that next phase of or evolutionary walk.

Yes Euda. Perfectly said. Doubt is fundamental to understanding. Science says something along the lines of "we've run this experiment a thousand times, and it always comes out the same way, but ya never know". This is a proper attitude toward observable phenomena.

Ouija boards (< Correct spelling fyi) do not need ghosts to work. The same effects can be created by people's expectations, i.e. people push the glass without realising it. (Search ouija board revealed in youtube for a mini explanation)
Also I don't see the connection between ghosts and God. Surely if God existed then all the dead spirits would be in heaven/hell/limbo/purgatory. I am fairly sure that earth bound spirits do not feature in Christian theology (I don't know this it's just a guess and if I'm wrong let me know).
You could easily believe in ghosts and not believe in God, the existence of one type of supernatural thing doesn't prove all of them.
I don't believe in either but it is perfectly possible to believe in only one of them without contradicting yourself

Ouija boards and people’s experiences with them does NOT necessarily lead to the conclusion that spirits exist.

Your attempt at logic is a red herring, but at least it only took 9 posts for someone to be able to spell Ouija ^_^
