Who is the "them" (because it's not "us" as in you and me....we were never "under the Old Covenant")?8:8 For finding fault with them, he saith, Behold, the days come, saith the Lord, when I will make a new covenant with the house of Israel and with the house of Judah:
Is the New Covenant *only* pertaining to "the House of Israel and with the house of Judah" or is that something symbolic-or something else- since the temple and Jerusalem were destroyed?
I didn't realize we (Gentiles) were *ever* under the Old Covenant. In verse 8, when He says "finding fault with them", it was us humans that were faulty because of our sin nature.
Because we could not keep the Old Covenant, He made a New Covenant
The "fault" was their rejection of Christ....and His death was the end of the covenant with them.
“If only you had known on this day what would bring you peace! But now it is hidden from your eyes. 43For the days will come upon you when your enemies will barricade you and surround you and hem you in on every side. 44They will level you to the ground—you and the children within your walls. They will not leave one stone on another, because you did not recognize the time of your visitation from God.”~Luke 19:42-44
As long as the temple stood, it signified the continuation of the Old Covenant. Hebrews 9:8-9 refers to the age that was passing away as the new covenant was being established (Hebrews 8:13). Is the temple still standing....or did it "disappear" in 70AD (which was in the future when the book of Hebrews in the Bible was written)?
And what is obsolete and growing old will soon disappear.~Hebrews 8:13
