In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

oh maaaaaaaaaan was I bad yesterday! I ate almost a whole (small) M&M Package...!

Yuum now I'm craving those!:yum:

I wouldn't overdo it too much on the sugar and simple carbs - just because it can grow a really big baby, but after the first trimester, it's really not as big a deal to watch what you are eating. The kiddo is just growing now. All the complicated stuff that food poisoning and over-caffination can mess with is already done. My OB practically recommended lots of fat and protein for pregnancy.

Do make sure you get lots of ice cream. My kiddo can't tolerate dairy so it will be years before I get ice cream again. If I had known that, I would have had a bowl every night I was pregnant.

Thanks! It's really weird how I didn't crave sugar really the first few months. But now woooo watch out! :)

Did you drink milk or eat cereal any?

I don't drink milk (because it upsets my stomach) but I eat yogurt and cheese every day. I'm more of an oatmeal for breakfast kind of person instead of cereal (although I like cereal occasionally). Just don't pick cereals with tons of sugar because they're practically worthless for nutrition.

Go for the higher protein snacks~ spoon of peanut butter, cheese stick, cheese & whole grain crackers, nuts (cashews and walnuts have a lot of the good fats), avocado or homemade guacamole... Eating lots of protein is Really good for you while pregnant. It helps keep your stomach more full (which helps prevent nausea, even later on) and it's much healthier.

You Can have cookies, M&M's, ice cream, etc.~ just don't overdo it! Let yourself have a little bit of "dessert" after lunch and dinner and you won't feel deprived, but at the same time you won't be gaining a lot of weight from it either. It's the Binging that's bad....

Sure it'd be great to be 100% organic and fresh foods only during our pregnancies, but for most of us it's not realistic. Eating out (fast food) OCASSIONALLY is ok too~ just don't do it every day. And when you Do eat out, make it smarter choices~ like flame-broiled or grilled burgers not fried, kwim?

Not sure if I can live without my Lucky Charms & Apple Jacks.:)

And I've been eating Chick-filet like crazy every single day. Haven't had too many burgers and they usually have been a good good burger from a restraunt not fast food.

Now I need to go find something to eat with all this food talk.^_^

Not really. I put rice mlk in cereal, if I want it, but rice mlik is pretty nutritionally empty, so that's about all I use it for - cereal wetter. :p

Mmmm my mom wanted me to try that stuff once & gosh it almost made me:sick: give me my real milk.^_^

Chick-Fil-A is a healthier alternative~ they fry in peanut oil.

(I have 2 teens who work for Chick-Fil-A~ great company! )

yeah I LOVE that place. I need some stock right now for sure! But I do get fries too so that is the downfall. But oh so yummy! If it weren't nasty wether outside I would have gone today too. Seriously I go everyday for lunch. Kids meals are pretty cheap!

Had to settle for a french bread cheese pizza.:)

I work the other way around personally. For the first twelve weeks baby is supported nutritionally by the yolk sac - sure alcohol, caffeine and other teratogens are still harmful to the baby in this time - but nutritionally it will get what it needs. Whereas once you reach the second trimester the baby eats only what you eat, so this is the point where I usually start to be careful to get enough calcium, iron, and other vitamins and minerals. Now that I'm later in my pregnancy I also pay attention to omega 3 and iodine. Of course fat and protein are also important during pregnancy, but in the diet of most western women today lack of fat and protein is not a problem.;)
Also, the third trimester of pregnancy is the time of most susceptibility to bacteria such as listeria.

Admittedly, I studied the affect of perinatal nutrition on later life at uni, and I have a passion for nutrition, so I may be a bit of a freak in this area.:sorry:

Wow that is so opposite of what I hear with the trimesters. Isn't that strange? Especially with the listeria, everything I read says avoid the first trimester especially. Very interesting!

Bacteria and teratogens are harmful throughout all of pregnancy. I'm not saying that they are ok in the first trimester. But the mother's immune system is more depressed in the third trimester meaning that if she comes into contact with something like listeria she is more likely to 'catch' it. So it's not like the problem 'goes away'.

But nutrition is a different matter.

Thankfully it has gone and i was able to eat a heathly dinner tonight... So i am going to break out the salad and the fruit tomorrow... Get some good stuff into me!!!

I ate a ton of chocolate. To the point of my husband calling me on the way home from work and asking me "you want chocolate and do we need anything else at the store?"

And I stopped at Wendy's a handful of times for a frosty and told myself it was for the calcium.

Yeah, right:) The good news is, I have a beautiful, healthy baby girl and got back to my prepregnancy weight in six months. So *shrug* I really would just enjoy the sweet tea in moderation and just watch out for stuff like mercury (I limited myself to one tuna sandwich a week).

LOL Beth, that sounds like my DH yesterday... we had to go to the local store (walk and walk back) and get a few things and he mentioned us "needing" chocolate... and 'what else?'...

I've been drinking chocolate milk about 3 - 4 times a day, as well as having milk and cereal on the weekend. Something about 1/2 a liter of chocolate milk just 'perks' me right up in the evening or afternoon.

I got all excited last night (and everyone thinks it's funny) that in our town the Italian Icecream parlor reopened for it's new season, with its new renovated interior. I can see when they put their ice-cream cone out front from my kitchen window, so I noticed right away when they'd opened. They'd been closed for about 4 or 5 months and I love that place..! Every time I visited here before moving, we had to go and get ice cream. They use REAL milk and only natural flavorings... it's so good.. and this summer before I was expecting, I think that we were there at least three times a week. We should buy stock in that place. :D

While they were closed, I took to making smoothies again.. About 1 cup of vanilla ice cream, a little sprite (Enough to make it 'wet'), some fruit and ice.... and it makes two great big smoothies!

Yoghurt I've been bad about and not been eating much of. I know I need to again, but I just hadn't. I do sometimes alternate my smoothies with it in addition though.

I think I'm coming down with something again though, so I'll be laying low and trying to rest a lot this week... I'm soooooo tired and my throat's gone all scratchy again :(

I had a pluto pup last night at the local show! Oh well, I'm back to the hospital tonight so will be eating properly! I'm on 5 in a row and then classes! I am going to be exhausted on Friday afternoon!

I am going through a phase of the WW microwave meals, the beef hot pot! It is sooooo yummy, I want it all the time :)

I bought this thing that my safety glasses and stuff go in, like a carry case, but realised after I bought it that it goes onto the belt loops and attaches with velcro and I don't have any belt loops in my pants! So I am heading to Target today to see if I can get some maternity pants that have belt loops!
I will be so much easier having them in a carry case. I can also put my scissors in there and some tape too. That will be so handy!

What is a pluto pup?

And I hear ya on the microwave meals I've been getting some Stouffer's & Weight watchers too. I do try to get the ones with no preservatives though.

Don't work too hard!

Pluto pup...corn dog...what's the difference? :) Actually, when I first read "pluto pup" I immediately thought of those long popsicles that are three or four different layed colors!

And now I really really want one of those smoothies.

I had no idea what it was is why I asked because I thought the same thing. Like it was similar to a Micky Mouse popsicle at Disneyworld only made like Pluto. ^_^
