I didn't say it should disqualify anyone...but you can't have one group founded by 2 openly avowed Marxists, and another 'movement' (like Antifa) that flies the flag of the 1930's German communist movement, and then have them get bent out of shape when that's pointed out.

I've noted this before, but perhaps it's time for there to be a parallel movement that seeks to achieve the same main goal, but doesn't come with all of the baggage.

I've likened it to the difference between PETA and the ASPCA. Both acronyms, expanded, convey a similar message of "don't be cruel to animals", yet the two organizations are quite different in their tactics and side-agendas.

Perhaps it's time for those two ideas/movements to have an "ASPCA" to BLM's/Antifa's "PETA".

The founders of BLM never claimed to be unique authorities, and are not leaders in the usual sense, as Black Lives Matter is not an organization, but a movement. BLM is non-authoritarian and non-hierarchical. As long as you believe black lives matter, that's what's essential. That means that alot of people marching in BLM related protests don't necessarily agree with everything that the founders might have to say, and they don't have to, really. That's not the point of the protests. The point of the protests is black people can't breathe.

...so, who in the movement is in charge of running their website, deciding which content gets published, and picking which things get listed on "what we believe" page, and deciding who gets to have "official" chapter status?
https://blacklivesmatter.com/chapters/

I assume that not just any old person can log into the admin section of their official website and post an article...

Who gets to do official postings on behalf of their official facebook page?

I'm assuming someone (or a small group) is at the top making those decisions, correct?

The "it's a leaderless movement" angle doesn't play on this one...

While I would agree that the main message is the important part, at a certain point, the long term motives of the messenger become important as well.

The "it's a leaderless movement" or "it's a decentralized movement" is often simply an excuse/rebuttal point, to allow people to attempt to distance themselves from questionable messages, or questionable actions committed by some espousing the moniker.

BLM is about as "decentralized" as the Hells Angels. There's no official "national leadership structure", however, there's clearly a handful of people at the top of the food chain making decisions, and not just anyone can start a chapter without approval from "the right people"

Uh, speaking of Florida...

Four Pinellas County [St. Petersburg-area] hospitals were without any space in their intensive care units Saturday as Florida hit an all-time high for single-day coronavirus cases.

Palms of Pasadena Hospital, St. Petersburg General Hospital, Morton Plant Hospital in Clearwater and AdventHealth North Pinellas in Tarpon Springs had no beds for critical patients, according to data collected by the Agency for Health Care Administration.

Meanwhile, Northside Hospital in St. Petersburg had just 3 percent of its ICU beds available, Mease Dunedin Hospital had 5 percent and both St. Anthony’s Hospital in St. Petersburg and Largo Medical Center had 13 percent.

Florida teen dies after mom takes her to church COVID party, gives untested drugs & treatment.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement investigated the teen’s last two weeks in the medical examiner’s report, which Jones said shows her mother, Carole Brunton Davis, had taken her on June 10 to a church-sponsored event to intentionally expose her immunocompromised daughter, who had survived cancer at 2, to the potentially deadly coronavirus.

More than 100 mask-free children attended the event, and Davis gave her daughter azithromycin, an anti-bacterial drug with no known benefits for fighting COVID-19, after she developed headaches, sinus pressure and a cough, Jones reported.

Davis — whose Facebook page is awash in QAnon conspiracy theories, anti-vaccine and coronavirus misinformation and dubious legal theories — next put the girl on her grandfather’s oxygen machine after she “looked gray” on June 19.

Then she gave the girl hydroxychloroquine, an antimalarial drug touted as a cure by President Donald Trump, despite evidence of deadly side effects, and Carsyn’s condition worsened.

Davis finally took her daughter to a hospital, where she was admitted to a pediatric intensive-care unit — but declined intubation until it was too late.

off topic but does anyone else think they mean only 3% full when they those those numbers, rather then available?

  • Miami-Dade (which includes the city of Miami)

Another 32 hospitals show ICU bed availability of 10% or less, per the AHCA data.

A man at was filmed Monday yelling and threatening shoppers at a Costco in Fort Myers, Florida, reportedly after an elderly woman asked him why he wasn't wearing a mask. Clad in a "Running the world since 1776" tee shirt, the man puffs up his chest, balls his fists and yells "I FEEL THREATENED!" while belligerently advancing on the person filming.

Florida has no mask mandate, but Fort Myers does.

It's so good to see the return of "Florida Man". He was losing out to "Arizona Girl" for a while.

Texas was desperatly trying to add new ICU's probably 200+ a day since friday and they still got overwhelmed it's insane.

can't imagine it any better in florida.

DeSantis is lying through his teeth to people about the cause of increasing cases, and refusing to implement more stringent measures to control the spread of the virus.

So it's going to get pretty bad here.

The issue is that (like everything else unfortunately), this thing is being politicized.

Florida was doing okay until about 1-2 weeks after the protests (which is the typical incubation time from transmission to symptom onset).

Do you not see the irony of these two sentences?

Sure, protest are one potential source of new infections. But they certainly are not the only one - or even the principle contributor as you seem to be suggesting in several posts.

This is exactly the scenario governors should have been trying to avoid (have we learned nothing from Wuhan, Bergamo, New York.....?)

This whole thing with the Republican governors is a conspiracy against the American people, all so that we will be lulled into complacency, and accept another 4 years of Trump.

Worldometers showing 9,989 for Florida today, pushing the state well into the 1% club, i.e. 1% of all Floridians have tested positive. (Sadly, it will probably take only about 4 days before that's true of the nation as a whole, which is currently at 0.94% of the total population having tested positive.)

Given that this President and his Administration have been on the wrong side of every decision concerning COVID-19 from Day 1, now they are prepared to play a high stakes version of "Russian roulette" with the nation's children!

Apparently the President is prepared to "pressure" Governors into reopening the schools - irrespective of the CDC guidelines, the 3 million testing positive, 50,000+ new cases daily, over 130,000 pandemic deaths and state healthcare systems on the verge of being overwhelmed!

Without adequate testing to ensure that each child is not
asymptomatic, if the pandemic is surging in most states after just 2 holiday weekends and the relaxation of some "lockdown" rules, the examples provided by the nation's meat packing plants and nursing homes are harbingers of things to come when large numbers of individuals are placed indoors in a confined space for extended periods of time!

This President and his Administration have effectively "thrown-in-the-towel" and given up on combating the pandemic - now the American public is supposed to accept the White House's new, improved version of history whereby COVID-19 is nothing more than another of life's inconveniences using the nation's
children and their families to prove their point!
