  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

They just stated that it as at our latitude right now (Homestead, FL) so we are likely to miss the brunt of it. But I figure it being the 13th anniversary of my town being destroyed by Hurricane Andrew today, the rest of you can have Katrina! No offense...

so far katrina has turned out to be a punk! ha! this was my first fl hurricane. i'm happy it's not too bad.

Good for you! It's best to start out slow...Hurricane Andrew was my first...and well, if there is a word beyond devestation, I can't think of it right now. Needless to say I am pretty paranoid of hurricanes since then. But you are right, so far so good with Katrina. We are still under a warning, though and expecting 10-15 inches of rain, but the eye is north of us (near Hialeah) so I am quite happy about that! Good luck to you through the rest of the season!

Yeah, I shoulda kept my mouth shut. Stupid Katrina downshifted for a surprise attack on Homestead!! The flooding down here is unbelievable...the worst we've had in a few years. My pool started to overflow into my reckroom (coverted garage) so last night I had to deal with going out in the storm (yes, that was me outside looking like a wet dog trying not to get struck by lightning and at the same time not fly away!) to drain some of it, start pumping water out of the room to salvage the carpet, but then at 1:30am the power went out (so to bed I went)...and stayed out until about two hours ago. But it is still raining so when I try to empty my wet vac I let just as much water in as I am dumping out! It is a lost cause until tomorrow I think. Oh well...my beau's parents still don't have power so I shouldn't complain...although their house is still dry inside!!
