  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

As much as I enjoy Florida... right now it jsut doesn't seem like Christmas time for me. I wish that it would snow just once down here... And not just a light dusting, a full out blizzard. But I guess I'll have to go back to ND for one of those... hehehe..... Nope, not a native Floridian.....

I used to watch sports, played baseball too, but its just not the same in todays world. Florida? I'm from that area just further down south. PM me I have an important question to ask you, :D

No, even though FSU is the first college I considered going to. But as far as FSU or the Gators, I'm neutral. Though my last post may have sounded like I was against the Gators, I was just playing around and trying to be humorous.

You're not. I don't watch or follow team sports. I am participating in an online Fantasy Football League (my team is the Miami Dolphins), but only because a friend invited me. I do watch martial arts matches (UFC, BoDog Fights, etc.), but not any team sports. I would rather watch tennis or ice skating than football, baseball or basketball; though, actually, I don't even watch much tennis or ice skating anymore. Of course, a lack of interest in team sports sure doesn't help your social status at work, when everyone else is discussing last night's game.

When my dad was alive, he would watch one football game on TV while at the same time listen to another game on the radio, via an earpiece. He loved football. He preferred professional games over college, and he mostly liked the Dolphins, but in general, he usually tended to root for the underdog. Unfortunately, other than the year the Dolphins went undefeated and won the SuperBowl (even I got heavily into it then), usually no one would watch the games with him, even though he would have loved it if someone would have shared in his enjoyment of football. He would always ask, "You wanna watch some FOOTBALL?!" and we would always say, "No, thanks." He would get so excited when football came on, but he was always disappointed when no one would watch it with him. My mom did for a while, but she really wasn't that much into it. When my brother-in-law came over and there was a game on, he would watch football with my dad, because he enjoyed it too, but unfortunately, the times he came over during football season weren't that often.

Not being a native to FL isn't an issue, but I don't think a blizzard here would be good.....just 'cause I've seen one. I'm not a fan of being snowed in. lol Guess I don't like the feeling of being trapped, but then again....it would get me out of work!! :)

Snow in Florida!. Two times I remember snow in Fl. [1] I believe it was 1979 and I was working construction in Ft Lauderdale and it started to snow. It did not stay on anything but it was snowing. [2] I moved near, Gainesville Fl in 86, I believe it was 89 it snowed like crazy and stayed in large patches on the ground for 3 days. Being from Miami all my life I could see change in the foliage in the winter in Miami. I have never seen a fall further north than Gainesville Fl, but would love to see the wonderful colors of the trees up north some day.

birdofthunder I think it’s funny that we have not seen these things like the beautiful fall colors. I have seen snow only 5 times in my life. The first time I was 23, and it was in Tennessee. It was pouring down snow and I was standing out in it making snow balls. People were looking out there windows thinking I was nuts. ;)

But it’s no funnier than someone coming from the Midwest and seeing the Ocean for the first time. I have been out on the beach and watch people who have never seen the ocean before.

“WOW! look how big it is”, “It’s salty”!, “Don’t get in it! there might be sharks”,. :D

I watch a family popping man-O-war {In the movie “Finding Nemo” they were racing through them) That had washed up on the beach. {They can give a nasty sting if one hits the tenancies) But any way, It’s fun seeing something for the first time.

Don’t they get power outages every year from blizzards? And when the power does go out don’t people freeze?

I like my odes here in Fl with Hurricanes, Lived with 5 hurricanes in 54 years, and when the power went out, didn’t have to worry about freezing. :p

Now earthquakes scar me. There is no warning, All of a sudden the ground starts moving under your feet. And not knowing is this is going to be a bad one or just a small one. Oy-vay, No thank you!

lol Power outages suck, period. Heat or cold!! Though, I am not a fan of them, especially at either end. Like I said, torah, I'd take the hurricanes over the earthquakes for exactly the reasons you stated. I'm not a fan of humidity either....
