Fine.

Now here is something to think about.

Many non-mormons view mormons in general as self-righteous and proud. Look at your post where you said mormons have a different morality. Do you see how that view could be drawn?

C'mon cheer up. No reason to be angry.

Concerning grace's point by point exposition of the mormon failures. Are you angry because grace has a point?

I am not angry. And she does have a point.

We all fall short.

We are to avoid stone-casting.

Yes, Wrigley, I can see that-in many cases. But, I feel that my statement is a true one, one that has been noted from personal experiance, and by the observations of many others, including news officials. But, yes, there is a streak of pride in this church, but hopefully most try to catch themselves.

Emerald Dragon and Wrigley,

There are some places that the Catholics could give the LDS a run for the money in strictness.
I am sure there are Protestants who really look long and hard at WWJD in every little nuance of life like R-rated movies.

More than likely Mel Gibson's movie "The Passion of Christ" will get an "R" rating. Will you go see it?

I shall not actually.
I do not anticipate I will be as torn by this delema as I was by the Matrix, but I work with the Young Men so these ideas are constantly before me. I hope to see an edited version of both some day.
R-rated movies will not cause any problems for a temple recommend by the way.

Of course the approval of the Pope could have pushed me towards the pursuit of an edited version sooner. "It is as it was." But the Pope did not say this.

For what reason would you have not to see the movie?

Obedience to God’s guidance through his prophets as I see it is reason enough. These teachings are before me more because of my calling, and it is really quite a small matter. But since it is a small matter I will obey as is expedient. If it were some questionable commandment I would certainly pray about it, but it is just not a big deal.

Do you not wish you could get the joy of serving the Lord by doing something so simple as not attending a movie with questionable content. I know that the reviewers are only human, but I do not care enough to worry about this.

Who says I can't get joy of serving God by seeing that movie?

The crucifiction was an ugly thing. The only shame we should feel is the knowledge that our transgression, our very sin, was the cause of that.

I do not fear the cross. I run to it. For on the cross Jesus died and paid for my sins. On that cross Jesus saved me. On that cross Jesus made me, someone unworthy, worthy.

On that cross Jesus gave me joy.

It's because of that joy I serve Him.

I'm reminded of what Paul wrote in 1 Corinthians

1 Corinthians 1
22Jews demand miraculous signs and Greeks look for wisdom, 23but we preach Christ crucified: a stumbling block to Jews and foolishness to Gentiles, 24but to those whom God has called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ the power of God and the wisdom of God.

Good post. I am not ashamed of the Cross either. Some times I contemplate all that I did/do that caused Christ to suffer. It is very sobering.

P.S. I do not believe in limited atonement.

I consider her commentary unfair, as we all 'fall short.'[/QUOTE]

I live in a part of the country where there are few Mormons. I really don't know any aside from the family of my soon to be DIL. But, when I mention the upcoming nuptials to people and the church, it's real common for someone to say, "I know someone who's Mormon, but they're not very good Mormons because they do such and such" I do agree this is unfair as I do believe that the "such and such" is being done by everyone else already. Mormons have no niche on the "such and such". So, why is it even necessary to mention "such and such" ? It is because Mormons have in their head that they are superior in their moral values. So, it's kind of like the US thinking we're superior in our Political/moral values and we try to impose them on the world. Everyone delights in throwing stones at the US. Apparently, people love to throw stones at the Mormons, too. This is something to illustrate my point: when I went to the Mormon Church as a visitor, my host (the soon-to-be DIL's mother) introduced me to people and told me in whispered tones afterward that they were a real fine family and they own their own business, etc. When I took a friend to my church recently I introduced them to my friends and didn't think to add that they were real fine folk. I think from this illustration you can see that the Mormons have a tendancy to set themselves up as stone receptacles.

Well, that settles it. To be sure, never in the history of Protestantism has one person complimented another Baptist with anything remotely similar to, "that is a fine family."

Naah, Perish the thought.

Seriously, you must be joking. I still get emails from old Baptist friends who keep describing Johnny Hunt (Minister of Woodstock Ga, Bapist Church) as "the godliest man I've ever met." Makes me wanna puke.

My ex-girlfriend's Mom is always describing one Baptist family member after another, according to the level of "Christianity" they exude.

"What a fine Christian" is a phrase heard only too often down here in the South. Though I don't think I've ever heard the phrase, "what a fine Mormon."

If there exists a problem with this attitude, I think it is the other way around.

But you don't know when Christians let their kids date, and I've seen Mormons wearing shorts. Are Mormon kids allowed to swim? What do they wear?

Nice post Wrigley.

The Passion is rated R for violence.......violence to Jesus, portrayed during His last 12 hours. Quite graphic in nature, having seen a preview.
