  • CF has always been a site that welcomes people from different backgrounds and beliefs to participate in discussion and even debate. That is the nature of its ministry. In view of recent events emotions are running very high. We need to remind people of some basic principles in debating on this site. We need to be civil when we express differences in opinion. No personal attacks. Avoid you, your statements. Don't characterize an entire political party with comparisons to Fascism or Communism or other extreme movements that committed atrocities. CF is not the place for broad brush or blanket statements about groups and political parties. Put the broad brushes and blankets away when you come to CF, better yet, put them in the incinerator. Debate had no place for them. We need to remember that people that commit acts of violence represent themselves or a small extreme faction.

Indeed. We should execute all felons. Let us turn our prisons into death camps and put a bullet in the head of every criminal! Let's take it further and allow deadly force against all levels of crime. Steal a keychain from Spencer's Gifts? Too bad.

That'll remedy our overloaded court systems! :D

That's right, we should kill them all and let God sort them out.

I would agree. I just think the same principle applies. Get the robber off premises as soon as you can.

Like I said, I don't have any problem with the man in this story reacting to what he perceived to be a very real threat. Still, I think a fatality could have been avoided.

I do agree with your conclusion, and I thank you for being so thoughtful and reasonable.

Oldwiseguy, here is a serious question.

Are there a lot of other americans who are as sick and disgusting as you? From what I have seen, you are a hypocrite, ignorant and also a racial supremacist asswipe.

You should try to acknowledge your radicalism problems and take care of it. No type of radicalism solves anything ever.

OT: So now it is a fight between american "christians" (Read: Right wingers using christianity as a cover) and people who do not think that it is hilarious when a criminal of a pathetic scale gets shot to death. This is why we can't have any nice things.

He threatened to kill the store employees and the customer. I'm guessing he said something like, "Do as I say and no one will get hurt", and brandished his weapon. Some people get offended by that and have instructions of their own like, "Drop the gun, and you won't get hurt." The robber maybe took offense at this upstart citizen and raised his gun to either shoot or threaten him. Big mistake.

I'm celebrating the fact that the good guy won and justice prevailed, not the robbers death. I would be just as happy if he got shot in the leg.

Pure assertion, there's nothing of the sort written in the article.

Based on the actions of the second suspect (bolting the second he heard gunfire), he wasn't interested in shooting anyone, or he would have fired back. He was just simply there to rob the store, and it's likely nobody would have been hurt.

That doesn't make the robbery a good thing, but again, the punishment should be a few years behind bars, not death.

I said that those Christians who disagree with the following statement aren't knowledgable concerning this event and the resurrection. Sorry that you weren't able to understand what I plainly said. :sorry:

If you had plainly said it then you would have said...

"those Christians who disagree with the following statement aren't knowledgable concerning this event and the resurrection."

However, plainly, you did not say that at all. What you did say, and I very literally quote, was...

Every knowledgable Christian (those who disagree with me aren't) believes in the resurrection.

See how they're different? I can't help notice that otherwise you're insisting that you are the knowledgable Christian, while advocating pre-trial executions for petty crimes.

I think it's obvious that I wouldn't impune anothers Christianity, therefore it had to their knowledge of the fact that the dead man would come up again. I said this because there are some Christians who take issue with killing someone in self-defense and need to be reminded that we all die, but do come up later in the general resurrection.

The athiest believes, like Clint Eastwood's character in "Unforgiven", that when you kill someone you take "everything he has and everything he's ever going to have." Knowledgable Christians know better.

That's true.... however my opinion is based on what's written in the article whereas yours is based on stuff you made up in your head.

So your opinion is based on a very limited and preliminary news report. I'm constructing a reasonable scenario of the entire event based on what likely happened. Crooks carry guns to protect themselves, not just to threaten or shoot their victims.

The sad bottom line in all this is that you athiests are sympathizing with an armed criminal who was killed while threatening the lives of three innocent people, disregarding the plain fact that he knew the risks to himself in this misadventure.

In this case "the right people got shot" (Dirty Harry quote) and you people are having a fit over it.

Also if you had read other reports about this incident you'll discover that the very reason this man was 'carrying' at the time was because he had to stop at a convenience store late in the evening (the shooting occured about 9:30 PM). He obviouly considered an event like this a possibility, remote as it might be.

This was Jackonville, FL, a high-crime city, not Canada.

I think, what we're getting at, is that you seem to be rejoicing in the fact that the robber got shot and we don't agree that this is a good thing. Probably, had the armed citizen not pulled his gun and killed the robber, no one would've gotten hurt and the crooks would've just made out with the money. In one scenario, someone dies. In the other, no one dies. I would prefer a scenario like the latter, and it seems, at least from the way you're posting, that you would prefer the scenario where someone dies.

No, seriously, When you took examples of the "Robbery as an excuse to murder", you originally spoke exclusively about black men. Also, your opinions are truly disturbing.

+You are not a messenger, you are an attention thirsty person who wants to find some other people with as radical thoughts.

And the 'applause' isn't for the death of the robber, it's for the justice of the whole event.

You assume that killing a robber equates to justice. You're wrong. IMO, at least.

What liberals and athiests don't understand is that if you don't 'take out' the (human) trash...every knowledgable Christian (those who disagree with me aren't) believes in the resurrection.

Every knowledgeable Christian knows that there's no such thing as human trash - rather, that every person was made by God, in God's image, and that God died for every person on the cross because he loves every person equally. He doesn't regard people as trash, regardless of whether they've robbed a grocery store or not, and neither should we.

David.

Well, that's okay - they're just exercising their second amendment rights.

Crooks don't enjoy those rights, and they carry to threaten, kill, and, protect themselves from the police or other crooks.

Do you know the difference between 'justice' and 'mercy'? You are convicting me of having no mercy because I"m applauding justice. Apple and oranges in this case.

God has overseen the death of millions of his 'loved' ones, i.e. the holocaust. Don't confuse agape with phileo. Knowledgable Christians don't. Jesus didn't abrogate the curses his Father laid on certain peoples. Jesus also warned of Gehenna fire, where the 'trash' was burned.

You can only tear out so many pages of the bible before all you have left is a nice leather cover flapping in the breeze. :preach:

I'm not convicting you of anything. Just pointing out that you're wrong.

God has overseen the death of millions of his 'loved' ones, i.e. the holocaust.

Are you suggesting that God wanted the holocaust to happen? I really hope not.

Jesus also warned of Gehenna fire, where the 'trash' was burned.

Jesus didn't call people trash. Jesus died for the people you consider to be trash.

You can only tear out so many pages of the bible before all you have left is a nice leather cover flapping in the breeze. :preach:

Yes, you want to be careful there.
