Great, a guy died knocking off a dollar store.... lets celebrate.

It's incredible you could possibly celebrate the death of anyone... Sure, the robber shouldn't have been doing what he was doing, however the suitable punishment for his crime was a couple years behind bars, not death.

He threatened to kill the store employees and the customer. I'm guessing he said something like, "Do as I say and no one will get hurt", and brandished his weapon. Some people get offended by that and have instructions of their own like, "Drop the gun, and you won't get hurt." The robber maybe took offense at this upstart citizen and raised his gun to either shoot or threaten him. Big mistake.

I'm celebrating the fact that the good guy won and justice prevailed, not the robbers death. I would be just as happy if he got shot in the leg.

If this fellow had been in that theatre he would have returned fire as best he could. The killer would have had to focus on him which would allow others to escape. The killer wouldn't have any better visibility either and probably would have sought cover as well. It wouldn't have taken long for our guy to see that the shooter was wearing body armor and would have directed fire at his head. Based on his experience he would have had some chance of taking the shooter out.

It is pretty obvious that you are using christianity as a cover for your exterior motives of selfishness and wanton violence. Also, have you ever heard how the robbers usually say something such as "I want your money, not your life, but if you move I won't think twice". Robbers are not there for death and decay. They are there to get the money and escape. Also, what happened to the "Talk before you shoot their body full of bullets" style? I am pretty sure that the robbers were some 16-18 year old brats who didn't even have a handgun. Oooh, a knife is so threatening if you are on the other side of the room with a fully loaded and functional handgun. I think that the robbers were more scared.

By all means, avoid my argument based on your incorrect premise that in all active shooter situations, the police will always arrive after everything is over. Avoid the fact that after the Columbine High School shootings, police were trained to actively pursue and neutralize an active shooter as first responders. Avoid the fact that at Virginia Tech, this tactic saved many lives. Avoid the fact that in any active shooter situation, multiple shooters will inevitably confuse police and cause more chaos, possibly even more loss of life. That sort of intellectual dishonesty must make it really easy to not have to challenge your beliefs.

If it were only a matter of money or other property, using deadly force might be inappropriate; it's the threat to innocent life that brings deadly force into the defense.

And if you think a criminal holding a knife across the room is no threat, you don't know much about weapons or fighting.

Don't count on appealing to a criminal's better nature; he may not have one.

Wasn't there a shooting pretty recently where, er, the cops didn't arrive after it was over and may have hit some civilians trying to take the guy down?

According the sheriff's report there were two men armed with handguns.
