I know a few retired ppl, if they not christian they just spend all their kids inheritance on overseas trips. One husband I knew the mintute he retired he just sold up, and bought a campervan, dragged his wife all over the country and i lost count of how many trips they done now. Plus overseas trips.

Poor wife is a believer and has to go along with him. He did spend all his life making money. But then she married him so...anyway. She became a christian after birth of first child and he just refused. Although he did grow up in church.

well, I don't know where you from but americans are quite parochial and self-sufficient so they not really too concerned with what other countries do.

But I wasn't talking about americans I was meaning retired babyboomers, I think they must have more time to pray, seeing they retired. But then they had been serving the world system all their working lives so probably indoctrinated by it. eg get a mortgage and die slaving paying it off.

In the money course I did it was basically teaching the world system and how all the banks worked etc, and this fear it puts into people regarding their retirement.

I'm glad I don't choose to follow what everyone else does, because if you not careful you just end up bankrupt. ie. living on credit, spending what you don't have, always acquiring more and more. Or saving and hoarding but you just don't know when you will die.

I was thinking that a lot of christians I know want to argue that money is just a tool, and nothing to do with Satan whatsoever, but, it just causes so much trouble that Paul was really right when he was telling Timothy that the love of money is the root of all evil, because so many choose it over faith. And then many many churches have gone the prosperity gospel route.

yes, I always wondered why in some churches every single week they just ask you for money.

I mean really.
And you sitting there, maybe broken, needing healing and some preacher just asks YOU for money.

I was once asked by this evangelist for money to spread the gospel. I said I won't pay, but I can pray.
Then I said..go read Corrie Ten Boom's book. She spread the gospel and never once asked for a cent.

Sorry I don't mean to make this a complaining thread just pointing out some experiences with professed christians I couldn't fellowship with. One group sends me letters nearly every month asking for money to pay for this minister I don't even know.

If you just after me for money sorry I don't have any. Jesus said to his disciples not to carry any. And his greatest miracle happened precisely because the disciples didn't have any money to buy bread.

Excerpt from a commentary I heard the other day - To sum up the first part he quotes Hebrews 3:1 and talks about priestliness among God's people, or lack thereof.

The eighth chapter of the book of Leviticus describes the consecration of the priests. As you read it, it has a strange and antique ring to it. It's so altogether remote from anything that can be considered modern, that the first temptation is to hurriedly read it by as something that is rightfully buried in antiquity, and has no claim upon our attention. But I want to say that that attitude is completely wrong. Everything that is in this chapter is profoundly relevant for this age. I could almost say more so now, than in the biblical generation in which it was given.
The whole thing beggars the mind. The whole thing is counter to the flesh.
You come to a certain sense of exhaustion just in the reading of the description. What would it have meant then to actually have been a participant?
Its patently absurd, its altogether exhausting, and when the blood and gore is finished, and these blood-splattered men are waiting at the door at the tent of meeting, its hard to consider that there's anything honorific or appealing about the role of priesthood for man. I think most of us have rather glamorous notions of priesthood. We see ourselves in some kind of lofty image. But I'll tell you that the real image is the one that's described here. These men were so spent, so exhausted, by the requirements of God, who are so doused in blood and gore, and oil, that you can't tell where the sacrifice ends and where the priest begins. They have somehow all become one and truly they are a living sacrifice. And I'll tell you if there's anything left after the length and the demands of this requirement for consecration, God in His wisdom gave one last stipulation, "let them wait 7 days at the door of the tent of the meeting."

Alright my friends, I'm gone... soon. 7 days, actually. I'm personally not a fan of these goodbyes, I think they're over done and a little dramatic... yet here I am. Part of me wishes I had some words of wisdom that could flow through each of your screens and have an impact on you, but I don't. I'll pray His will be done in your lives, whether you like it or not. :)
To my brothers and sisters, who I look forward to meeting, I hope you seek Him for who He truly is, with all your might and trust nothing but Christ. Be so cautious of distractions. We're only here for such a short time.
This is true. It's very easy to lose sight of how temporal this life is and to focus on all the wrong things. Sometimes a break from forums and online sites is a healthy thing. I took a long break not long ago and it really helped me. Wish you the best :)
