I pray to Jesus everyday and ask Him to fill me with the Holy Spirit but most of the time I feel like I'm putting up a front and I'm truly this monster inside. I'm sick of feeling this way but won't commit suicide from a fear of eternal suffering.
Without question, you are crying out from deep within your soul. I am sure you already know that walking with Jesus can become difficult at times, and yet I am confident that you have experienced His love, joy, and peace as well. Jesus said, “Come to Me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. Take My yoke upon you and learn from Me; for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For My yoke is easy and My burden is light” (Matthew 11:28-30). The great thing is that you are never alone once you have a personal relationship with the Lord.
You may remember when Nicodemus came to visit Jesus. He said to Jesus, “Rabbi, we know that You are a teacher who has come from God. For no one could perform the signs You are doing if God were not with him.” Jesus replied, “Truly, truly, I tell you, no one can see the kingdom of God unless he is born again.” “How can a man be born when he is old?” Nicodemus asked. “Can he enter his mother’s womb a second time to be born?” Jesus answered, “Truly, truly, I tell you, no one can enter the kingdom of God unless he is born of water and the Spirit. Flesh is born of flesh, but spirit is born of the Spirit. Do not be amazed that I said, ‘You must be born again.’ The wind blows where it wishes. You hear its sound, but you do not know where it comes from or where it is going. So it is with everyone born of the Spirit” (John 3:2-6).
You see, before Nicodemus could finish his thought Jesus immediately began to share spiritual matters instead of having an intellectual conversation about how it was that He could perform miracles. Jesus got straight to the point stating, “You must be born again to see the kingdom of God!” The kingdom of God is not some far off place; it is a spiritual realm all around us, everywhere. Yet, it is completely invisible to everyone who has not been spiritually reborn, born again. However, once one does become born again the Spirit of God comes to indwell that person forevermore. The Holy Spirit is there to love, comfort, guide, teach, and so much more.
Just as with Nicodemus, the religious people of today cannot understand or see the true kingdom of God for they have not been spiritually reborn. “How can this be?” Nicodemus asked. “You are Israel’s teacher,” said Jesus, “and you do not understand these things? Truly, truly, I tell you, we speak of what we know, and we testify to what we have seen, and yet you people do not accept our testimony. If I have told you about earthly things and you do not believe, how will you believe if I tell you about heavenly things? No one has ascended into heaven except the One who descended from heaven—the Son of Man. Just as Moses lifted up the snake in the wilderness, so the Son of Man must be lifted up, that everyone who believes in Him may have eternal life” (John 3:7-15).
Hence, once you become born again you will understand the kingdom of God and experience a new life in Christ. Not a life to be understood by others who have not been spiritually reborn, but instead only understood by those who have the Holy Spirit living within them to give them this understanding.
I am praying for you and already know that the Lord is seeking a deep relationship with you. God bless you, Steve.
