Here in the southern Philippines you can find a giant bat called the Golden Crown Flying Fox. They are considered to be the world's largest bat with a wing-span of 5 to 6 feet. Below are a couple of pictures I took of some of these bats on a recent trip to Sta. Cruz Island which is located just off the coast of Zamboanga City. It's hard to judge their size from these pictures, but they are quite large.

So, I love animals. Especially obscure, neat, weird-looking, cute animals. What are your favorite obscure animals?

A few....
...

Degu (little mousey fluff balls!)

Is a Degu related to a gerbil? It looks like it to me. I used to have those as a kid.

Another one: Baby stingrays! (Not obscure, just really odd.)

They're not much to look at from the top, where they look just like smaller versions of the adults, but wait til they flip so that you can see their underbellies...

It's like a stingray mixed with a ravioli, mixed with...I don't know...a tiny baby? It's weird! Kinda cute, though.

(Cuter than the goblin shark...egad! Remind me to never go in the water ever again.)

The pictures below are not mine, I found them on google images, but another interesting animal found in the Philippines is the Tarsier. They are mainly north of where I live, so I haven't had the opportunity to see one yet.
